General Info:
Muscles of the face originate on the surface of the skull and insert into the dermis of the skin…when the muscles contract, the skin moves
Largest group of facial muscles are associated with the mouth
Buccinator (“trumpet player”)
Region: cephalic/mouthAction: compresses cheeks towards
teeth Ex: playing a trumpet
Orbicularis oris
Region: cephalic/mouthAction: compresses, purses lips
Ex: kissing
Depressor anguli oris
Region: cephalic/mouthAction: depresses corner of mouth
Ex: frowning
Zygomaticus
Region: cephalic/mouthAction: draws corner of mouth
upward Ex: smiling
Orbicularis oculi
Region: cephalic/eyeAction: closes eye
Ex: blinking, squinting
Frontalis
Region: cephalic/scalpAction: raises eyebrow, wrinkles

hyoid and/or depresses mandible Actually forms the floor of the oral cavity
