This week students are working hard preparing for next wcek'sassessment Monday, April 17, is the beginniiK of the testing window for Primary 3, 4th and Sth grade students. Testing will resume until Friday, April 28. Parents,please encourage your child during this time. Sec below for some parent tips for testing. Each twelve weeks we recognize students during an awards program. BCIQW is a list of students, Entry-Sth grade, who earned awards for Aca- demic Excellence, Principal's List and Honor Roll. Family Resource Center is spon- soring another an night on Monday, April 17. This art night is for Entry Level and Primary One students and families. It begins at 6:00. Help your child feel confident about t^King the test. Express confi- dence in your child's ability to do well. 2. Have a relaxed environment. Avoid any activities and conversa- tions that may arouse anxiety, con- flict or unpleasantness. 3. Try to avoid applying discipli- nary measures to any member of the family on the evening before the test., 4. Have your child go to bed early enough to get plenty of resL 5. Set the clock to alarm a liule early in order to allow your child time to cat and dress without rushing. 6. Sec that the clothes that your child likes and feels comfortable in arc laid out so that frantic searches are avoided. • 7. Be sure thai paper, pencils and other needed school materials are together and loeated where they will not be forgotten in the mcrning. 8. You may want to talk briefly about the test in an encouraging way. Let your child know that your under- stand how difficult tests are, but you arc confident in his/her ability to do well. Emphasize that test results help in planning the child's instructional program. 9. Ask your child to do as well as he/she can. Think of something that would be very pleasing to your child and say that this will be the reward following the test. 10. Let all conversation about testing be casual and brief. 11. Prepare a good breakfast for your child, but not a hepvy one. 12. Be sure that your child is not late for school. 13. The test is constructed to be given' in a group selling. CONSEQUENCES/PENALTIES I f a student tests posiUvc, a second test shall be administered as soon as possible to confirm theresults.If the second test is negative, no further action shall be taken. If the second test is positive, the parents shall be notified, and the Principal or desig- nee shal 1 provide the parcnt/guaidiah and the student with an opportunity to be heard before penalties are im- posed. Forfirstoffenses, the student athlete shall choose one of the fol- lowing options: 1. Participate in a drug-assis- tance program acceptable to the District (with costs to be paid by the student's family) and V; undergo weekly drag testingfor a period of time as designated in administrative procedures, or V J- 2. Be suspended from parties' J pation in all athletics forapC- V riod of one year from the date of the first test that yielded postivc results. For a second offense, the student shall be suspended from participa- tion in all athletics for a period of one year from the date of thefirsttest tliat yielded positive results. For a third offense, the student shall be suspended from participa- tion in all athlctics for the remainder of his/her high school career. After completing a period of sus- pension from an athletic program, the student shall be retested before beginning the next season for which s/hc is eligible.. Offenses shall be cumulative over a student's entire period of participa- tion in all high school athlctics and shall accumulate regardless of the sport season in which they occur. I f a student tests posi Uvc, a second test shall be administered as soon as possible to confirm the results. If the second test is negative, no further action shall be taken. If the second test is positive, the parents shall be notified, and the Principal or desig-nee shal 1 provide the parcnt/guaidiah and the student with an opportunity to be heard before penalties are im-posed. For first offenses, the student athlete shall choose one of the fol-lowing options:

1. Participate in a drug-assis-tance program acceptable to the District (with costs to be paid

by the student's family) and V; undergo weekly drag testingfor a period of time as designated in administrative procedures, or V J-2. Be suspended from parties' J pation in all athletics forapC- V riod of one year from the date of the first test that yielded postivc results.

For a second offense, the student shall be suspended from participa-tion in all athletics for a period of one year from the date of the first test tliat yielded positive results.

For a third offense, the student shall be suspended from participa-tion in all athlctics for the remainder of his/her high school career.

After completing a period of sus-pension from an athletic program, the student shall be re tested before beginning the next season for which s/hc is eligible..

Offenses shall be cumulative over a student's entire period of participa-tion in all high school athlctics and shall accumulate regardless of the sport season in which they occur.

Positive test results' shall no#bc turned over to law enforcement au- -thorilics.
