Space Proposal:- Archivist’s office/workspace- Reading room/library- Archival Storage - Museum oversize & Storage

Alterations Required:- Installation of sprinkler system up & down stairs- Partition walls- HVAC upgrades- Outlets - Internet & phone connections- Rolling shelves- Table & chairs for reading room

Personnel Items:- 1 Staff Person (Archivist) + Temporary- Reduction in public hours – probably 4 days a week,

12-5 = 20 hrs/wk

Pros:- Large area- Needs minor alterations- Already owned by town- Near to museum/still downtown- Accessible(ish)- No impact on operational costs (utilities)

Cons: - Historic wooden building – fire risk- Flood risk- Reduction of public hours- Poor visibility – out of the way location- Cost of upgrades- Renovation domino effect- user impact

Exhibits & Collections Care:

Curator attended the Truth and Reconciliation: Calls to Action meeting that was held at Sagitawa on September 7th. In this meeting, attendees discussed design, text and location of the new Treaty 8 monument in Peace River.

Curator attended the Spirit of the Peace Meeting that was held in La Crete, Alberta on September 10th.

Curator was invited to facilitate a Blanket Exercise at Glenmary School on September 13th.

Collections is going through past ledgers and filling in missing information into the database.

Collections is continuing to record artifact information in new ledger. The Curator attended the Digital Marketing Workshop on September 17th, this proved to

be quite the wealth of knowledge! Curator attended the first PRAIC meeting of the season on the 18th of September. The restorage of all lapel pins will occur in the next month or two

Programming:

The Peace River Museum, Archives and Mackenzie Centre partnered with the Boreal Research Institute and hosted a very successful Archeology in the Boreal Forest with information about archaeology in the Peace Country. We filled our chairs with 26 people!

The Whiskey Tasting went very well, starting with baking on the 14th of September and the event hosted on the 15th.

Governance:

Laura Love was elected to sit on the Alberta Museum Association Board.

From the 19th to the 23rd, the Curator and Heritage Coordinator attended the Alberta Museum Association Conference: Cultivating Connections: Museums and the Environment in Canmore. At this conference we explored and celebrated sustainable practises at the museum level in all facets, and how we interact with the environment in different ways. We took back lots of ideas, and information to start to familiar ourselves with and hopefully implement here as the environment continues to change around us. (It was great!)

Exhibits & Collections Care:

Curator attended the Sisters in Spirit Walk on October 4th, 2018, there were approx. 150 people that attended the walk and we look forward to hopefully seeing more people next year.

Curator hosted the Heritage Places Committee Board meeting at the museum on October 9th, 2018

Attended the Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Sub-Committee Meeting at Town Hall on October 13th, 2018, as well as set up for the Fall Fibre Arts event at the Historic NAR Station that morning. There was also a follow up meeting with the TRC Sub-Committee on the 19th of October that Curator also attended.

Attended PRAIC meeting on the 16th of October, as well as hosted a ‘Tea with Laura Gloor’ event to congratulate Laura on her very prestigious Lieutenant Governor Award.

The curator attended Greg’s Tech Talk and will be continuing to attend until the sessions have completed.

Began the re-inventory of stone tools, lanceolate points, geological collection, and paleontological collection, these items will be moving

4 new requests bringing YTD to 72. Three very large donations were received this month which has now put the archives

Programming:

The museum once again took part in the Sisters in Spirit walk on October 4th. More than 150 took part.

Fall Fibre Arts show ran on October 13-14th and was a great success. More vendors and 50 people made it a fun weekend out.

21 students and chaperones from Bear Canyon School visited the museum to learn more about the early days of habitation and fur trade in the Peace Region.

Governance:

Worked on completing 2019 budget by end of month. Sat down with Tanya and went over plans. Still a few small points needing sorting.

Completed the Alberta Museum Association’s Registered Museum’s Program to gain accreditation from the AMA. Heritage Coordinator was also asked to sit on the jury for this process, which will happen in February.

Looking Forward

The Peace River Museum was asked to help with the 7th Day Adventist Church Women’s Gala theme ‘Vintage Travel,’ on November 23rd.

Human Rights Training November 8th, at the Town Office Curator was asked to help facilitate a community Blanket Exercise at the Peace River

Municipal Library on November 7th, 2018 Museum Board meeting at the museum on the 21st of November, at 7pm
