Cherelle McClaffety Music Magazine Questionnaire Results In order to create an ideal front cover for my music magazine for a specific target audience, I have created a questionnaire to discover the typical characteristics that appeals more to my target audience. As my magazine will be aimed at teenagers and young adults, the majority of answers for my questionnaire were from 16-25 year olds. 90% were aged 16-25 and 10% wee aged 36-50. I also asked more females than males, as 60% of my results were from females and 40% were from males. This bar graph shows my results I received when I asked people about their interest. A majority of people I asked were interested in TV and music, whereas gaming and acting weren’t as popular. These results are helpful as I know now what is most likely to appeal to my target audience and what aspects of interest I shall include in my music magazine front cover. I also asked what kind of occupation they had, and my results are evident in this pie chart. As scene, 80% were students. This means my magazine will be specifically created to target students. There were also 10% of teachers, which means the magazine would have to contain a certain degree of maturity, and 10% were hairdressers, meaning my magazine will also need to appeal to a working-class audience. This pie chart shows that only a mere 30% of my replies purchase music magazines. Music Magazine Questionnaire Results

In order to create an ideal front cover for my music magazine for a specific target audience, I have created a questionnaire to discover the typical

characteristics that appeals more to my target audience. As my magazine will be aimed at teenagers and young adults, the majority of answers for my

questionnaire were from 16-25 year olds. 90% were aged 16-25 and 10% wee aged 36-50. I also asked more females than males, as 60% of my results were from females and 40%

were from males.

This bar graph shows my results I received when I asked people about their interest. A majority of people I asked were interested in TV and music, whereas gaming and acting weren’t as popular.

These results are helpful as I know now what is most likely to appeal to my target audience and what

aspects of interest I shall include in my music magazine front cover.

I also asked what kind of occupation they had, and my results are evident in this pie chart. As scene, 80% were students.

This means my magazine will be specifically created to target students. There were also 10% of teachers, which means the magazine

would have to contain a certain degree of maturity, and 10% were hairdressers, meaning my magazine will also need to appeal to a working-class audience.

This pie chart shows that only a mere 30% of my replies purchase music magazines. This is most likely due to technological convergence.

As 70% do not purchase music magazines I will have to try and make my magazine more

appealing and tempting to my target audience to influence them to buy my magazine.

I asked people what genre of music they listen to so that I gain an

understanding of what type of music magazine will appeal more to

my audience. According to my results, 25% listen to Indie, Pop and Rock, making them

the most popular genres of music. However, not many people like genres such as R&B and dance, so my magazine will focus on the preferred genres of music for my audience.

When I asked if they went to gigs, 80% replied yes. This means that my magazine will be have to appeal to music fans who like going to gigs – I would include things

such as tour dates etc. as this will appeal a lot to my target audience. 20% replied that

they don’t go to gigs, which means that that specific article would not appeal to

them.

I asked how often they go to concerts to get an idea of how outgoing my target audience is. This will allow me to base my magazine on the general audience that I am hoping to appeal to, as I will

be able to include articles about concerts, tours, gigs etc. which I now know are the kind of things that my target audience are interested in, as 88% go to a gig more than once a year, and 25% go twice or thrice.

I asked people what magazines they had heard of and 10 out of 10 had heard of Kerrang! Magazine and Q magazine. This means that these are

very well know magazines for my target audience, and also suggests that these magazines contain

features that appeal to my target audience. As only 4 people had heard of Vibe magazine, then I will be

focusing more on the popular magazines for inspiration and ideas to incorporate for my own

magazine.

40% of my target audience preferred the Kerrang! Magazine cove, and on

30% preferred the NME cover, which is the same for the Q cover. This means that Kerrang! Front covers are more

appealing to my target audience, and I will most likely aspire to have a front cover for my magazine with a similar effect as the Kerrang! Magazine so as

to appeal to my target audience.

This market research has helped me to gain an understanding of what my target audience are most likely to be appealed to. By knowing more about my target

audience I am now able to create a more effect music magazine for my audience that will influence them to buy my magazine. I will include genres that my

audience prefer, as well as create a magazine cover with features that my target audience liked on front covers. This will allow me to create a magazine that will

appeal to my target audience.
