Where did April go? What a great start to our busiest months of the year! Our first Cruise Night at our new location was a huge success! We had more than 150 cars, Fireside BBQ ran out of BBQ, Villa Capri enjoyed selling brats and gourmet hot dogs, and the weather even cooperated! A big thanks to Rick, Scott and the rest of the Cruise Night Committee, Don Lavery and family for providing the great sound system and generator, as well as Sandy and Dan for setting up and manning the Welcome Table! The Committee is already preparing for ways to improve our Cruise Night, including Sponsor Plaques for the cars our Sponsors like the best! April also included National Mustang Day, a national celebration of the Mustangs 52nd birthday. Dan came up with a super way to celebrate, which began with a Show & Shine at the Kansas City Automotive Museum, a cruise to our General Meeting including Mus- tang birthday cake for everyone, and then cruising to Twisters to enjoy dinner with Club members. What an awesome day! It was great to have so many new and old members come out and enjoy the party! As president, I try to attend as many of the committee meetings each month as possi- ble. In addition to eating, I always enjoy seeing how various members find ways to get involved and bring some awesome ideas! I also enjoy sitting watching some of our other members run the meetings and find ways to engage others in their committee. I would encourage each of you to check out our club calendar for upcoming committee meetings and plan on attending. The Annual Car Show, MCA 2017 Grand National, and Wounded Warrior Family Support High Five Tour committees are three great examples of commit- tees that need your thoughts and ideas! May offers one of our best examples of how our club gives back. Mark Raab and his High Five Tour Committee are in the final weeks of planning for the High Five Tour stops in Kansas City over Memorial Day and 9/11 weekends. The High Five Tour actually be- gins in Topeka and Lawrence on May 27th with a procession of Mustangs escorting the Shelby GT350 from Cabelas to Laird Noller Ford in Topeka. This stop will include an op- portunity to eat lunch at Henrys BBQ, then saddle up and cruise over to Laird Noller Ford in Lawrence. May 28th includes stops at Blue Springs Ford, which includes a Show & Shine and May 29-30th will feature the return to the Walk of Honor at the National WWI Museum. Finally, one other opportunity to display your Mustang will be on June 1st at MetLife, one of the High Five Tours largest sponsors. Our Annual Car Show is June 25th at the Olathe Bass Pro Shops. Jeff and his Show Committee have been working hard ever since the conclusion of last year s show to make this years show one of the best. It offers our members the opportunity to enter their car in a regional car show without having to travel a long distance or incur travel expenses. This year we will use the same MCA judging criteria allowing entrants a preview of how their car will be scored at an MCA National Car Show, such as the MCA Grand National Car Show being hosted by our club in August 2017. We also recommend members bring their car out Friday evening and enjoy hospitality night. Our Annual Car Show includes some of our Clubs best cars! Its a great opportunity to bring out the family and get to know your fellow members. I hope to see you there! Meeting Minutes—April April 17, 2016. The meeting was called to order at 5:00 PM by Club Pres-ident Ed Mardiat. Ed welcomed every-one to the “National Mustang Day” meeting and thanked Dan Bentch and everyone who set up and participated in the show-n-shine at the KCAM.

Board of Director Reports Past President, R.J. Coberly, Annual Show Sponsorship: the annual show budget was generated with sponsorship income of $3,100. To date, we have gained $4,200 in potential sponsorships. RJ went over the list of new sponsors for 2016. GN Committee meeting will be later this month and RJ will have new sponsorship package to present for ap-proval. Once approved, we will forward to MCA. Thank you, R.J., for the excel-lent work in organizing and gaining sponsorships! Secretary, (Jan Somerville) by Nona Hernandez: the March General Club minutes stand as revised to include ad-ditions for the proceeds from the 50-50 Raffle, won by Ed Mardiat and the East-er Basket proceeds, winning bid by Lorne Willard, both going to Children’s Mercy. Treasurer, (George Stegner) given by RJ Coberly: Report was given and accepted. The treasurer started the separate Grand National (GN) checking account. This separate account will pro-vide a complete and separate account-ing for the GN. It will be easy to present this to MCA at the end of the GN – with-out exposing all of our club financial da-ta to MCA. Vice President, Nona Hernandez: No report. Show Director, Jeff Daniels: The co-ordinators of annual show support activi-ties are progressing nicely on their usual tasks. Budget looks good. We will have a 1966 GT 350 and a 2016 GT 350 Mustang right at the show entrance, as a special display to match our dash plaques. Sign up to help the committee in our volunteer book. This will help make a great foundation for our GN Show and is a good way for new club members to learn. Contact RJ or Jeff if you have prospective sponsors for the show. Jeff personally handed out regis-tration forms to members. He urged MCGKC members to register and pay their entry fees at the general meeting. Our ad is in the Mustang Times. 20% of net proceeds go to Children’s Mercy.

Page 4

100% of net proceeds from 2017 GN Show will go to Children’s Mercy. Social Directors, Don and Linda Lank-ard: The social report was given with details to be included in the monthly newsletter. Members at Large Dan Bentch: Dan thanked Rick & Deb Lage, the Lavery family, Don & Linda Lankard and Sandy Bentch for all their help in organizing our National Mustang Day events. Dan has a few National Mustang Day clings left if you didn’t get one. Rick Hernandez: We have 9 charities on the list and will not accept additions at this time. The Board will narrow this list down to 4; we will give information in the June newsletter about the 4, and we will vote at the June meeting to select 2. The 2 finalists will each receive $250 at the end of the year.

