The picture the lead singer of a band called green day. The magazine colour scheme is based on the band name with green at the top filling the unwanted space. This will show that the magazine is mainly about this band as they have dedicated the magazine to match the band. He isn’t making eye contact which shows he is concentrating on his performance and he is dedicated to his work. This will tell the reader that Green Day are a hard working band who love their music which will give them a glimpse of the article already. Also there are little snippets of articles on the cover to reveal what's inside the magazine

The title is big and bold to clearly state what the magazine is called. The masthead connotation is that it makes the magazine big, important and portrays the content of the magazine to be as big and important. When really it is just a an abbreviation of the title “New Musical Express”.

There a competitions along the edges of the magazine that big enough that you can see them but not too big that they fill the page. At the top there are free posters to give the customer a glimpse of what your really paying for. All of these will give the reader an added interest for the magazine as free things or a chance to win will make the reader continue through the magazine as they will want to have free thing in the magazine. It will encourage them to buy the magazine only for the ‘Free’ stuff but really it’s added onto the price

The puff that goes along with the picture matches the colour scheme also. This will help show that importance of the text as it is a pair with the main picture. This will show that the text is important and makes the readers read it as it is the biggest on the cover.

At the bottom it tells you the posters with the magazine to show what you get for you money. Finally there are little snippets of articles along with matching images on the cover to reveal what's inside the magazine. All of these will give the reader an added interest for the magazine as free things or a chance to win will make the reader continue through the magazine as they will want to have free thing in the magazine. The picture is in the centre of the page which gives it importance and a bigger status. Also it goes slightly over the masthead which shows that the picture could be more important than the title which will state that the picture is all the magazine is really about. The magazine theme is ‘Cool Britannia’ which is why they are wearing united kingdom flags. This shows they are proud to be British and a writing and playing for every English band out there.

The text of the main picture matches the band as this keeps to one colour scheme. It also mentions other bands within the pictures category to show what's also in the magazine without taking up different space. This connotation will show that they are in competition and wanting to beat each other when really the denotation is that they are doing a gig together and are working together.

At the bottom of the cover tit tells you that Q review albums, gigs, films and dvds. This shows that I they review other company's products then their own product must be up to a high standard to show that the reviews are reliable. The connotation of it would be that the reviews are spectacular and must be great and trust worthy when really then denotation is that Q just review things. Finally there are little snippets of articles along with matching images on the cover to reveal what's inside the magazine.
