Electrodynamic Testing Systems Series LFV – E 1 - 2.5 kN

The Series LFV-E are fl uid-free non-hydraulic systems currently available with force capaci-ties up to 2.5 kN for fatigue and durability test-ing, tensile, compression, bend, peel or shear

strength testing as well as crack initiation. These table top systems with its SerovElec-tric drive mounted on upper crosshead rep-resents a versatile and reliable fatigue rated

testing machines combined with latest drive technology. These machines are selected from testing professionals in quality control, R&D or Universities who desire a compact space saving, clean and quite low force testing unit that requires no environmental consideration and virtually no maintenance. The ServoElectric drive with its in-line digital displacement transducer provides noise-free stroke measurement or control. This drive fea-tures backlash-free motion with no fl uid com-pressibility to compromise position accuracy. The system is available with integral T-slot platen providing high degree of fl exibility or attachable (to the upper crosshead) closed frame often used from those who test e.g. dental implants in combination with saline bath. The upper crosshead can be lift or lowered through integrated electrical spindles to ad-just the desired test space. Only unclamp the crosshead by twisting the lever clamps and pushing the up / down bottom without any tools. The spindles for lift/lower are protected against dust or mechanical damage. An emer-gency stop is available direct at the testing machine as well as on the remote control unit which can be used for precise of the actuator through digital hand-wheel.

Features• Flexible system for simple static to high

frequency fatigue tests• Clean and quite non-hydraulic drive

with integral bearings• Backlash-free motion with no fl uid

compressibility • Integrated noise-free stroke transducer• Virtually maintenance free system with

lower life cycle cost• Reduced moving parts• Easy to operate • Space saving compact design

State-of-the-art ServoElectric testing system to execute both static and dynamic testing on ma-terials and components including biomaterials and biomedical / dental implants, plastics, tex-tiles composites and automotive or electronic components.

Load FrameThe Series LFV load frames are designed for precision Testing for a wide range of dynamic applications. They are rigid two- or four-col-umn construction for superior axial and later-al stiffness and precision aligned ensure con-sistent loading is applied to specimen. If the actuator is mounted on upper crosshead the

machine having a integral T-slot platen suita-ble to fi x grips or fi xtures, components, speci-mens, manufactured assemblies or fi nished goods. The actuator is well suited for high piston speed at virtually service-free fatigue testing with manifold attached direct on actu-ator providing close-coupled servovalve and accumulators for improved performance with highest possible respond and reduced pres-sure fl uctuations. To facilitate re-positioning, the upper crosshead of the Series LFV is ad-justable and the columns are chrome plated for easy cleaning and longest life.

ActuatorPart of the load frame of the Series LFV is a double ended, in equal area constructed ac-tuator to generate equal axial force in tension and compression with hydrostatic bearings. The hydrostatic bearings provides extremely low fi ction for the most accurate control and longest reliable lifetime at full ratings. A pre-cision displacement transducer is integrated in the actuators. They are well suited for all types of testing (from static to dynamic) and are known for their excellent fatigue reliabili-ty, accuracy and repeatability. These actuators are the most versatile and by far the most popular solution for all types of the Series LFV

multipurpose testing machines.

Load CellThe dynamic testing systems are equipped with precision fatigue rated load cells for accurate force measurement and control. They are either mounted on actuators pis-ton rod end as required for component, fi n-ished goods or biomedical test applications or otherwise on upper crosshead / alignment fi xture.

Hydraulic Power SupplyThe dynamic performance of a particular Test System is governed by oil fl ow and pressure. The Series LFV with force capacities up to 50 kN and actuator on crosshead are availa-ble with in the machine base integrated pow-er supply with up to 8 l/min oil fl ow. For larg-er oil fl ows the full range of external power packs with ratings up to 500 l/min or even higher is available to suit your requirements. The power packs includes beside of the hy-draulic system also all electrical parts as in-dicators and system management buttons. As cooling systems air/oil cooler, water/oil cool-er or alternative closed loop re-cooler system are available.

Materials Testing SystemsDYNAMIC

TMF affects a range of components, including train wheels and brakes, aircraft and ship engines, components used in gas turbines for power generation and compressors for gas and oil pipelines.

International Standards

ASTM E2368-04Standard Practice for Strain Controlled TMF-Testing

• This practice covers the determination of thermo mechanical fatigue (TMF) properties of materials under uniaxially loaded strain-controlled conditions. A “thermo mechanical” fatigue cycle is here defi ned as a condition where uniform temperature and strain fi elds over the specimen gage section are simultaneously varied and independently controlled. This practice is intended to address TMF testing performed in support of such activities as materials research and development, mechanical design, process and quality control, product performance, and failure analysis. While this practice is specifi c to strain-control-led testing, many sections will provide useful information for force-controlled or stress-controlled TMF testing.

• This practice allows for any maximum and minimum values of temperature and mechani-cal strain, and temperature-mechanical strain phasing, with the restriction being that such parameters remain cyclically constant throughout the duration of the test. No re-strictions are placed on environmental factors such as pressure, humidity, environmental medium, and others, provided that they are controlled throughout the test, do not cause loss of or change in specimen dimensions in time, and are detailed in the data report.

• The use of this practice is limited to specimens and does not cover testing of full-scale components, structures, or consumer products.

European StandardThe International Organisation for Standardization (ISO) set up a working group to draft a TMF testing standard. Progress towards achieving a balanced document has been hampered be-cause of the lack of pre-normative R&D. The aim of this study is to coordinate EU input to the ISO working group and to provide the technical basis that will enable researchers to defi ne all test-related aspects of the draft standard.

APPLICATIONThermo-Mechanical Fatigue Testing - TMF

TMF is a major cause of component failure in industrial machinery and structures exposed to temperature conditions and mechanical loads that change over time.
