About School

Bunts Sangha’s S M Shetty High School & Junior College is managed by the Powai

Education Committee on behalf of Bunts Sangha, Mumbai. Bunts Sangha Mumbai is a

registered body of 91 years old, founded in 1927. It is a very well-known and a premier

organization of Bunts and it represents the aims and aspirations of about 10 lakhs of Bunts

living in Mumbai and its suburbs. Bunts Sangha is dedicated to social, economic, educational

and cultural enrichment of people of Mumbai.

The purpose of establishing Bunts Sangha’s S M Shetty High School & Junior College was to

fulfill the desire to give something in return to the city of Mumbai which has provided

opportunities to our people to prosper in their chosen field and profession in Maharashtra.

The Sangha also took a deliberate decision to go in for State Board (S.S.C) so that it benefits

the people of Maharashtra.

The foundation stone of the school was laid in 1998 on a prime piece of land measuring 2

acres, allotted by the Government of Maharashtra through MHADA. Today, after 20 years of

inception, we are one of the finest schools in Mumbai offering a diverse choice of

curriculum. The school is a co-education institution with English as the medium of

emphasis is given to academic and non- academic subjects in order to bring overall

development of the child. Every child is given an opportunity to develop his /her talents and

blossom into full fledged citizen of the society. Our school is committed to imparting

education to students, which will ensure their all - round development into responsible

and confident individuals. We strive to provide the best possible learning environment and

facilities to enable them to achieve their full potential in academics, sports and other co-

curricular pursuits. We stress on inculcating moral and human values in order that they grow

into committed citizens, aware of their individual and social responsibilities. We provide a

fulfilling work environment to the teachers which enable them to contribute their fullest in

established a Quality Management System in line with ISO 9001 : 2015 And through its

effective implementation, we strive to continually improve all our processes to meet the

changing needs of both children and parents .

Awareness of the social, economic and cultural realities of our country

The first and foremost factor or the secret to Bunts Sangha’s S M Shetty High School &

Jr. College’s performance is that we think positively about the people we lead. One of

our key social optics is RESPECT IN EDUCATION. This social optic is visibly showcased

through the lens of being respectful to everyone, having empathy for all, being socially

conscious, passionate, orienting ourselves and others towards excellence and the most

important of all, i.e. acclimatizing all towards being competent and transparent in education.

Our competent and committed staff is provided with the climate to engage the hearts,

minds, and hands of talent i.e. the DNA of our institution, our students to be the most

sustainable source of competitive advantage. A wide platform is given to each person in our

institution to tap their inherent potential and shine in their respective realms. Need based

The school’s curriculum and pedagogical practices in terms of curricular and co-curricular

activities include socio-cultural diversities of the country. Culturally responsive pedagogy

facilitates and supports the achievement of all students. In our culturally responsive

classrooms, effective teaching and learning occur in a culturally supported, learner-centred

context, whereby the strengths, students bring to school are identified, nurtured, and utilized

to promote students’ achievement. We engage in reflective thinking and writing.

We acknowledge membership in different groups imbibing students in our institution from all

walks of life.

We create an inclusive environment where our students learn about the history and

experiences of diverse groups

A sound platform to enhance and showcase their talents in Intra School as well as Inter

School activities is given to our students.

Activities are based on promoting socio – cultural diversities for e.g. Celebrating different

religious festivals, value weeks, class assembly participating in cultural and competitive

programmes and events held by different organizations.

Skill based learning & inculcate leadership qualities

The school encourage and motivate students to follow their passion (which may or may not

lie inside the academic sphere) & provides skill based learning programs to inculcate

volunteering and leadership qualities among students.

Our curricular as well as co – curricular activities are a wellspring for students to tap their

inherent talents and potential. Dance and Drama, Art of Living sessions, Music etc. form an

intrinsic part of our curriculum. Along with this, our students are given wings to soar high in

the Inter school activities conducted at the ward level, Gandhi Smarak Competitions, Sports {

DSO, MSSA, interschool}etc.

External Exams boost their confidence in the academic sphere. Clubs such as the language

clubs, Science club, Nature clubs etc. help the students polish their skills in various

dimensions. Our Students Council is a testimony of the leadership qualities present in our

students.

Contribute to the society

Exhibition and Sale of Handcrafted Articles, Green Sole Collaboration etc.

has partnered with the local municipal corporation (BMC) School.

Road map with respect to volunteering in social impacts :

Our school climate is one factor that is related to our academic achievement and school

discipline. We make an effort to gauge and understand about students’ perceptions of the

factors that can promote equity in school climate as well as in the other social environs. Our

united efforts including the hand in hand aid given by the Counselling Centre, our holistic

curriculum help us combat challenges by inculcating reform efforts, that are the key factors

Page 10: Ms. Seema Sabhlok Bunts Sangha’s S M Shetty High School & …ncsl.niepa.ac.in/document/case-study/POWAI,MUMBAI.pdf · 2020. 4. 6. · Ms. Seema Sabhlok Bunts Sangha’s S M Shetty

influencing positive school climate for one and all. Our students generously donate

newspapers every Thursday and the amount collected is used for some noble cause. Doing

our bit for the society is such simpler ways sensitize our students to work for a bigger cause.

Coin for our country is yet another noble initiative which our students are wholeheartedly

participating in, with full zest. The roadmap to volunteer in social impacts is thus well laid

out.