Committees Membership, George and Joy Stegner (by Ed Mardiat): New members were announced and those attending their first meeting were introduced. With these additions, we now have 205 members. Scott Shaffer was thanked and recog-nized for the extensive work he’s been doing on the cruise night dash plaques, annual show awards and dash plaques and the 2017 GN Show artwork! Cheryl Younger was thanked and recognized for her past work at the Welcome table. MCA GN 2017, Jim Peterson: GN Committee is making progress. George Stegner took “Save the Date” 2017 GN flyers to Jacksonville to distribute at the MCA show. MCA Representative, Doye Ewert: No report. Head Judge and Club Sales, Jack Bosic: The clinic at Ed ’s on April 9 went well. Jack announced Judges’ Training 10 AM, May 14

th at Lorne’s. At

the May clinic, you’ll have a chance to judge cars and compare your results to pre-judged sheets. George Stegner will hold a detailing clinic, and afterward, we will eat pizza. Please sign up. Club sales: the blue hats are in and ready to purchase; the red caps are back-ordered. These are made in the USA. Welcome Table, Sandy Bentch: Need volunteers to sign up to work the annual show at Bass Pro. Cruise Night, Rick Lage: Approxi-mately 150 cars attended our first cruise on April 9

th. Both restaurants were

packed; the BBQ ran out. The club thanks Don Lavery, for bringing his gen-erator, which handled our power needs. We will have the Chevelle Club as guest car club in May and the Weston Moon-shiners Club as future guests. The com-

mittee is putting together a budget and plans to offer 4 awards (3 sponsor, 1 club) at cruise nights very soon. More details to come. Road Trip Coordinator, Grace Bosic: The rooms for the Indy trip will be final-ized by 4/30/16. Grace is also looking into organizing a road trip for the Tulsa show Sep 23

Old Business

MCA Membership: Ed encourages all club members to join MCA. This will help in preparation for the upcoming GN Show in 2017.

Cruise Night: Ed discussed behavior and expectations when entering, attending, and leaving cruise night and any club sponsored event.

New Business

Bret Miller 1T Foundation: Nona Her-nandez advised that Bret Miller and his Mother, Peggy will be guest speakers at the May general club meeting. Bret is a local young man who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 24, and it’s his mission to get the word out. A documen-tary of his story, “Men Can Get Breast Cancer, Too,” is being made. He has received the “Model of Courage – Warri-or in Pink” Award from Ford, who also did a video of his story and has made many national TV appearances. This is a local organization. They will speak for the first 15 minutes of the meeting, and will not stay for the meeting. Once they depart, club members can vote on the charity for this year’s Pink Cruise. WWFS: Nancy Pilney spoke about the many signup sheets and work to be han-dled around the WWFS weekend events coming up Memorial Day Weekend. The weekend begins on Friday, May 27 with a trip to Laird Noller Ford dealerships in Topeka, and Lawrence. We will caravan with the GT 350 from Cabelas in KCK. We will lunch at Henry’s (in the H-D mu-seum) in Topeka prior to traveling to Lawrence. Ed will bring the GT 350, named “Miss Divine K” (after the wife of a UAW Chair) back to KC at the end of the first day. They will ask for a $5 do-nation to sign the car.

Judging

May 14th at 10:00 AM at Lorne Willard's home for judging clinic and car detail, 14918 Lake Pointe Court, Liberty, MO.

Lorne’s cell is 816-289-7377 or home # is 816-628-3744. Pizza afterwards. The engine is in, so the 70 should be mostly

done by then!

Note: We will conduct a complete 700 point concourse judging sheet

at this clinic. If you have a car that you want to enter into a concours

or unrestored MCA class that has NEVER been judged (to be in these

classes the cars have to be 20 years old or older, please talk to Jack).

It is on a FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED basis.

Jack encourages members that would like to judge at MCA National

shows and are an MCA member to go online and take the certified judges

test for one of the classes you want to judge. When you pass a test, you

will need to judge that class at an MCA show to receive your certificate.

One of the best classes to start with is the daily/occasional driven cars. We

will need a lot of judges this year because we are hoping for a large turnout.

May 28 the Miss Divine K will be on display at Blue Springs Ford from 11 AM – 2:00 PM. More details to come on a breakfast that day prior to having a motorcycle escort to Blue Springs Ford.

May 29 & 30: GT 350 will be on display at the WW1 Memorial in KC. May 31 she will visit the Ford Claycomo Assembly Plant, and June 1 will go to the MetLife picnic before moving on to Des Moines and then Omaha. ALL are encouraged to participate in as many of these events as you can. She will be back in KC again on the 9/11 weekend for more events. The tour starts and ends in the KC Metro area because of the work this club has put into these events.

50/50 was won by new member, Mike Bridge – congratulations!

Ford Racing shirt (donated by club member) was auctioned for $25 to Jim Dold.

Meeting adjourned at 6:00 pm.

Nona Hernandez, acting as Secretary for Jan Somerville.

Tidbits

In March of 2016, the Ford Mustang

outsold the Porsche 911 in Germany

by a 780 to 752 margin. The GT model

is the biggest seller despite its $50,000

price tag in Germany. But compared to

the 911 which starts at $110,000 for a

base model with no options, the Mus-

tang is still a great deal. http://

money.cnn.com/2016/04/08/autos/ford-

mustang-sales-germany/

About 141,000 Mustangs were manu-

factured last year and about 19,000 of

those cars were sold outside the US.

110,000 were coupes and 30,000 were

convertibles. http://www.usatoday.com/
