Morning Star Christian Academy
Morning Star Christian Academy is a multi-racial
coeducational Academy that started in January
2008 in response to a demand from Christian parents
within Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, who had been home
schooling their children and needed a more formal institute of learning. The Academy is a trust school and is governed by a board of trustees. It is
situated on the property of Selborne Park Christian
Church and teaches all the tenants of the Christian faith
as an integral part of its curriculum.
We believe our children's training and instruction is primarily
the responsibility of each PARENT - this is with the understanding
that few of us are in a position or able to be involved in the
academic education of our kids on a full-time basis. Our
children are being taught from a biblical world view using the
Accelerated Christian Education school curriculum (ACE) in
order for them to grow in wisdom, knowledge, and maturity
and helping them learn to think critically and biblically about
the world around them.
·To reach children for Christ, one child at a time.
·To teach children to obey God and their parents and to understand Biblical principals.
·To educate our children in the love and fear of the Lord, with the Bible as their
foundation as ambassadors for Christ.
·To educate our children as future leaders in all spheres of life.
·To help you prepare your children for the world and give them the academic and spiritual
tools necessary to glorify God through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ!

Our Curriculum
Our curriculum choices are the A.C.E Accelerated Christian Education) material from the
School of Tomorrow publishers in the United States and ZimSec/Cambridge.
All A.C.E. schools within Zimbabwe have to be registered with both the Christian
Education Trust (which holds the franchise for all A.C.E. schools within Zimbabwe) and
with the Ministry of Education. Our final approval from the Ministry is still pending. From
its beginning, Accelerated Christian Education has maintained high Biblical and
academic standards and remained committed to setting children on a path for
success. The goal is the same today - to prepare children for the world and give them
the academic and spiritual tools necessary to glorify God!

How does the A.C.E system work?
The Accelerated Christian Education curriculum is based on a series of workbooks called
PACEs, which stands for Packets of Accelerated Christian Education.
- Each subject has 12 PACEs per grade level.
- The basic subjects of ACE are Math, English, Science, Social Studies, and Word Building
(spelling and word usage).
- Test Keys are published for corresponding PACEs. When a student enters the ACE system,
their academic ability is assessed, and any learning gaps are addressed.
- A PACE is stated to be equivalent to three weeks of work.
- Students set goals of how much work they will do in each subject each day, putting the responsibility for their progress on the student.
- As the student works individually through the PACE, they do a series of reviews, and at the end sit a preparatory test.
- They then sit a PACE test.
- The pass score for a PACE test is 80%, however, if a passing score is not achieved then the
student must retake the PACE until they pass.
- ZimSec/Cambridge lessons are held daily.

The A.C.E. model allows your child to progress independently through the curriculum and
not as a group. The "Public School Model" holds back the faster learner and forces all the
students forward regardless of their "learning gaps". Over a million graduates demonstrate
that Individualized learning produces academic excellence.
Diagnostic:
The child is given a diagnostic test to determine current academic ability and clearly
identifies any learning gaps within all subjects. For example, your child's English grammar
may be above his/her grade level. However their punctuation skills may be below grade
level. Your child is then placed in curriculum at his/her academic performance grade level in
each subject and the learning gaps are then addressed to meet a student's specific learning
needs and capabilities.
The students learn through setting daily goals and are challenged by marking their
achievement. This key to learning allows the child to visualize and plan daily
progress. This unique discipline of A.C.E. places responsibility and accountability
on the student for learning, thus establishing a lifetime appreciation for goal setting
and achievement.
Goal Setting:
The Biblical value of "excellence in all things we do" is translated into mastering subject
content. The A.C.E. model reinforces honest achievement that results in advancement.
Students must master a minimum of 80% of the material before advancing and therefore
ensuring a solid, back-to-basics education for your child.

Future Plans:
Like any new and developing Academy the construction of classrooms and other
facilities is of prime importance. The Board and parents of Morning Star Christian
Academy are currently in the process of constructing a new block of three classrooms and
a multi purpose facility that will hold both a computer laboratory, student's library and
kitchenette with tuck shop.

The Academy accommodates students from grade 0 to “A” level or Level 3 by A.C.E.
standards. Our students are individually registered with the International Certificate of
Christian Education (ICCE). This examining board moderates the academic
performance of each child and issues the appropriate level of certificate. All students
are also prepared to sit the S.A.T. ( Scholastic Achievement Test) which is required as
an entrance to test to American Universities and Colleges. We do provide lessons for those who want to sit Cambridge Exams (selected subjects only).
Grades and Examinations:
All A.C.E schools compete annually at both national international levels. ACE holds a
national convention every year, an All Africa Students Convention and a Worldwide
Convention. Convention :- a week long event, students from 13years to 18 years compete
in events ranging from computers, photography, academics, sports, platform, and others.
Nominations in any category award students an automatic place to the next convention
within that year. We have had the privilege of winning the Gold Medal in the inter school
academics competition within Zimbabwe for 2008 – 2014. Students who excel at the All
Africa Students Convention receive a nomination to compete at the International Students
Convention in the United States. Here students gather from 100 countries around the World.
Our students were able to attend in both 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013. In 2009 we won the
silver for the Bible Knowledge competition and in 2011 the Silver for the 4 by 100 meter
senior boys relay along with other medals that individual students won.
Sports and Extra Curicular Activities :
During 2010 and 2011 we had our first class of seniors graduate. All these students have
chosen to pursue a degree program in countries as varied as South Africa, Mauritius,
Australia and the United States.

The A.C.E Curriculum is built upon five basic laws of learning:
- Students must be at a level where they can perform.
- Reasonable goals must be set.
- Students must be controlled and motivated.
- Learning must be measurable
- Learning must be rewarded.
Each learner therefore discovers how to:
- Set goals and meet deadlines.
- Develop critical-thinking skills.
- Think creatively and independently.
Based on these principles, the Accelerated Christian Education curriculum
assures parents of a course that is:
Individualized:
The A.C.E. model adapts to the learning speed of your child. Unlike the
"Public School Model" where the group is lock-stepped regardless of the student's
academic abilities.
