OverviewThis workshop will introduce the use of Quiz Poppers and Quiz Groups for promoting active learning in your course. There are 7 question types built into QuizPoppers. These questions can be inserted anywhere in your lesson. Student scores can also be tracked.

We don't suggest using a SoftChalk quiz to replace a D2L quiz but instead use the quiz for self assessment / self study and/or use it in a flipped classroom situation. When using a SoftChalk tracked lesson in a flipped classroom situation students will create a screen shot of their lesson certificate of completion showing their lesson score, paste the certificate in a Word document and upload the Word document to a dropbox that closes before the face-to-face class meets.

Reusability

QuizPoppers can be saved into a library so that they can be re-used in other lessons. Quiz Groups allow you to insert multiple QuizPoppers at one time. Points assigned to individual questions within a Quiz Group will be included in the total lesson score.

QuizPopper questions can be exported into a Blackboard and Respondus format for use in D2L.   Quiz Groups can also be exported to a Flash Drive or exported and the resulting Zip file can be mailed to a colleague.

Publishing

SoftChalk lessons can be published anywhere for student use. They can be published to your personal website on MTweb or to the MTMedia server. They can be published to D2L and they can be published to the SoftChalk Connect Plus site (pay service)*.

*Note: You can store copies of your work on the free SoftChalk Connect site.

QuizPoppers, Quiz Groups, and ActivitiesExplain and demonstrate differences between QuizPoppers, Quiz Groups, and Activities (Objectives #3 and #4).

What is the difference between QuizPoppers, Quiz Groups, and ActivitiesIn a nutshell....

QuizPoppers are single scorable questions that can be inserted anywhere in a lesson. Quiz Groups allow you to insert multiple QuizPoppers at one time. Activities are interactive learning components that allow the student to self access their knowledge of

course content.

More specifically.....

QuizPoppersQuizPoppers are single scorable questions that can be inserted anywhere in a lesson. There are seven types of QuizPoppers:

1. True/False question2. Multiple Choice question3. Multiple Answer question4. Short Answer question5. Matching exercise

Page 4: mtweb.mtsu.edumtweb.mtsu.edu/fitc/softchalk/Quiz popp…  · Web view · 2012-09-17It allows you to deliver e-learning content ... Learn how to create and modify single and multiple

6. Ordering exercise7. Essay question

With QuizPoppers you can:

1. Insert questions anywhere you like within a lesson2. Paste text from other programs into a QuizPopper edit screen3. Enter as many questions as you want into a lesson4. Keep track of your students' scores

IMPORTANT : You typically can't copy and paste QuizPoppers; however, you can save a QuizPopper to the Library for re-use.(Note: You can copy and paste a QuizPopper if it is copied along with text that appears before and after the QuizPopper.)

Quiz GroupsQuiz Groups allow you to insert multiple QuizPoppers at one time. You can insert different types of QuizPoppers within the same group. Points assigned to individual questions within a Quiz Group will be included in the total lesson score. You can get questions from the Library to put into your Quiz Group. You can also save your Quiz Group questions to your Library.

You can display your Quiz Group questions:

All at once, allowing students to scroll through the questions OR One at a time

IMPORTANT:

When students are answering Quiz Group questions with their web browsers, they will need to click Check Answers at the bottom of the Quiz Group when you choose the All at once option.

If you choose the One at a time option, students will need to click Check Answers at the last screen.

ActivitiesActivities are interactive learning components that allow the student to self access their knowledge of course content. There are twenty-one types of activities and two main categories of activities - mobile friendly and flash based.

IMPORTANT: In other words, if you plan on collecting scores from students who are accessing lessons from mobile devices, be sure to use ONLY Mobile Friendly activities, QuizPoppers and Quiz Groups in your
