do anything to get the scoop! Sometimes, he’s accompanied by fellow reporters…especially if there is

a potential for a story to break out.

*IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS: Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. To figure out who will be a ‘definite RSVP’, it is highly suggested to send a ‘save the date’ email out to your prospective guests way in advance of the party date so you can either eliminate those guests from your list who can’t make it (and therefore you will not assign them to a character) or you can change your party date if enough required-character guests simply cannot make it. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as any of the ‘required’ guests could cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in any combination that you choose. The optional players have the same materials and same basic participation level, but these optional characters are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and therefore for the mystery to be sleuthed appropriately. What happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take

a deep breath…it’s not the end of the world.

1. If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll need to switch characters. Hopefully, this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her costume ready. However, you can allow them to wear the costume that they purchased or created, as their nametag will let the other guests know whom they are playing during the party.

Get ready for an elegant night of murder and mayhem with your purchase of the THE ABBY MANOR MASQUERADE BALL game from MyMysteryParty.com! This party is an entertaining mystery where the players act the roles of intriguing personalities while sleuthing the mysterious story line. This mystery is for ages 14+— age minimum is for difficulty and the ability to relate to the characters. The mystery is not too difficult, but it is challenging enough to keep your guests intrigued while sleuthing the fun story line. PREPARING THE KIT: This document needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues, slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round and you can purchase the exact amount needed for your game on the http://www.mymysteryparty.com site in the Mystery Prop Emporium section. For economy’s sake, an alternative is to scroll the clues and fasten with a ribbon. Be sure to label the outside of each scroll with the character/round. In these instructions, however, we will assume you are using the envelope method for each character, each round. Our ‘How to Host’ video demonstrates how to prepare these in both of these methods on the My Mystery Party channel on YouTube, or you can access this video on our website in the ‘How to Host and FAQ’ section & on the front home page of our site.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

The game is organized into four rounds and is structured as follows: OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS & STARTERS: these optional pre-game starters and task sheets are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game materials are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These starters and tasks are not vital to solving the mystery and omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way.

Create a masquerade ball ambiance with a Phantom of the Opera soundtrack CD playing softly and the Phantom of the Opera movie playing in the background without the audio if there is a television in the party room. Make a DVD of pictures of you and your guest to play like a slideshow during your party (optional). Great colors for a masquerade ball are majestic purple and gold, or maybe a royal red theme. All senses come into play with your guests during the party – sight, touch, smell, taste, and sound – so you want to aim to captivate all senses so your guests have a memorable time. HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MYSTERY PARTY GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

You’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most awesome masquerade costume and have been told to play your role. Now what? The mystery is separated into three main rounds of party play. During the party, you will receive an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for the characters at the party provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to get the whole picture of what has happened.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing an ‘ill-mannered optometrist,’ then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. Some characters are designed to be played more reserved than other characters. Feel free to play your role in any manner that you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other guests to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME STARTER CARDS Cut the task strips out below and slip them into envelopes. Below on the pre-game task sheets, fill in your guests’ preferred contact information (i.e. email, phone) so they will be able to contact each other. IMPORTANT: If any of the optional players are not being played in your game, write ‘DISREGARD THIS TASK’ in the contact information space.

CHARACTER A OPTIONAL - for some pre-party fun, you can contact (email, phone, etc.) the following guests in the week leading up to the party: Contact the guest playing Jackey T. Pressen and ask him/her what happened to your fur coat. There are holes everywhere and all you asked for was summer storage. Did Jackey store it on the floor in a warehouse somewhere—with maybe some rat food smeared all over it?! (Contact info :________________________________________________________________) Contact the guest playing Cheque´ Penne and tell him your bank accounts are not adding up and you feel you should have more money than the statements are reflecting. You want to make an appointment to go over this with him first thing on Monday morning. (Contact info :________________________________________________________________) Please note: either contacting the guests above or deciding to skip these tasks will not alter the mystery or anyone's ability to solve the mystery in anyway. However, contacting other guests will lead to excitement about the party and will encourage other guests to read about the other characters and be prepared for some completely mysterious fun!

ROUND ONE CLUES – cut out, slip into envelopes and label with the character and round.

CHARACTER B – ROUND ONE CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND

During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss the following information with whomever you choose: • Talk to everyone about anything they can tell you about a possible story. You will do absolutely anything to

get the scoop…even hand over some ‘change’ if they know what you mean. • Talk about how there might be a story with the ongoing fight over the estate of Yuna Verz and Sherlock

Tracy’s late grandmother. Those two have nearly spent as much money in lawyers’ fees and investigators as is in the inheritance for each of them.

