WHOOO NEWS The Scoop: What we are learning this week… Important Notes: May 26, 2014 Weekly Homework Please make sure that all homework is completed in pencil Please send in your boxtops as you collect them! There is no school next Monday, May 26 th for Memorial Day. We will follow a Monday schedule that Friday, May 30 th . Field Day is scheduled for Friday, June 6 th . The rain make-up day is the following Monday, June 9 th . More information will be coming home soon. Send your child with a healthy snack every day. Please remember that only water is allowed (no juice). June 4 th is our End of the Year Party and Writing Portfolio day. Our celebration begins at 9:30. Hawaii Day will be in the afternoon. Email [email protected] in order to let the front office know if your child is going to be absent. Ms. Wolfe’s Monday Memo May, 2014 In Literacy: This week in literacy we will finish up our fairy tale unit! We will read some more fractured fairy tales including Cindy Ellen, Princess Pigtoria and the Pea, and Prince Cinders. We will also read the poem, Three Little Pigs, and talk about the figures of speech used and find words with double vowels. In writing, students will continue to work on finalizing their Small Moments piece that they picked to be published. After writing it again in their best handwriting, students will illustrate their story and create a cover. Reading Log: Please read at least 15 minutes every night. (Part of this time should be used on your child’s sight word ring.) Make sure your child records their reading on their reading log. This will be checked at the end of the month. Recommended Reading: Little Red Cowboy Hat Prince Cinders Princess Pigtoria and the Pea Cinder Elly In Math: This week we will finish our unit on money. Students will continue to practice identifying different coins and counting a collection of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. We will play several different games, such as Coin Concentration, Coin Go Fish, and Fill the Bank, to review. In addition, students will select several coins and see if their partner can count the amount. At the end of the week students will take their money assessment. Please continue to practice at home! and the many unusual types of island vegetation they might see. We will read A is for Aloha by U'ilani Goldsberry and make a Hawaiian animal mobile. Word Study: Please have your child complete their word study homework each night. This week’s homework is 4 th quarter sight word review. Math Workbook: Complete pages 107 and 108 in the math workbook. Rip out the pages and make sure your child’s name is on it. Students should also complete the subtraction sheet sent home in their Monday folder. Turn both of these in on Friday. In Content: This week students will continue to visit Hawaii! We will discuss the geography, the animals, and the people there. Students will learn about the different islands, the customs of the native people (leis, hulas, luaus),
