STANDARD ACCESSORIES AND OPTIONS

available to adapt Aquastore

tanks to their individual

shipped from the factory with

appropriate attachment hard-

ware, bolts or connections of

stainless steel or materials

that match the tank order.

Ladders & WalkwaysAquastore tank ladders areconstructed of aluminum rails andrungs with hot-dip galvanized cagesand step off platforms. A lockingsafety cage door is available.

VentilatorsAquastore tank ventilators are designed to allowfor air exchange during filling and emptying,and are equipped with corrosion-resistant birdand insect screens.

Optional Glass-Fused-To-Steel FloorsGlass-coated, bolted steel floors can protectthe tank integrity in certain local soilconditions. They can also significantly reducefoundation concrete requirements and simplifyinstallation in remote locations.

Sidewall ManwaysAquastore tank manways, designed in accor-dance with AWWA D103 Standards, are 24”,30” or 36” in diameter. They are constructed ofsteel that has been hot-dip galvanized.

When Engineered Storage

Products Company entered the

liquid storage market with

glass-fused-to-steel bolted

tanks in the 1970s,

the company already had years

of experience producing glass-

coated tanks for the agricultural

market. Environmental

concerns were creating new

demands for liquid storage

tanks. As this market expanded,

glass-fused-to-steel tanks

proved to be a preferred choice

for many applications. Today,

Aquastore® tanks are found in

virtually every segment of the

liquid storage market, storing

potable water, waste water,

process water, fire suppression

water and landfill leachate.

This complex of Aquastoretanks was erected in threephases. The project includestwo 143’ (43.59 m) diametertanks for effluent waterstorage and a wastewatertreatment plant with equal-ization tanks, a clarifierand an aeration tank.

The factory-applied silica glass

coating on Aquastore tanks

forms a hard, inert barrier for

both the interior and exterior

surfaces of the tank. It guards the

steel core against weather and

corrosion. The physical proper-

ties of the glass coating

are especially suited to

municipal/industrial

liquid storage applications.

Glass-fused-to-steel is

impermeable to liquids

and vapors, controls

undercutting causedby corrosion and

offers

excellent

impact and abra-

sion resistance. The

color won’t fade or

chalk, and most

graffiti can easily be

removed with paint solvents.

Two storage tanks are used fortreating process waste water ata brewery in the DominicanRepublic.

Lime is mixed with waste sludgein the two small Aquastore tanksat this Midwestern waste treatmentfacility. The sludge is then storedin the large Aquastore reservoirsfor eventual agricultural use.

This water treatment plantemploys two 120’ diameterx 15’ high (36.6 m x 4.57 m)Aquastore reservoirs and a36’ diameter x 52’ high(11 m x 15.9 m) Aquastorebackwash storage tank.

Our glass-fused-to-steel coatingprovides maximum performance,even in marine environments,such as this installation in theBahamas.

shipped on protective skids

domestically, with crated

At the jobsite, Aquastore

the top down with a jacking

system that progressively

elevates the structure. The

Automated sheet blasting,pre-coating and slip applicationproduce a uniform highperformance finish, sheet aftersheet, tank after tank.

After prep and precoating,panels are sprayed with aproprietary slip mixture andfired at over 1,500o F in anautomated, computer-controlled furnace.

Silica glass frit is speciallyformulated to produce thedistinctive cobalt blueAquastore glass coating.This material is ground andmixed with other ingredientsas the initial step inthe glassingprocess.

manufacturing plant houses

every stage of Aquastore pro-

duction. From processing of

raw steel, sheet surface prepara-

tion, hole punching and coating

application to packaging and

shipping, everything is accomp-

lished in house. In keeping with

its commitment to maintaining

high standards, our manufac-

turing facility is ISO 9001:2000

quality system certified.

Raw steel that is delivered to

the plant is tested for physical

properties, such as tensile

strength and elongation, and

chemically analyzed. After the

sheets have been cut and

rolled, the radius is checked for

accurate dimensional control.

The heart of the Aquastore

tank coating system is a multi-

step process for glass-fused-to-

steel. The sheets are steel grit

blasted to produce a clean,

rough surface, then inspected

and pre-coated. Borosilicate

glass compositions are ground,

blended with minerals and

clays, then mixed with water to

form a sprayable slurry called

slip. The slip is applied and the

wet film is checked for the proper

coating thickness.

The proprietary formulation of

borosilicate glass and minerals

is fused to the steel sheets at

temperatures above 1500o

Fahrenheit (815.5o C) to produce

the distinctive glossy Aquastore

tank coating. The molten glass

reacts with the steel surface to

form an inert, inorganic system

that is chemically and mechani-

cally bonded to the steel.

Engineered Storage Products’

proprietary Edgecoat™ process

flame sprays the edges with a

protective alloy. Glass is then

added to double coat regular

sheet edges with barrier coatings,

so that standard steel panels are

largely encapsulated in glass. For

some tanks, multiple applications

and firings produce specialized

coatings. Final checks are made

to assure color conformity and

finished coating thickness.

The other components of the

tank are subject to the same

exacting procedures. The bolts

for assembly are fabricated in

DeKalb. Inspection processes

are carried on throughout the

plant, extending to tensile

testing of our bolts and

continuous monitoring

of mechanically-galvanized

bolt coatings and the condition

of plastic bolt head encapsula-

tion. Even the sealant is

inspected on a batch-by-batch

basis. By the time the

Aquastore components are

crated, every part has been

quality confirmed.

Glass-fused-to-steel is

already a proven product.

Engineered Storage Products

continues to develop new

glass coating formulations

for specific functions. Our

Glass97™ interior tank wall

coating is a recent example.

Glass97 is formulated with

titanium dioxide, which

increases coating toughness

for potable water appli-

cations. Our traditional

cobalt blue coating and

Glass97 are both ANSI/NSF

Standard 61 certified for

contact with potable water.

Constant monitoring andtesting throughout thecoating process assures thehighest levels of quality.

State of the art engineer-ing software specificallydeveloped for tankanalysis controls a jobfrom design throughfabrication and erection.

A fully equipped in-house labprovides constant monitoring ofmaterials. Metallurgic testsinclude spectrographic analysis,tensile strength and Rockwellhardness. We monitor color,

thickness and continuity of coatings.Sealants are tested for conformity ona batch basis. Bolts are tested fortensile strength, polypropylenecopolymer encapsulation andmechanical galvanizing.
