Statement of FaithWe believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe in the deity of Christ, His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose in-dwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ.

Reaching People for ChristAs many of you will be aware, I am now entering my second year as National Manager of the Australian office of MWB. Thanks to God’s guidance, to you our incredible supporters, and to an awesome team of staff, it will be my privilege to continue in the role.

I would like to thank you all for your wonderful generosity, which has enabled MWB to fulfil its 2015 goals in ministering to the needy people of Eastern Europe. We have seen many souls come to The Lord, through the practical demonstration of Christian love in action, received from the MWB field teams. It is your selfless acts of generosity that make this work possible.

The unrest in Ukraine continues to disrupt life for many, and together with spiralling utility prices, creates greater need for the work of MWB in providing relief for displaced families and children. Your support through 2015 has been a tremendous blessing to these people, and we look forward to being able to continue in providing such support to the Ukrainian people.

Some of you will be familiar with the Special Project program that has been a part of MWB’s work for many years. Whilst the program has helped many families over the years, it has become apparent that some unfortunately, missed out on what could have been life changing opportunity.

After prayerful consideration, our International Board have made a decision to change the system of helping to minister to specific needs. In doing so, the Special Project program has been replaced by a more equitable system to assist families toward becoming self-sufficient. When a family is assessed by the field coordinator, as being suitable candidates for the self-sufficiency program, the means to attain independence, such as tools of trade, will be provided by the program.

By assisting families to become self-sufficient, we give them hope for their future, self-respect and dignity. We also show them that with God’s Grace, they too may one day be able to help others. Your love and kindness is changing lives for those who otherwise have little hope. Thank you and God bless you.

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ Matthew 25:40 (NIV)

Blessings,

David Turner, National Manager

Albania25 years after the fall of the Communist dictatorship, Albania still strives to develop as a country. The hopelessness of the people increased in 2015, and many families have left the country to seek asylum in the EU. The minimal economic growth has left only 1 in 5 families with sufficient resources to adequately survive. Albania has some severe internal problems that will slow down the process of modernisation. Corruption remains a big challenge and the number of children that are trafficked has also increased. In spite of some progress, the condition of the country, in all sectors (medical, educational, infrastructural etc.) remains seriously degraded.

BulgariaThe South-West region of Bulgaria (where Krupnik and Gotse Delchev are situated) is one of the poorest regions, with a very high rate of unemployment and illiteracy. In the past, the region’s main economic industries were mining, timber, animal breeding, farming, tobacco-growing and textiles. Today, many factories and plants have closed down, and young people have left the region to work abroad to provide for their families. Unfortunately, many return home as poor as when they left. This past year, Bulgaria opened its borders to allow 2000 Syrian refugees to seek asylum in the country, and MWB helped them by offering Operation Christmas Love boxes in December 2015. Living in this country is a great challenge, especially for those who are unemployed, disabled, sick or elderly.

Bosnia-HerzegovinaThe war in the 1990’s brought the economic and social development of the country to a standstill. Poverty can be directly linked to this brutal war, and even to the psychosomatic illnesses that are still on the increase. Even 20 years after the war, the need for MWB’s assistance has not declined, instead, it has increased. Impoverished families and the elderly need our intervention, in order to overcome the difficulties they are faced with daily. By establishing the three Soup Kitchens, Mission Without Borders is contributing towards mitigating this situation, and people feel that they are cared for and their spirit is restored.

Moldova22% of people in Moldova live below the poverty line. In most families, one of the parents goes abroad to seek work, others do seasonal or casual work but the wages are minimal. Many families make their living by working the land, but even this is a struggle with the harsh conditions. Poverty in Moldova has huge consequences, especially for the elderly - their pensions are not enough even for the basics. MWB works with over 500 needy families whilst creating strong partnerships with the local Churches. Together, we help to improve the lives of these families, children and elderly.

RomaniaPoverty has become epidemic in Romania with over 22% of the population below the poverty line. The worst affected are people from rural areas. The lack of education, jobs and infrastructure has left people with no hope for their future. Many children do not attend school, because their parents cannot afford the basic necessities. Unemployment is also high and as a direct consequence, living conditions are poor, health is neglected and the poverty cycle continues down through the generations. MWB has become a vital lifeline of support offered to the F2F families, CRI in community children and the elderly. This aid contributes towards reducing the deplorable living conditions and offers them new perspectives.

