    Dear Readers,

After a succession of difficult years withstagnating or downward market trends, the outlook has at last taken a turn for thebetter. All forecasters hold out the pros-pect of an economic recovery on everycontinent, with the focus on the Far Eastand a dynamic development in the USA.What we now need is a positive mood inthe business community which inducesour customers to resume their investingactivity and order more of our products.

We can again have confidence in the sta-bility of some of our biggest customers af-ter a period when even big multinationalcompanies were caught up in serious fi-nancial upheavals and we feared for someof our major assets. We can neverthelessview the result for the past year with sat-isfaction. We succeeded in maintainingour staff level and even in expanding ourturnover. We also take a highly optimisticview of the year 2004.

Now to a few personal thoughts. For 25years it has been my privilege to guideand direct the development of our firm. This has been a great opportunity and achallenge, and I can look back in prideover the past years. Our group is in a veryhealthy state and is present all over theworld. Almost 600 people have found em-

Now that our future is assured in theStäubli group, in the years ahead Ishould like to take things somewhateasier and gradually withdraw from theeveryday running of the firm.

It is time for a new generation to takecharge of operational activities and keepMC fit for the challenges of the future. That, however, does not mean I alreadyintend to take leave of the company.

As an active member of the board of di-rectors I should like to devote myselfmore to strategic issues and I shall nat-urally give my full support to the opera-tional team with my accumulated expe-rience, as well as retaining directresponsibility for a number of functions.

I wish the operational team good for-tune and the drive, motivation, stayingpower and sometimes sensitivity thatthey need to continue the MC successstory.

    Yours sincerely,

The operational management team of the MC Group

ployment with us and havedone outstanding work inthe creation of the organisa-tion and the development ofour products.

I have gained great satis-faction from my work, canlook back on a very variedand interesting time withfew lows and many highs. Ihave also enjoyed seeingthe enthusiasm and com-mitted efforts of so manypeople in this firm.
