Mekano®

Mekano is the concept name of all channels and fixing acces-sories for MultiGrid. The Mekano channels are multidiscipline and used for creating support and support frames. All Mekanoparts are marked in red in the following system drawings.

Discipline Parts

Discipline parts for Electro/Instrument/ Telecom are marked ingreen, HVAC are marked in blue and Piping parts are marked in yellow.

Multidiscipline Support

MultiGrid® is an integrated support system for all main disciplines such as electrical,instrumentation, telecom, HVAC and piping.A key feature is the compatible components which gives you maximum support flexibility across the disciplines. This offers you thefreedom to use the system for one or twodisciplines, or three or four if you like. The system provides a bolted solutionfor supporting all disciplines.

MultiGrid®

MultiGrid is the concept name of the entire multidiscipline sup- port system. The MultiGrid concept covers all welded and bolted starter brackets, all channels and frames.

MultiGrid® is available in Aveva’s PDMS format along with our cable ladders, trays and Intergraph’s Smart Plant 3D. See page 74.

TW!The utmost use of Mul-tiGrid™

Start by welding starter brackets in a grid pattern before painting the main structure.

For increased flexibility a horizontal Mekano channel can be bolted to the starters.

The idea behind MultiGrid® is that welding brackets are welded in a square pattern (e.g. 1200 x 600 cm).

These are welded early in the construction phase, and later sandblasted and painted along with the steel structure.

The broad range of starter brackets and channels provide excellent support for any discipline.

MultiGrid® delivers modification flexiblity, and eliminates need for hot work. No shut down required.

The broad range of brackets in the Mul-tiGrid® system enable support for dif-ferent loads. The starters should always be selected based on the load capacity needed.

The grid pattern is decided through a dia-logue between the engineering experts.

All grid starters and Mekano® channels are fully compatible in order to provide flexibility and deliver lowest possible Total System Cost.

Whatever support you decide, the solution may be preassembled before installation.

Nyhamna Power StationAukra, NorwayIn 2006 it was decided that Norwegian main grid owner Statnett was to build two gas turbine driven power plants on the north-west coast of Norway. The three production units were expected to produce 150 MW.

Late 2007 Oglaend System was contacted by E&I Contractor Siemens Installation, and based on their sketch our R&D department developed a solution including MultiGrid™ support, cable ladders Type OE, trefoil cable cleats Type SmartCleat and earth links.

The Mekano 100-3 channel along with accessories was the best choice for the 4.5 meter tall towers. The channels were easy to handle and assemble due to the light weight of the 2.5 mm thick non-magnetic AISI 316 L stainless steel. Even if none of the items exceeded the maximum man-handling weight of 25 kg the final construction was firm and strong.
