Over specialising – keep options open

Thinking a subject is hard/easy – subjects we find easiest are subjects we enjoy!

Not enough research into the subject and choosing one at the last minute Please go to https://careers portal.ie/school/subject_explorer.php and research each subject thoroughly.

All colleges have their own websites

• Remember that the Leaving Certificate requires a great amount of hard work over two years. It is much easier to work hard if you have chosen, in so far as is possible, subjects you like.

• The Leaving Certificate also requires a sense of purpose. It is easier to be motivated if you have a clear goal in sight e.g. to be accepted for a particular course, apprenticeship or to get a good job, etc.

• A good level of education can only improve your chances. Use your ability to its fullest.

Ability is what you're

capable of doing.

Motivation determineswhat you do.

Attitude determineshow well you do it.
