Benefits• Support for multicast, as well as unicast, is important

for a variety of applications.• Extending the IGP to support multicast traffic

distribution as well as unicast traffic forwarding has significant benefits:– Faster convergence: When a separate protocol is

used, such as PIM, the IGP converges first, then PIM converges, to the convergence times add.

– Using one base protocol is simpler, more efficient, and makes automated configuration easier.

• Request that this be adopted as a WG draft– There have been questions and suggestions for

improvement but no objections

• Additional Work– Security Considerations section needs work– Interworking with PIM – could be a separate draft
