Students will actively engage in a variety of in-classlearning tasks that have been designed to improve theirthinking, reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.Classwork assignments are due at the end of the classperiod, unless otherwise stated. Late assignments willautomaticallylose10%(perday)ormaynotbesubmittedat all. A zero will be entered in PowerSchool until theassignmentissubmittedandgraded.
Homework(HW)¨ 15-20points
Homeworkassignmentswillbegiventhroughouttheweek.Allhomeworkisduethenextdayatthebeginningofclass,unless otherwise stated. Late assignments willautomatically lose 10% (per day)—if students aretardy(unexcused)orabsent(unexcused)theirworkisconsidered late.A zerowill go in PowerSchool until theassignmentissubmittedandgraded.
FormativeAssessments(FA)¨ 25-50points
Formative assessments (FAs) include quizzes, Exit Slips,oral presentations, timed writing, and other assignmentsthatassessstudents’ levelofmasteryofcontentandskillsonaday-to-daybasis.NOTE: Missed FA’s due to EXCUSED absences must bemade up within TWO days of the original assessmentdate—if not, the student receives a zero. Students whomiss a FA due to an unexcused absence or tardy forfeit10%oftheirgrade,andinsomecasestheywontbeabletomakeitupatall. IfallowedtomakeuptheFA,azerowillgoinPowerSchooluntiltheFAissubmittedandgraded.
SummativeAssessments(SA)¨ 100-300points
Summative assessments are major exams that assessstudents’ level of mastery of content and skills taughtduring a particular unit.
