Title: Creating an Art Critique

Grade: 5th grade

Subject: Elementary Art

Standards:

ART.VA.II.5.3: Explore and understand prospective subject matter, ideas, and symbols for works of art.

Objective: Students will be able to write a critique on a work of art. The critique will describe the subject matter, elements of art and how they are used, and any relationships to everyday life.

Materials: Smart phones or tablets, paper, pencils, art work images, worksheet, pictures of art work.

Lesson: Students will download a QR scanner Students will go on a scavenger hunt to find pictures of different works of art and answer questions on that particular art work that will enable them to write a critique. Students will work in groups of 3 to 4 with one device per group. After the scavenger hunt, each group will use the information they wrote during the scavenger hunt to write a critique on one of the art works that they will share with the class the following week.

Assessment: Each group turns in a written critique and group presentation.
