Best of Mumbai @night
Mumbai - the land of 2.5 crore people all come down on the streets Mondaythrough Satur day. This island city then seem to be reeling under the thump of5 crores of feet. So traveling down the city from eastern suburb to the maincity center then is almost impossible. The Arabian sea which runs all along the city on the western side does notseem so much
attractive during that time. The Mahim creek emits more foulsmell during day time. The majestic sea link looks more like a big python. Butsame city come in the night when most of the cars don't ply , majority ofpeople have reached home the city looks like a beautiful queen. The sea linksilently poses like long beautiful hair of the queen. The staunch smell of the Mahim creek is no longer unbearable. The smoothride all along the sea link becomes breezy and calm with salty smell of air.The Worli sea face which seem like a hot plate during day time becomes cooland pleasant at the night. Since evening
people from all walks of likeflockhere to enjoy the sea side view. From 10:30 PM theparking becomes free on the road sides so more people arrive on cars. On a high tidenight on Worli sea face one can spot beautiful white breasted sea birds dancing on thewaves in search of foods and the splashing of wave lashes white water on the seaside benches. The moon plays hide ans seek between the clouds. Some stars twinkle here and there
in the vast expanse of sky. As the evening progresses the Arabian sea further coolsdown bringing in more onlookers & walkers on the Worli sea face. Expensive cars plysilently amidst roaring motor cycles passes like wild boar on the roads. Sometimesarmored police vehicle moves past with huge siren breaking the usual silence. Onetwo VIP car moves quickly with colorful beacon lights on the top. Far out in the middleships move lazily with small lights overboard. Expensive couple alight from the equally expensive car , sitting on the bench light on acigarette each , smoke and go away. Children being free from the ramshackle of

parents run amock on the sea side causeway. While the doting mother runs after thekid the father relaxes on the bench. The head gear clad Muslim woman walks hand-in-hand with her male partner. The pet runs loose on the long stretch of Worli sea face. The road side peddlers try to coax you to buy tea , coffee or water. Occasional jogger will walk through the road in half pant and expensive shoes. Pretty woman walk incolorful truck suit and bandana.
All along the Worli sea face it will be a scenes of peace and playfulness. People lookhealthy and gorgeous. Going further upstream the intersection near Haji Ali looks deserted. Further upstreamcrossing the Antalia – the house of Ambanies reaching the arc of the Marine drive onecan see more people on the streets than cars - all heading for Marine Drive. Walking on this street here is more energizing than driving now. Of course in themorning the scene is quite different. Then it will be an endless procession of different
cars , all heading for the main city hub. All runs for money in the morning. Going further south towards the end of the necklace like Marine Drive , near theTrident hotel more people will be found on the street now. Horse drawn carriages areready for giving you a pleasure trip across the “queen's necklace”. On a Diwali night one can see the entire Marine Drive sky ablaze with fireworks everynow and then. The still sea too seem to have forgotten waving and looking at the manmade fireworks. You may shudder thinking that three years back on a similar still nightterrorist from Pakistan came along the sea and attacked Trident & Taj hotel.
Near Trident hotel the entire arc of Marine Drive can be seen in one frame. It bends allthe way from the Girgaum Choupatty upto the Queen's flyover , bends further near theAir India building and then ends at the Trident hotel. The superb view of the entirestretch looks majestic at night. The lazy sea splashes relentlessly at the causeway of the colonial Mumbai. Further south is Colaba where sea is integrated with land. It's no wonder whoever comes in this city falls in love of it. I wish I could stay in this
beautiful city till my last but that is not going to happen. I have to leave this city nowbecause I've been transferred....
