IDC forecasts that the market for online backup is emerging and will grow fourfold by 2011. Consumers and small businesses are interested in new methods of protecting their data. Online Backup enables service providers to offer reliable backup services to consumers and SMB customers. The BackupAgent solution provides easy backup and restore of data from any device, being a PC, laptop or server, over the internet to a secured remote datacenter location.

Technology

BackupAgent is a very scalable and flexible software solution for hosting online backup services. The BackupAgent Server Software is based on Web Services and the .Net Framework. It runs on a Windows Server 2008 installation and uses an integrated SQL Server 2008 Enterprise Edition database to store user information. A service provider can host up to 1000 users on a single server, due to the fact that BackupAgent optimizes the performance power of ASP.Net. In case more storage is needed the SAN can be expanded or new storage locations can be added to store data for new users. The SQL Server 2008 can run on the Web Server, but can also be outscaled to an existing SQL Server 2008 cluster.

Integrated with Microsoft Hosting Platform

Tested and supported by BackupAgent, the solution is fully integrated with Microsoft’s Hosted Messaging and Collaboration platform and Active Directory. Service providers can connect BackupAgent Server Software to an existing Windows Active Directory and start provisioning backup service plans. Additionally, service providers can allow companies or resellers to manage a subset of users in the BackupAgent platform and rebrand online backup services. With this feature service providers can earn back your investment in an HMC-platform or other provisioning system by dramatically shortening the time-to-market for your online backup service.
