We chose the track ‘Dead Side’ by local Alternative Metal band Quad Damage because…

# One of the members of our group performs in the band

# It’s the band’s most popular track, which in turn could broaden the audience for our music video (from Quad Damage’s library)

# The lyrics in the song are symbolic of the same ideology that the concept of our music video portrays

# The tone of the music is dark which is also mirrored in the video concept

# The band already has a following which helps us with audience feedback – It also promotes the band

Early Brainstorms for Track Selection

When selecting a track to create the video around we considered different genres of music that our group members listened to – Ranging from Ambient Music, Hip-Hop, Electronic Music and Heavy Metal.

After much discussion, we concluded that we would use Daniel’s (a group member) band Quad Damage for our track and then we had to decide what track to use.

Initially we strongly considered using the band’s eponymous track, and had a completely different video concept planned featuring extreme violence. We then discussed it further and thought up a different concept based off a 1980’s sci-fi film which we thought we could do a lot more with in terms of shots and scenes.

TRACK TIMELINE

Quiet intro, slow soft guitar with sample from film

Chorus, big, slow and heavy, no vocals

Verses, leading to pre-choruses, calm at first but then build in intensity and loudness, screamed vocals

Bridge riff, no vocals from this point

Guitar solo compliments bridge riff

Eerie feedback rings out as outro

Ending chorus, more intense than previous

RISK ASSESSMENT

We did not face many risks in the production of our music video, other than cables on the floor during the recording of the performance shots which we potentially could have tripped over and hurt ourselves, so we tucked them out of the way. Other than that we faced no trouble in regards to health and safety, or even tempted it.
