FRACTIONSWEBQUEST
Mrs. Zomer
2010-2011
INTRODUCTIONS HUNGRY???
Your job over the next few days is to become familiar with adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions so you can become the "master chef" of fractions. By the end of the week you will develop the mathematical skills needed to be able to increase or decrease any recipe that fits your feeding frenzy.
So put your chef's hats on and Follow the Web Quest guide below for each day's activities. I will begin each day with a lesson so you will gain a taste, and then you will sample fractions on your own. Let's get cooking!
ADDING AND SUBTRACTING Let’s Review!
NOW YOU TRY Now that you remember how to add and
subtract fractions, let’s try.
Attached is a recipe for a fall fruit snack mix for an appetizer. Your assignment is to double the recipe. On a separate sheet of paper label the paper FALL FRUIT SNACK and write out the amounts of each item you will need if you were to double the
Recipe (HINT: add each fraction) (Click here)
MULTIPLICATION Now let’s review again how to multiply
Fractions.
NOW FOR THE MAIN COURSE Now you are going to prepare this main
course for 3 times the amount of people it is intended for. On a separate sheet of paper from your appetizer label this Hamburger Casserole. Then write the amount of each item you will need to triple this recipe. (HINT: Multiply each fraction by 3!)
DIVISION REVIEW Finally, we will review how to divide
fractions.
Don’t forget your three magic words!!!
WE SAVED THE BEST FOR LASTDESSERT! Now for the best part of a meal,
Dessert! On a separate sheet of paper label
Caramel Apples. Write the amount of each item you will need to cut the recipe in half. (HINT: Divide each amount by 2)

FINALLY Now that you have made your 3-course
meal you are done!
Turn in all 3 recipe’s with the work shown!
This is Due NO LATER THAN Wednesday November 3, 2010.
