AGAINThis is not the end of the wet with theBureau of meteorology expecting morerains in the coming weeks. Of coursewith the rain brings a number ofdangers. Police are urging motorists todrive with care especially along theGillies Highway with an increase in thenumber of traffic accidents during thistime of year. Every year a number ofvehicles slip off the side of the rangecausing injuries and damage. It isimportant the motorists drive toconditions and slow down during thistime of year. People are also warnedabout attempting to drive throughfloodwaters causing emergencyservices personnel putting their ownlives at risk through rescuing strandedmotorists.
Another danger is playing in the floodedwaters. The Mulgrave River and otherrecreational areas around the districtare prone to rapid rises during heavyrain and swimming in these areas at thistime of year can be very hazardous.

WOLTHER’S WONDERLANDBy Wendy Maddocks
Seeking to:Lene and Lars Wolthers and
their three sons, arrived in Australia in 1981 as non-sponsoredimmigrants which meant they had to have guaranteed employmentbefore they left Denmark.
Lars began work as an electrical engineer and Lene, although herDanish qualifications as a psychiatric nurse were accepted inAustralia, still had to undertake additional training.
In 2002, they retired to their two acre block of land beside the LittleMulgrave River. It was a life-changing decision prompted by theirlove of animals and the sense of freedom and peace they found inthe countryside. They lived in a campervan whilst building thehouse they designed and, in 2004, were naturalized in Cairns.
Their hard work and planning has created a wonderful world ofanimals, gardens and a high level of self supporting staples such asvegetables, eggs and fruit. Well water, solar power and a septicsystem all help to create a chemically-free environment. As anadded bonus they have the joy and companionship of ducks, geese, chickens, two Boxer dogs and a mini horse called “Houdini”, as wellas a spectacular range of native animals, birds and plants.
It is a busy life but Lene finds time to spin, weave, make her ownsoap, create the most beautiful teddy bears and even teach theseskills to others. Donations for this tuition can be made to the LittleMulgrave Rural Fire Brigade, which they have been active membersof for more than ten years.
Lene and Lars Wolthers have lived in Australia for thirty-two yearsand their contribution to the land of their choice cannot becalculated. As I wandered around their beautiful wonderland, Iknew I would long remember the sense of peace and quiet and yes, sanctuary, that they have created.

sons a chance of a more peaceful life,”

Part of this will involve sign on days forparents to bring their kids along to signup with their local teams. It is also atime for a variety of learning programsto commence, as clubs attempt to encourage new players to come alongand give their game a try.
Pyramid Power Junior AFL Club will be commencing their own 8 weekAuskick program to be run by their president and coach, Brett Kennerleyon Saturday 2nd March. This initiative allows for children as young as six togive the sport a go in a modified and safe environment. Auskick will be held at Power Park, on Maher Road, Gordonvale on theseSaturday mornings between 10.00am and 11.00am. The cost for theprogram is $60.00, and this is an annual fee, meaning that if a child wantsto participate in another Auskick program later in the calendar year theymay do so without paying again (children currently involved with theYarrabah Auskick program can join this Gordonvale program also, provided they have already paid in full). Also included in this price is astarter kit which includes a super footy bag, synthetic football, cap andother fun items.

Robyn’s treatments are for relaxation as well as easing pain anddiscomfort. Many clients make appointments when they are gettingstressed, generally feeling out of balance or just want to have arelaxing treatment.
When our muscles are tense our whole body feels tight. This mayresult in restless sleeping patterns, headaches or just feeling unwell. When our minds are busy, tired or stressed our bodies react as well. Atreatment restores balance to the body via the autonomic nervoussystem.
When are bodies are relaxed, our nervous system has a chance toheal and a healthy balance is restored.
It may take only one treatment to release tight muscles which resultsin a more relaxed boy and, in turn, will help calm the mind.
Take some time out and treat yourself.

Welcome to this month's update on all things Real Estate. I hopeeveryone had an excellent Christmas and that 2013 is shaping up tobe a good year for you.
Well I know that I said that the Christmas New Year period is a busy onein real estate and I am happy to say that I have 12 happy sets of Buyers
and Sellers since we last went to print! Many properties sold within a few days of being listed, some had multiple offers and a few sold at or above list price!
With the rental stress of few properties available and weekly rents going up combined withinvestors, first home buyers and renters all now looking to buy and take advantage of the lowinterest rates, there has never been a better time to jump into the market. The market isfirming and shows signs of slowing strengthening.
For those of you hoping to sell to buy, especially when it comes to upsizing and downsizing, timing is crucial. I have quite a lot of experience in this type of sale so feel free togive me a call to discuss the different options. Robyn Hawley-Whitton - 0488 071 007 orE: [email protected]
