Ajam ke bayaaba se mafroor hoo(n)gaa

I will run far away and distance myself from all jungles (places of harm)

and things which are foreign (to Islam)

This is a beautiful Naath Shareef of Hazrat Shah Hakeem Muhammad

Akhtar Sahib (RA), my Sheikh and Murshid.

There are 2 words which are commonly used, “Ajam” and “Arab”. Besides

the Arabs, everyone else is called Ajmi (non-Arab). However, that meaning

is not meant here.

In order to understand the word “Ajam” here, one should picture oneself in

a wild jungle, be it the Kruger National Park or any other park where there

are wild animals roaming in their natural surroundings.

In that jungle there are lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards and other wild

animals. There are also snakes, scorpions and cobras in that jungle. On

every side there is some danger lurking.

In such a situation, what would a person want to do? He would want to run

far from there because he knows that those animals would attack, devour

and tear him to pieces. If he is not devoured by the animals, then he would

either be stung or bitten by scorpions or snakes.

In the jungles there is nothing but harm, pain and suffering. He runs very

fast from the jungle.

That is exactly the case with sins. There is nothing in it but harm.

If a person is bitten by this sin or that sin, it will cause him nothing but

harm.

Just as a person could be devoured in a jungle, here also a person could be

devoured by sins.

8

AN-NOOR MAGAZINE

Some sins could devour a person’s Imaan. Sometimes a person’s actions

and A’amaal are eaten up and devoured, or the sweetness of his Ibaadat

is gone, or the sweetness of his Tilaawat vanishes or the enjoyment of his

Zikr is lost.

As a result many people walk on the surface of the earth while the wrath

and anger of Allah Ta’ala is focused upon them. Hence these sins are just

like those wild animals.

So the person says: “Oh Allah, I am a Muslim, I am a believer in You, I am

a believer in Rasoolullah r, I am a believer in Jannat and Jahannam, I am

a believer in the Aakhirah, I am a believer in life after death and I am a

believer in the Day of Judgment. Therefore I will run far away and distance

myself from everything which is “Ajam” (foreign). I will distance myself

from everything which is displeasing to Allah Ta’ala and Rasoolullah r. I

will distance myself from all those things which are foreign to Islam, foreign

to Shariah, foreign to Deen and from anything which is against the Quraan

and Sunnat of Nabi-e-Kareem r. I will run far away from anything that

takes a person away from the remembrance of Allah Ta’ala”.

All the Asbaab (means/avenues) of sins are also Ajam (foreign to Islam).

As Allah Ta’ala says in the Quraan Shareef:

“So run towards Allah”.

So, a person will even run far away from those things which will lead to sin.

This applies to everyone, especially to that person who is in Madeena

Shareef. Before I leave my country, I will make sincere Tauba and distance

myself from all sins.

VOLUME 2 • DHUL QA’DAH 1435

Now that I am in Madeena Shareef, I will apply myself even more to ensure

that my eyes are not cast in the wrong places. In our country, sometimes

we are not faced with that type of situation as a person is faced with while

performing Tawaaf. All around there are women folk.

This is where the person’s real test is, not in the Musjid of his country where

there are separate sections for men. The real test is in Makkah Shareef,

while performing Tawaaf.

Does he have the Istihzaar (consciousness) that every woman present is

the guest of Allah Ta’ala and every person in Madeena Shareef is a guest of

Nabi-e-Kareem r?

Does he have the Istihzaar (consciousness) that he is in that beloved land,

that Mubarak land, that Muhtaram land, the very ground on which Nabi-e-

Kareem r made Tawaaf, the ground on which Ambiyaa (Alaihimus Salaam)

made Tawaaf, the same piece of ground upon which 124000 Sahabah-

e-Kiraam (Radhiyallahu Anhum Ajmaeen) made Tawaaf during Hajjatul-

Widaa?

Hazrat Abu Bakr (t) has walked on the same piece of ground, Hazrat

Umar, Hazrat Uthmaan and Hazrat Ali Murtadhaa (Radhiyallahu Anhum

Ajmaeen) also walked on the same piece of ground.

So many Taabieen, Tabi-Taabieen, Mashaaikh and Auliyaa-e-Siddiqeen

have also walked on the same piece of ground. Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jailaani

(RA), Bayazeed Bustaami (RA), Sayid Ahmad Rifaa’i (RA) and Khwaaja

Mueenuddeen Ajmeri (RA) also walked on the same piece of ground.

Like this, so many Mashaaikh and pious people could be mentioned.

Therefore we should remember at all times where we are and that Allah

Ta’ala has brought us here.

Gulistaane Taiba se masroor hoo(n)gaa

My enjoyment and pleasure will be in the gardens of Madeena Shareef

(i.e. my enjoyment and pleasure will be in everything pleasing to Allah

Ta’ala and Rasoolullah r)

“Gulistaane Tayba” means the gardens of Madeena Shareef. My enjoyment

and pleasure will be in the gardens of Madeena Shareef. Every piece and

every inch of ground in Madeena Shareef is nothing but a garden. I will

indeed get my happiness just being in Madeena Shareef. Another meaning

is that my enjoyment and pleasure is in good Aa’maal; good and righteous

deeds; in everything which is according to the Quraan and Sunnat. In

everything which is pleasing to Allah Ta’ala and Rasoolullah r, in namaaz,

roza, Tilaawat, Salaat and Salaam upon Nabi-e-Kareem r, charities,

humility, generosity, kindness, sincerity, good Akhlaaq and character,

assistance and help to the people in need in Madeena Shareef and those

accompanying us on the trip. Those (noble qualities) will give me joy and

happiness. These will be the ultimate gardens. For a true believer, good

Aa’maal and actions are the real gardens. Now, being in Madeena Shareef,

his rewards are multiplied by 50 000. In Makkah Shareef, his rewards are

multiplied by 100 000. Whatever will please my Allah and Rasoolullah

r, will also please me. My happiness and pleasure will not be in sins. My

happiness and pleasure will never be in disobedience.

How can I be casting lustful glances here and there?

How can I be listening to music and watching T.v. and movies in the hotel

rooms?

How can I be sitting in the lobby and passing my time in Gheebat, gossip

and other kinds of Haraam?

11

VOLUME 2 • DHUL QA’DAH 1435

Yet another meaning is to experience happiness and enjoyment due to

being present in Madeena Shareef. Only a Munaafiq and a hypocrite does

not get joy being in Madeena Shareef. There is something seriously wrong

with the person’s Imaan if he does not feel happiness in being in Madeena

Shareef, his heart does not enjoy satisfaction, he does not seem to find

Sukoon, he does not seem to find peace and tranquillity, he does not seem

to find that bonding with Allah Ta’ala and Nabi-e-Kareem r and he does

not become the fish which swims deep down in the oceans of Ma’rifat of

Allah Ta’ala and in the oceans of the Ishq and Muhabbat of Nabi-e-Kareem

r.

The Imaan of a Mu’min makes him excited, happy and pleased. He gets

Suroor and happiness to be in Madeena Shareef.

Thus, the nafs is Ajam and the Rooh of Taqwa is Gulistaane Tayba (the

gardens of Madeena Shareef).

To be continued in the next issue Insha Allah
