Commissioner, Nagar NigamIt gives me immense pleasure to write
that Udaipur has been selected amongst the 20
smart cities of this country by the Ministry of Urban
Development, Government of India. The city of
Lakes Udaipur has a legend behind its origin.
Udaipur is known for its picturesque surroundings
and royal past. Various ancient monuments massive
palaces, architectural temples, heritage properties
and beautiful lakes fascinate worldwide tourists to
visit this historic city.
The Vision document of Smart City was
titled Eternal Udaipur: World’s Favourite Lakeside
Heritage City. I thank the able leadership and
guidance of Principal Secretary, LSG, Divisional

Commissioner and District Collector. The Nagar
Nigam has formulated a strong proposal with the
involvement of the Urban Improvement Trust and
all Government line departments and overwhelming
public participation from all sectors and
stakeholders including travel and tourism industry
representatives.
It is also encouraging to note that the
Smart City initiative of Udaipur has also generated
interest from Denmark and bodies like FICCI and
International Council for Local Environmental
Initiatives (ICLEI). We are confident of achieving
the vision of smart city.

AMRUT MissionAtal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation(AMRUT) is proposed to provide basic services (e.g. water supply,sewerage, urban transport) to households and build amenities incities which will improve the quality of life for all, especially thepoor and the disadvantaged .
THRUST AREA
The Mission will focus on the following Thrust Areas:
� Water supply� Sewerage facilities and septage management, � Storm water drains to reduce flooding,
Pedestrian, non-motorized and public transport facilities, parking � Pedestrian, non-motorized and public transport facilities, parking spaces.
� Enhancing amenity value of cities by creating and upgrading green spaces, parks and recreation centers, especially for children

SMART CITY� Introduction � The Prime Minister launched the flagship Smart City Mission, along with
the AMRUT (Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation)and the ‘Housing for All’ missions, on 25th June 2015, aimed attransforming urban India. There is a strong complementarity betweenAMRUT and the Smart Cities Mission in achieving urbantransformation. While AMRUT follows a project-based approach, theSmart Cities Mission follows an area-based strategy.
� Smart City Mission� The Smart City Mission is primarily targeted to provide core
infrastructure and give a decent quality of life, a clean and sustainableenvironment and application of ‘Smart’ Solutions. The focus of themission is on sustainable and inclusive development. The Mission willcover 100 cities distributed amongst the States and UTs and its durationwill be five years (FY2015-16 to FY 2019-20). The criteria for allocationwill be five years (FY2015-16 to FY 2019-20). The criteria for allocationof number of Smart Cities per state are based on the urban populationand number of statutory towns in the respective state.

SMART CITYThe 3 key elements that are unique to this mission as compared to the previous urban reform programmes are:
� Challenge or competition method to select cities for funding. � Strategy of area-based development, which can then be replicated� Citizen’s involvement from conceptualization stage till the end
Citizens Engagement The strategy was focused to engage all segments i.e. men, women and children at home, public places, institutions and work places through personal, in-group’s and media contacts. All key stakeholders –residents/elected representative, civic authorities, industrial / trader organizations were mobilized and actively engaged to dialogue and describe their views on long term vision and the top of mind five and describe their views on long term vision and the top of mind five priorities for improving quality of life.

Monthly News � UMC Community Center turned into Passport Seva
Kendra:-
The community center at Patho ki Magri is now officially known as PSK (Passport Sewa Kendra) Bhawan. A signed agreement between Udaipur Municipal Corporation and Foreign Corporation and Foreign Ministry was held on 30thMarch.
• Inauguration of Rajasthan’s first bird’s park :-
The bird park has been set up with a cost of 11.5 crores. Home Minister Shri GulabchandKataria and Forests, Environment and Mines Minister RajkumarRinwa the ground breaking ceremony and unveiled the foundation board and the bird park and a map overview of the proposed model.
