Medical Emergencies in the Dental OfficeAdvances in implant treatment options for patients and altered techniques have certainly made implant rehabilitationmore feasible for more and more patients. Clinicians are sometimes bombarded with the “best” solutions forpatients, whether it be from the patients’ themselves, manufacturers or the media. Individualized patient care issometimes erroneously overlooked in certain cases. Appropriate diagnosis, planning, and treatment execution isparamount to successful long term outcomes both prosthetically and surgically. These key factors will be discussedas well as the red flags in implant dentistry of which to be aware to avoid negative outcomes and increase patientsatisfaction.

The Evolution of Dental Implant Esthetics; Meeting our Patients’ Expectations.

The continued evolution of dental implant technology and our understanding of biology provides new opportunitiesfor dental therapy. Our patients’ expectations are continually changing as well. This presentation will focus on thevarious surgical and Prosthodontic approaches available to meet patients’ esthetic expectations. An added focus willbe the technology needed to meet these challenges. Three different scenarios will be considered; 1) the singleanterior implant patient, 2) the anterior maxillary trauma patient requiring multiple implants and 3) the completelyedentulous patient. What is currently possible (the best available evidence) regarding a) planning, b) the surgicalapproach, and c) the restorative design, materials and manufacture for optimal esthetic reconstruction of simple andcomplex prostheses will be carefully considered. Participants who contribute to the surgical, clinical restorative, andtechnological will gain further appreciation for the opportunities and limitations presented by dental implant solutionsfor esthetically challenging dental rehabilitation.

Direct Tooth Coloured Restorations Direct tooth coloured restorations are a daily, routine procedure for the restorative dentist. The demand for toothcoloured restorations has grown exponentially over the last few years and not surprisingly so has the marketing ofvarious products. Through all of this, practitioners must diagnose, treat and most importantly prognosticate for ourpatients. A delicate balance of accepted, time honoured principles and methods in concert with current trends inesthetic and cosmetic materials and techniques must be entertained, whether this involves a single toothreplacement or a full mouth rehabilitative approach. This full day evidence-based didactic/clinical program willexplore the diagnostic steps, materials, and treatment strategies to maximize restorative efficacy. The afternoonclinical session will facilitate the placement and finishing of direct anterior and posterior restorations. The attendeesof this program will thereby observe:

1. Evidence-based care (what it is and what it is not)

2. Diagnostics
