MSc Environmental & Energy Engineering Graduate story I am Shiny Alex from Chennai, India. I did my MSc in Environmental and Energy Engineering in 2013. I completed my under graduate degree in Civil Engineering in India. Inially when I looked for doing my masters I found that University of Sheffield offered MSc (Eng) Environmental and Energy Engineering. This course uniquely com- bines both environmental and energy modules which is really inter- esng and challenging. I chose University of Sheffield because first of all I liked the course they offered. All the modules covered in the course were clearly given in the university website. The university had a good reputaon and is well known for its heritage. I had friends of friends who studied in this university. They told me about the student life in University of Sheffield and the friendly nature of people of Sheffield, which really aracted me. These are the main reasons which made me choose University of Sheffield. I came to Sheffield with five of my friends. In the beginning I found it difficult to find the ways to university but when I went to the stu- dents union I got a warm welcome from the people there. They gave me a map of the university which was very useful. In the beginning of the semester we had the give it a go events which helped us to learn new thing and also gave us a chance to make new friends. The introducon lecture given by our department professors was very informave and gave an outline of dos and donts while studying in the university. Then the formal lectures started. Inially I found it quiet difficult to adapt to the system of teaching in UK which is prey different from Indian system. But whenever I had trouble in understanding or any other issues regarding my studies I can meet the teacher in person or I can just send a mail stang the problem. I got instant replies from them which helped to adapt to this system quickly and easily. All my teachers are very friendly, understanding and never hesitated to answer even my silly quesons. University of Sheffield has many study resources of which the most notable one is Informaon Commons, where we can find all sort of books and the most aracve part is, it is open 24 x 7 throughout the year. About the city, Sheffield is on the best place Ive ever come across. It is a peaceful and lovely city with friendly people. On the roads even strangers will greet us with a smile which is really fascinang. Sheffield has more number of parks where we can see chirping birds, green grass, children playing and people with their pets which will refresh our mind. There are plenty of trees in Sheffield which makes the city look greener and beauful. The only thing which is quiet uncomfortable is the cold winter but this can be easily tackled by proper clothing. Environmental & Energy Engineering

Graduate story I am Shiny Alex from Chennai, India. I did my MSc in Environmental

and Energy Engineering in 2013. I completed my under graduate

degree in Civil Engineering in India. Initially when I looked for doing

my masters I found that University of Sheffield offered MSc (Eng)

Environmental and Energy Engineering. This course uniquely com-

bines both environmental and energy modules which is really inter-

esting and challenging. I chose University of Sheffield because first of

all I liked the course they offered. All the modules covered in the

course were clearly given in the university website. The university

had a good reputation and is well known for its heritage. I had

friends of friends who studied in this university. They told me about

the student life in University of Sheffield and the friendly nature of

people of Sheffield, which really attracted me. These are the main

reasons which made me choose University of Sheffield.

I came to Sheffield with five of my friends. In the beginning I found it

difficult to find the ways to university but when I went to the stu-

dents union I got a warm welcome from the people there. They gave

me a map of the university which was very useful. In the beginning

of the semester we had the give it a go events which helped us to

learn new thing and also gave us a chance to make new friends. The

introduction lecture given by our department professors was very

informative and gave an outline of do’s and don’ts while studying in

the university. Then the formal lectures started. Initially I found it

quiet difficult to adapt to the system of teaching in UK which is

pretty different from Indian system. But whenever I had trouble in

understanding or any other issues regarding my studies I can meet

the teacher in person or I can just send a mail stating the problem.

I got instant replies from them which helped to adapt to this system

quickly and easily. All my teachers are very friendly, understanding

and never hesitated to answer even my silly questions. University of

Sheffield has many study resources of which the most notable one is

Information Commons, where we can find all sort of books and the

most attractive part is, it is open 24 x 7 throughout the year.

About the city, Sheffield is on the best place I’ve ever come across. It

is a peaceful and lovely city with friendly people. On the roads even

strangers will greet us with a smile which is really fascinating.

Sheffield has more number of parks where we can see chirping birds,

green grass, children playing and people with their pets which will

refresh our mind. There are plenty of trees in Sheffield which makes

the city look greener and beautiful. The only thing which is quiet

uncomfortable is the cold winter but this can be easily tackled by

proper clothing. There are also a number of tourist attractions in and

around the city of Sheffield where we can spend our leisure time

with friends. On the whole it is a delightful experience to study in

University of Sheffield which is a second home and to live in Sheffield

which is a home away from home.

Each student registered for a Masters' degree is required to complete a research-based dissertation. The dissertation is a major part of the degree and you are allocated an academic supervisor who will provide advice and guidance throughout. Students take the opportunity to tackle "real-life" problems and the topic for study is selected in consultation with appropriate members of the academic staff.
