Luddenham Show The 2010 Luddenham Show will

be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February There will be all the usual fun events with Elvis appear-ing on Saturday night This will be the 107th show with the first Ludden-ham Agricultural Show held in1891 It still maintains its country atmosphere

Matt Clinch from the Clinness Hos-pitality Group Pty Ltd has re-opened a caferestaurant in the historic building of Glenmore This was one of the orig-inal homes built by the Cox family and is now the Glenmore Heritage Valley Golf Club The sandstone terrace is a lovely setting for alfresco dining with beautiful views of the dam and gar-

dens and seats up to 110 people The courtyard is a little more intimate and will seat up to 40 and the inside dining room is air conditioned

The food is mainly Australian with an Asian influence with coffee and light meals for lunches available 7 days a week The gourmet lsquoall you can eatrsquo BBQ on Friday and Saturday nights costs $2850 per head and in-cludes Scotch fillet chicken breast marinated in a Thai sauce Morro-can kangaroo skewers Tiger Prawn skewers salads tea coffee and pe-tite cakes and fruit salad for dessert The lsquoGazeborsquo serves hot breakfastsat weekends from 7am-3pm and roast meat rolls and coffee and teas

being built on the corner of Glenmore Park Way and Blue Hills Drive The centre will provide a number of new serv-ices for the community

On Saturday 14th November Bronson Lovett married his long time partner Natasha Pritchard Bronson was born in Wallacia Natasha originally from Beechworth in Victoria moved to Penrith with her family 10 years ago The couple have travelled extensively around Australia and interna-tionally but planned a lsquoLocalrsquo theme for their wedding

The ceremony was held at Bents Basin and conducted by local celebrant Ellena Jee-MacLennan The couple and guests celebrated afterwards at the Wallacia Hotel

Funding for Local Vol-unteer Organisations

The Federal Member for Fowler Julia Irwin MP has welcomed Austral-ian Government funding of $36000 to local volunteer organisations under the Volunteer Grants 2009 initiative

ldquoThe Australian Governmentrsquos vol-unteer grants provide valuable support to our community organisations with funding of between $1000 and $5000 availablerdquo Julia Irwin said

ldquoFor many local volunteer organisa-tions these grants provide the opportu-nity to cover the cost of fuel and to pur-chase equipment such as computers and office equipment sheds fire ex-tinguishers defibrillators first aid kits and other items necessary to support the activities of our volunteers ldquoThis funding will ease the financial pressure on non-profit organisations and their volunteers who make a real and last-ing difference in the lives of so many people in our communityrdquo

Tough New Graffiti Laws

New laws that double penalties for graffiti vandalism and ban juveniles from possessing spray cans have come into force Attorney General John Hatzistergos said

Mr Hatzistergos said it is now ille-gal for a juvenile to carry a spray can unless they can prove they had it for a legitimate purpose

The Attorney General had this mes-sage for would-be graffiti vandals

ldquoIf police catch a juvenile carrying a spray can in a public place they will have to prove they were using it for school work or legal art or face six months jail or a $1100 finerdquo he said

ldquoFrom today if you get caught de-facing property with graffiti you face the prospect of spending up to a year in jailrdquo

Mr Hatzistergos said the Govern-ment has also expanded the offence of supplying spray paint to minors to cover adults who go on to supply to juveniles

The new laws are part of the NSW Governmentrsquos coordinated campaign to combat graffiti which includes clean-up orders community clean-up

initiatives and new anti- graffiti plan-ning guidelines

ldquoFrom next year courts will have the power to order graffiti vandals to pay off their fines by cleaning up graf-fiti at a rate of $30 per hourrdquo he said

ldquoWe will also launch Australiarsquos first Graffiti Action Day in May next year ndash in association with Keep Australia Beautifulrdquo

The Government will also roll out $1 million in annual grants to imple-ment anti-graffiti design for buildings in graffiti hotspots

ldquo M i n o r building modi-fications such as covering a wall with veg-etation or a graffiti resist-ant coating denies graf-fiti vandals a blank canvasrdquo he said

The top 10 graffiti hotspots ear-marked for a grant include B l a c k t o w n

Sutherland Shire Newcastle Penrith Gosford and Wollongong

Mr Hatzistergos said the Govern-ment will next year introduce new state planning guidelines to ldquograffiti proofrdquo new State Government buildings

ldquoWe will back this up with a dedi-cated unit to provide training and ex-pert advice to organisations including architects planners and engineersrdquo he said

The Government is also develop-ing anti-graffiti guidelines with local councils

Penrith City Council is warning land owners to avoid accepting free fill to raise or level their land as owners may find they are responsible for ex-pensive removal costs and risk fines if the fill is illegal or inappropriate

Penrith City Mayor Kevin Crameri OAM said while the offer may be tempting land fill can be contaminated and that in many cases a development application must be lodged ldquoImproper land filling is a serious issue and Pen-rith City Council is working hard to prevent illegal landfill practicesrdquo Coun-cillor Crameri said ldquoOften the free fill that is advertised is not clean It may contain toxic chemicals such as lead or old building materials such as as-bestos that could harm your family

ldquoA supplier must have an official validation certificate to certify that the fill is clean The property owner is of-ten liable for costs if the fill has to be removed or the area rehabilitated and there are also penalties for accepting land fill without Council consent ldquoIn-appropriate fill can also change water flows and cause flooding damage

ldquoCouncil must place a note on the

propertyrsquos title where fill material of un-known source and quantity has been placed without approval This will alert potential purchasers and could signifi-cantly impact on your propertyrsquos value

ldquoSuppliers of free fill are looking for residential dumping grounds to avoid paying tipping fees at authorised waste facilities Tipping fees for a 10-tonne truck load of soil and waste with-out a validation certificate costs about $2000 To get rid of the fill and avoid fees they will display sale signs let-terbox drop or door knock to find rural landowners willing to accept landfill

ldquoPlease check with Penrith City Council on 4732 7777 before you con-sider putting landfill on your property This material in the wrong place can damage the environment by pollut-ing waterways destroying vegetation contaminating land and causing ero-sion And it could cost you the Earthrdquo

Local Asbestos Diseases Support

The Asbestos Diseases Foundation of Australia is a not-for profit organisa-tion which provides support to people living with asbestos related diseases as well as their family members car-

ers and friends ADFA also has a long history of advocacy work

ADFA focuses on community edu-cation about the dangers of asbestos which can cause asbestosis and dead-ly mesothelioma even from exposure is to a single fibre of asbestos dust Our aim is to reduce the number of people exposed to asbestos Tens of thou-sands of Australians are expected to be diagnosed with asbestos diseases in the next couple of decades with home renovators increasingly falling victim In recent years victims have also included many cases of children being exposed around the home and wives exposed by washing work clothes

ADFA run support groups are for people living with asbestos related diseases and their family members In February 2010 a new Penrith support group will be launched These groups also provide information about current medical research the drugs used in treatment the likely and side effects

Mulgoa PS students entertain seniors

The annual Christmas presenta-tion by the students of Mulgoa Public School to the local seniors was very much appreciated yet again

This year the St Clair seniors also came along and they all really enjoyed the lovely singing especially the tradi-tional carols Silent Night and Away in a Manger which brought a few tears to their eyes Jennifer Thompson the Principal of Mulgoa Public School said ldquoThe children were very touched by the reception from the seniors and were really glad that they learnt these songs since it meant so much to the senior citizens One of the students even managed to perform the dances with a broken foot - in plaster We are

already planning our concert for next year and hope it is even bet-ter and longer