UkraineWith unemployment at almost 10%, an ongoing war with Russia, and the lowest social assistance of all the countries we serve in Eastern Europe, the people of Ukraine are in desperate need of our support. Many parents cannot provide for their families’ basic needs. There have been two revolutions in 10 years and the continual changes of government contribute to this economic and social instability. The aftermath of the war with Russia has caused a dramatic increase in the costs of utilities, consumer goods and clothes. Poverty has also increased the number of children living in Children’s Homes, as families struggle to provide for their own. All this creates a big gap in the physical, emotional and spiritual development of the children. The elderly are also in despair as the prices of food and medicines are at an all-time high.

In the early hours of April 26, 1986, a massive chemical explosion blew the 1,000 ton cover off the top of Chernobyl’s Unit Four reactor, spewing radiation over Ukraine, Belarus and northern Europe. Millions of people were affected by this disaster and it changed the world irrevocably as 50 tons of radioactive fuel was released into the night sky.

Millions of people were made victims overnight. Huge stretches of land were made uninhabitable. The radioactive cloud spread all over Europe. Numerous scientific studies conducted since the time of that terrible accident clearly show that the radioactive gases and particles released from the destroyed reactor in Chernobyl gave, and still give, rise to numerous serious illnesses, causing many people to become sick and die. Moreover, all the experts are unanimous in their statements that the Chernobyl effects will become more evident 25-30 years after the accident. We have now reached that milestone, and we pray that the number of cancers and other health issues begin to subside and not increase as originally predicted.

Unfortunately the news hasn’t been positive. An unprecedented growth of the number of cancer cases within the last few years is being reported. This devastating news was given to one of our sponsored families in 2010 when

their daughter Yulia was diagnosed with lymphogranulomatosis or Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

With no guarantee that their 14-year-old daughter would survive, even after the treatment and finding a suitable cure, the family were devastated. Yulia underwent several gruelling courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Praise be to the Lord, it was successful! Though they went through a really hard time, the cancer now is believed to be completely gone. The news, however, was bitter sweet for her family and medical team. Unfortunately, during her cancer treatment, Yulia was infected with Hepatitis B, most likely during the biopsy procedure. Due to the infection, Yulia now has to permanently take expensive medicine daily to cure her liver and keep her alive, as well as be tested every three months. Now there just isn’t enough money to provide for their family of 7 as well as her medications.

Mission Without Borders has supported the family through the Family to Family Sponsorship program so they can use what little money they do have to keep their child alive. This family and child is just one of thousands affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

Please pray for the thousands of families, children and elderly suffering the effects of the Chernobyl blast 30 years ago. May The Lord Jesus give comfort, strength and

healing to those who need it most.

30 Years On, the Devastation ContinuesMWB’s very own Guardian Angel.Volodymyr Khomych worked in the danger zone soon after the meltdown of Reactor 4 at the Chernobyl Power Plant in 1986. Working for a building company, he was sent as a driver to Chernobyl. He spent two full months sleeping in a tent and making the road from Chernobyl to Slavutych. While there, Volodymyr received a substantial dose of radiation and soon felt really sick. He was diagnosed with a non-cancerous swelling of the thyroid. Doctors took him to Rivne and operated to remove the large swelling in his neck. Thank God he survived and hasn’t had any further cancer or radiation illnesses since.Today he is currently our MWB Director in the Sarny Training Centre. During the past 30 years since the Chernobyl disaster, he has been called a ‘Guardian Angel’. His vision to bring hope through MWB to the helpless is relentless. During the aftermath of Chernobyl he sent aid and support to many of Sarny’s urgent needs including - medical centres; the Children’s hospital, Maternity hospital, Tuberculosis clinic and Psychiatric hospital, where he arranged for the provision of medical items, bed linen, hygiene items, mattresses, clothing and construction items.

What happened to cause the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster? On April 26, 1986 reactor four at the Chernobyl Power Plant experienced meltdown due to a malfunction with the cooling and monitoring system. The environmental, economic, and health effects of this disaster were set to persist well into the future. Over 7 million people were affected right across Europe especially in Belarus, Russia and Ukraine. People had to leave their homes, never to return. To date, over 350,000 people have been relocated. Over 101,000 square kilometres of land was contaminated. Today, 30 years on, radiation levels in the soil remain high. The land should not be used for agriculture or habitation again, however, 4.5 million children and adults still continue to live on contaminated land, growing and consuming crops, milk and meat, and as a consequence risk radiation poisoning and contracting cancer. Unfortunately, home grown garden and farming produce is the only alternative to starvation.

