Title: Creating an Art Critique
Grade: 5th grade
Subject: Elementary Art
Standards:
ART.VA.II.5.3: Explore and understand prospective subject matter, ideas, and symbols for works of art.
ART.VA.V.5.4: Explain how visual arts have inherent relationships to everyday life.
Objective: Students will be able to write a critique on a work of art. The critique will describe the subject matter, elements of art and how they are used, and any relationships to everyday life.
Materials: Smart phones or tablets, paper, pencils, art work images, worksheet, pictures of art work.
Lesson: Students will download a QR scanner Students will go on a scavenger hunt to find pictures of different works of art and answer questions on that particular art work that will enable them to write a critique. Students will work in groups of 3 to 4 with one device per group. After the scavenger hunt, each group will use the information they wrote during the scavenger hunt to write a critique on one of the art works that they will share with the class the following week.
Assessment: Each group turns in a written critique and group presentation.
To begin the assignment scan the first QR code below, then find the images which are located throughout the school and scan the QR code next to them to get the questions. Write the answer on your worksheet. Make sure to write the answer with the corresponding number for each picture.