• Confide in a few people about how Bameril Lacrosse is actually a dangerous chef. You have firsthand knowledge of his food practices in the kitchen and if he didn’t have personal assistants…he would definitely make his customers sick. His assistants make sure that he doesn’t leave things out too long or cross contaminate things in the kitchen. You can only imagine what he was like when he first started out as a chef—before he had assistants watching out for his interests! The only reason you haven’t reported this is nothing detrimental has happened—his assistants take care of everything for him!

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL • You will do absolutely anything to get a story - be on your toes! • If Tele gets a promotion, you think you are next in line—so you have a vested interest in him getting a big

scoop and getting a promotion!

ROUND TWO CLUES – cut out, slip into envelopes and label with the character and round.

CHARACTER N – ROUND TWO PRE-MURDER CLUES: • Admit that maybe a couple of your husbands died of an accidental poisoning that might have been your

fault. You had a bottle of a special fast-acting poison and it might have spilled into the lemonade a time or two….but it was purely an accident.

• Tell a few people that your antique ring fell into the ice drawer earlier and you had to fish it out. Oops! • Ask Bameril Lacrosse if he is still handing out foodborne illnesses. You’ve not had a foodborne illness

since you got a new personal chef! You hope his fame and fortune have afforded him some rigorous food safety courses. You cannot believe he attended such prestigious culinary schools as he put on his resume and is so careless. You hope the guests of his five-star restaurants aren’t getting ill!

POST-MURDER CLUES: You did leave the ballroom tonight and it was about 29 minutes ago, but you returned only after a couple of

minutes. You needed a little fresh air. You know that Pepper Keegrip was not in the ballroom during the time that the murder occurred. Cheque Penne looks guilty. You’re not sure if he was in the ballroom during the time of the murder, but if

he wasn’t – he will be a suspect in your eyes – he is one shady individual. You know for sure that Yuna Verz didn’t leave the ballroom tonight. If the victim died by poison, you might definitely be the murderer!

THE VICTIM SIGN – POST-MURDER ROUND TWO. Cut it out and place it under the sink during this round with the other evidence.

Example Timeline

7:00 PM: Guests arrive, have their pictures made and enjoy appetizers. Have the guest instructions, and a

character list available for the guests to view.

7:10 PM: The host goes over the instructions for the mystery game. It is optional to have each character

stand up and introduce themselves to the group. You can play the game trailer video for an introduction.

There are also fun news articles on the Your Mystery Party page that you can print and display.

7:20 PM: The Round One envelopes are handed out. The guests mingle and discuss the clues on their clue

cards. Motives for murder will start to unfold during this round.

7:50 PM: An optional bonus game is played.

8:05 PM: Dinner is served. (Dinner is optional – appetizers / snacks can be served throughout the party instead of

serving a formal dinner.) The Fantastic Movie Challenge is played at this time &/or during dinner.

8:45 PM: Round Two envelopes are handed out, and the guests mingle about with their pre-murder clues.

9:05 PM The host reads the results of the movie challenge and the victim, using this as a secret cue,

becomes the victim. The investigation of the crime begins. *If the movie challenge is skipped, the host will need to

cue the victim when it is time to become the victim (see host instructions). The mystery investigation sheets & a

writing utensil are handed out, and the guests reveal their post-murder clues and investigate the crime.

9:15 PM: The fingerprint report is revealed. The guests review it and finalize their best guess of whodunit.

9:20 PM The investigation sheets (guesses of whodunit) are turned in to the host, and the host allows the

guests to one at a time accuse who they believe did it.

9:30 PM: Dessert and coffee (both optional) are served and the Round Three envelopes are handed out to the

guests. The guests sit in a circle and one-by-one, the solutions are revealed by each suspect and the murderer

confesses at the end.

9:50 PM: Allow time for the guests to mingle at the end to discuss the mystery. If you only had the required

players read their solutions, use this time for your guests to mingle & share their solutions to the mystery. You

can use this time to get ready for the awards ceremony (optional).

10:00 PM: Now it would be time for an optional awards ceremony &/or even a bonus game! *Please note: if you want to shorten the mystery party, omit the bonus games, don’t stop for dinner and simply serve appetizers/snacks throughout, omit the accusation round &/or the awards ceremony. If you wish to extend the length of the party, simply add more bonus games!
