WINTER

So, as we learned there are four seasons with many different weather patterns and similar weather patterns depending on where you are at in the Earth, and even in the USA.

The Seasons

The weather in each season varies depending

on where you are at in the Earth or in the USA.

For this assignment, I will

be looking at mainly Oregon weather.

As the sun shines on the earth, it shines more directly on the northern hemisphere in June and more directly on the southern hemisphere in December. That's why the seasons are different in each hemisphere. In the spring and fall, the sun shines fairly straight on the equator, giving both hemispheres equal warming.

After learning about the seasons, please fill out the following: MY FAVORITE SEASON IS: Four reasons why it’s my favorite 1) ___________________________ _____________________________ 2) ___________________________ _____________________________ 3) __________________________ _____________________________ 4) ___________________________ _____________________________

Winter beings in December, and ends in March. Winters usually are cooler and wet. It is rainy and snowy. We may also see, freezing rain, sleet, and hail. Some parts of Oregon, and the USA, and the world get huge amounts of snow during the winter. Winter is when earth’s North Pole is tilted farther away from the sun than at any other time of the year. While we in the United States have winter, Australia, South Africa and the southern parts of South America will have summer. Because the weather continues to cool for about another month after the shortest days, the coldest weather actually arrives after the winter solstice. For most of the Northern Hemisphere, January and February are typically the coldest months.

Page 7: Multiplication Count-bys - Weebly...Multiplication Count-bys 2 ... In fall, we celebrate Halloween, and T. when you see lots of umbrellas and rain . boots. The weather begins to change

Spring begins in the month of March, and ends in June. This is when the sun sits directly above the equator on its apparent trip northward. Of course this sun isn’t moving; Earth is. As Earth revolves around the sun, the top half, called the Northern Hemisphere, becomes tilted more toward the sun as winter turns to spring. Meanwhile the bottom half, the Southern Hemisphere, becomes tilted more away from the sun. So it is autumn for people in Australia and the southern parts of Africa and South America. Spring in Oregon, is usually very mild and very rainy. There have been times when we have seen snow in the spring. This is the time of year, when you see lots of umbrellas and rain boots. This is also when the animals come out from hibernation (hiding during the winter) and the flowers and trees start budding and blooming.

SUMMER

Summer begins in June and ends in September. During the summer, school is out, and the weather is usually nicer and warmer. The sun comes out. The days get longer, and the weather is warmer. In some areas, and on some days, it even gets HOT!

FALL

Fall begins in September and ends in December. School begins in the fall. The first part of fall is usually dry and the weather starts to get cooler. The leaves begin to change color, and fall to the ground. In fall, we celebrate Halloween, and Thanksgiving. This is the time of year, when you see lots of umbrellas and rain boots. The weather begins to change toward the winter weather, and starts to get rainy. We see animals preparing for the cold winter months by some birds flying south (where it is warmer – because they are having their summer during our winter) and other animals begin storing food, and going into hibernation or hiding.

While we in the United States have winter, Australia, South Africa and the southern parts of South America will have summer. Because the weather continues to cool for about another month after the shortest days, the coldest weather actually arrives after the winter solstice. For most of the Northern Hemisphere, January and February are typically the coldest months.

Seasons

Page 19: Multiplication Count-bys - Weebly...Multiplication Count-bys 2 ... In fall, we celebrate Halloween, and T. when you see lots of umbrellas and rain . boots. The weather begins to change

Spring begins in the month of March, and ends in June.

Although in the summer, we will sometimes have rain. Summer is the time when you see a lot of flip flops and people going bare foot, and enjoying the summer sun. People also go the lake, the beach, etc, and play in the water.

WINTER

The weather in each season

varies depending on where you are at on the Earth or in the

USA.

This tri-fold brochure will be looking at mainly Oregon

weather. As the sun shines on the earth, it shines more directly on the northern hemisphere in June and more directly on the southern hemisphere in December. That's why the seasons are different in each hemisphere. In the spring and fall, the sun shines fairly straight on the equator, giving both hemispheres equal warming.

The chart shows the students’ test scores on their pre-test and post-test during the Writing Zippy Sentence Grammar unit that I taught during my student teaching last year. In the unit, students learned about sentences and sentence structure. They learned that sentences start with a capital letter, and end with a period or other punctuation mark. Students mastered the concept of a simple sentence, and then moved on to how to use modifiers to make their sentences more interesting. Students mastered how to use

nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns, and adverbs, correctly in sentences. They also learned how to correctly use commas and quotation marks. They will also be introduced to the skill of proofreading, which will make them a better writer.
