Lasers and EOCM Division
2 Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Proprietary Information
• MUSIC® is a fiber laser-based Directed Infra Red Countermeasure
(DIRCM) system that protects aircraft against ground to air heat
seeking missiles
• MUSIC® rapidly detects, tracks and jams the incoming missile
• MUSIC® can be installed on helicopters, transport aircraft, tankers,
business jets and commercial aircraft

DIRCM Test Stages
• Simulations
• Flight Table
• Flight Tests for laser measurements
• Flight Tests with captive seekers
• Qualification testing
• Live Fire tests
6 Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Proprietary Information
Simulations
• System operational simulation under conditions of:
– aircraft motion
– vibration
– missile ranges
– missile dynamics
• The output of the simulations is the accuracy and distribution
of the laser beam position on the missile seeker.
7 Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Proprietary Information
Flight Table
• Installation of the DIRCM turret on a flight table, acquiring and
tracking a simulated target under the dynamic conditions
relevant to various aircraft.
• The output is the accuracy, power and modulation quality of
the laser beam on the simulated target.
8 Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Proprietary Information
Flight Tests
• Installation of the DIRCM system on a test helicopter type
BO-105
• This was selected because it provides a worst case vibration
scenario
• Acquiring and tracking a simulated target over different
ranges and flight paths.
• The test result is the accuracy, power and modulation quality
of the laser beam on the target.

Flight Tests with Seekers
• Repeat of the flight test using captive missile seekers.
• The seekers are locked on to the signature of the helicopter.
• The DIRCM system is triggered and the time to break lock of
the missiles is measured.
• This test is performed with a number of different seekers
15 Elbit Systems Electro-Optics Proprietary Information
DIRCM Qualification
• Qualification was performed for environmental conditions that
are the maximum of the requirements for rotary and propeller
fixed wing aircraft

Summary
• The MUSIC® DIRCM system has completed development and
will conclude its test program later this year
• Installation of systems on a variety of military platforms will
start next year
• The C-MUSIC™ system for commercial aircraft will be
available in the near future