The situation - 30 years on.All reactors on the Chernobyl site are now shut down. Each affected country has provided a pension and other social assistance to the living victims. However, medical care is limited and pensions are insufficient to provide an adequate standard of living for them. Many of those affected by the Chernobyl disaster require extensive, long-term humanitarian aid, especially for the children in orphanages and families that are dealing with the aftermath of the disaster. How can you help?Pray – for the families, children and the elderly - for improved health and for Governments to continue to recognise the problems and provide support in the Chernobyl region.Give – support with a financial gift to help the work of Mission Without Borders in Ukraine.Sponsor a Child from Ukraine – with over 85,000 children still living in Children’s Homes today, the need is great. Many children have physical and intellectual disabilities, others are from poor families, unable to provide for their basic needs.Sponsor a Family from Ukraine – there are 2400 families in Ukraine who are in need of sponsors to support them and provide for their basic needs through MWB. They also need to know that Jesus loves them and wants to have a relationship with them.

Seeds of HopeAN INSPIRING FAMILY ON THE ROAD TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY

Five years ago the Sunjic family lost a wife and mother to lung cancer. She was 40 years old. In 2014, the father, Marinko, suffered three heart attacks in three days, had ground breaking surgery in a hospital in Mostar, Bosnia - Herzegovina, and also suffered from pneumonia in the aftermath. Somehow he survived.

As Marinko and his two children, Noa, 8 and Lucija, 14, sit around the wooden stove that heats their two bedroom house, you realise they have been through so much. Marinko is a modest and humble man, who cares for his children. He is a truck driver by trade, but due to his health he has lost his job and has little prospect of getting another.

However, this year, through Mission Without Borders Seeds of Hope program, Marinko and his family have started to find a way forward.

“This is something I never expected”, Marinko shared. “I never asked for any help, but you came to my door and offered it to my children and I. This is something amazing in this country because it is like a rule that no one cares for one another here. But you do, and I appreciate it a lot. I do not have the words to express my thankfulness.”

Draznan Yarak, one of Mission Without Borders Family to Family Coordinators in Bosnia - Herzegovina, said: “The project helped the family to cope with their troubles and have some spare money for other needs. Apart from seeds, the family was helped with school books and supplies, monthly food parcels, medicines, spectacles, and furniture.”

Draznan asked Marinko if he was able to till his own land and try and produce his own crops to help feed his family. Marinko’s answer was emphatic: “I worked before you came to help my family, I can and will work now, and I will continue to work when your help will no longer be needed. I’m that kind of man – I cannot just sit on my couch and wait for help to arrive.”

Since then he has done what he has said and produced and sold crops in order to provide for his family.

Marinko and his family are just one of many families that our MWB Family to Family team support and encourage towards achieving a life of self-sufficiency. Please pray for Marinko’s health and for the crops that he and his children grow, to continue to sustain them and help them grow as a family.

Planting the Seed of Hope…

“I worked before you came to help my family, I can and will work now, and I will continue to work when your help will no longer be needed. I am that kind of man.”

A $30 Seeds of Hope gift can provide ongoing nourishment for a family and bring them from a life of poverty to one of self-sufficiency.

“In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to

receive.’” Acts 20:35

Family SponsorshipGIVING FAMILIES HOPE FOR A BETTER TOMORROW.

Making the impossible possible: Bratko’s story

“I was hopeless, my wife too,” Bratko says sadly. “We both have been through school, but it’s impossible to find a job here.” In 2015, Bratko along with 55,000 other Albanians applied to leave their country in search of a new life in Germany. They were rejected and returned home with their dreams shattered.

Arriving in Germany, Bratko and his family were full of hope, but the dream did not last long. For a month they were kept in an asylum camp but were told that unless they were fleeing persecution or war they would not be granted asylum. Flying back into Tirana airport, rejection was etched on the faces of Bratko and his family - their hopes shattered.

