Writing: 1st grade will continue working on writings that focus on opinions.

- Students will read plant and animal stories and create their own opinions about them.

- Students will also go back to informational writings and compare and contrast both types of writings.

Phonics Phonics: We will continue focusing on short and long vowels.

Reading: 1st grade will continue focusing on reading books that state opinions. We will also read stories about plants and ANIMALS.

- We will be going over what a text with opinions looks like and how we can identify opinions in a book.

- We will look at the differences in non-fiction books (books with facts) and books with opinions in them.

Math: 1st grade will continue working on Unit 6. - We will study and compose two and three

dimensional figures

- We will identify basic figures within two and

three dimensional figures

- We will compare, contrast, and/or classify

geometric shapes using position, shape, size,

number of sides, and number of angles.

Science: We will be learning about plants and

animals.

- Students will investigate the characteristics and basic needs of plants and animals.

- Identify the parts of a plant—root, stem, leaf, and flower.

- Compare and describe various animals—appearance, motion, growth, basic needs.
