Museo del Acero Horno 3 Monterrey, Mexico A historical building restored, an industrial story brought to life Blast Furnace No. 3 dominates Monterrey’s skyline, a symbol of the community’s steel industry and the heart of the city’s popular Parque Fundidora. The goal of the project was to showcase the historical significance of steelmaking to Monterrey while motivating younger visitors to explore the applied and theoretical sciences foundational to the industry. APA designed a multi-gallery visitor experience that is one part science center, one part museum and one part high-drama thrill, all within the spatial context of the refurbished blast furnace. The experience culminates in the dramatic multimedia Furnace Show, which brings the central blast furnace to life. APA worked with Museo to develop a strategy and architectural program for refurbishing the building. Our firm also established the exhibit concept and interpretive themes, produced detailed design documentation, and managed exhibit fabrication and installation, delivering an interpretive experience that has re-established Horno 3 as Monterrey’s central attraction.
