You‘ve probably been hearing the song—“Gangnam Style” by South Korea rapper PSY. It was released on July 15 and has been viewed online over 450 million times and thus it has become the latest music hit on the Internet. What`s catching the eyes in Gangnam style is PSY`s unique dance moves, funny horse riding scenes and dancing in a towel. Even as many may not understand the language, the video has become the talk of the Internet. The song is so popular that even a few of South Korea`s presidential candidates are imitating PSY`s moves in an appeal to voters. PSY, whose stage name comes from the first three letters of the word “psycho ( 精神病人 ),” is from a wealthy family and was actually raised and educated south of the Han River, near Gangnam, the third largest district of Seoul. In an entertaining way, the song explores South Koreans’ love-hate relationship with Gangnam. However, some pop music critics see PSY as a country bumpkin( 乡巴佬 ) and a far cry from( 与…相距甚远 ) the so-called “Gangnam Style”.