As Bratko’s wife, Valbona, shares her experiences in Germany tears well in her eyes. “I am struggling to live here in Durres. I feel so insecure and I fear for my daughters futures all the time. When we look for jobs all we find are closed doors. It is only through your help that our family have anything, but it all feels like a crazy situation. We want to work and to provide for ourselves.” When our Mission Without Borders Albanian team, working on the frontlines in Durres, first enrolled the family in the Family to Family program, they saw their desire to work and wanted to help.

In response, Mission Without Borders has been supporting the family materially, emotionally and spiritually with the aim of providing them with hope, and helping them to become self-sufficient. Bratko has the skills as a plumber but without any tools or means to start a business he could not earn a living from this trade. Last year MWB sponsors supplied him with a Self-Sufficiency project to purchase construction tools to help increase his employability. He has now begun getting regular work. “Having the tools helps me so much and opens up opportunities. Once this job is done, I will continue to find more work.”

Recently, MWB’s Family to Family Coordinator, Kostandin Vasilini, visited the family home to see how they were getting on. “I found a different atmosphere,” Konstandin said, “there were more smiles and there was more positivity to the start of a new year. Their two daughters have also started school and are committed to working hard and getting good results!”

Despite all their problems, there is now hope for this family. Sponsoring a family in need provides an opportunity for self-sufficiency. Please pray for Albania and the thousands who want to abandon the country in search of a new life. Visit our website or contact us now to find out how you can sponsor a family and provide material and spiritual hope instead of hopelessness, so they can find a future in their own land and not abroad.

For just $40 per month you can release a family from poverty and give them a chance at a future with hope www.mwb.org.au

During winter a key project that provides hope and joy to those suffering in poverty in Eastern Europe is Mission Without Borders’ (MWB) Operation Christmas Love campaign. Across the countries we serve in Eastern Europe, over 30,000 parcels are delivered to those in need. In 2015 an extra 2000 parcels were also packed and delivered to Syrian refugees in Bulgaria.

The parcels contain basic essentials to feed families and vulnerable people at Christmas. All the goods are sourced locally, which is cost effective and provides income for the communities. Basic food items such as oil, flour, rice, pasta, salt, tea, some chocolate and cereals reach individuals and families from cities to remote villages. “At the end of the campaign it is always great to see its impact as a whole,” said Drazan Jarak, one of MWB’s Family to Family Coordinators. “To be able to provide for families in need at this time of year gives me a feeling that is indescribable. One of the key things that happens during the campaign is when we visit those in need with a parcel and they stare at you looking confused: “Why are you doing this?”they ask. Our answer is always simple and yet so important: ‘Because we love you and Jesus loves you.”

THE IMPACT OF OPERATION CHRISTMAS LOVE

“Because we love you”

And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called

according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

A letter of thanks received from a Pastor working in Albania. We Praise the Lord for using you this year once again to bring blessings and help to our ministry. We have offered the possibility of Salvation and also the practical help to many families in need in Fllaka, Sukth, Porto Romano, Currila and Durres city, Albania.

Christmas arrived in their humble homes with spiritual blessings and through the many gifts distributed to the children, and to the families within your Family to Family program. They received OCL parcels, clothing, warm scarves as well as other numerous gifts.

Every time these forgotten families receive a gift at this time of the year, it is as if they receive a postcard from Heaven. Most people say: “God has not forgotten us. This is His way to let us know He is blessing us.”

We share the Word of God and that brings hope for a better life in faith. We are very encouraged when we see that the Lord is changing the lives of many families. We have witnessed families, where domestic violence, alcoholism, hopelessness and unemployment used to reign, have amazing change that comes only from the Holy Spirit. Their lives are completely transformed and they feel a strong desire to start fresh.

We thank God for this cooperation and the ministry we share together because you have been a solid partner without whom these outcomes would have been impossible.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; Romans 1:16

We thank you for the cooperation and for your promptness to help. May the Lord bless your ministry.

In Christ, Pastor Gezim Spahija .

A Syrian refugee in Bulgaria and his young child receive a much needed

box of love.

Standing outside in sub-zero temperatures with a mauve scarf wrapped round her careworn face in the isolated village of Triskino, Western Ukraine, Olha spends her days worrying about her son.

In February 2015, Olha’s 21 year-old son, Sasha, was stationed to the Donbass region of Eastern Ukraine to fight for his country. Positioned on the front in the conflict against the Russian army and separatists, he was wounded by shrapnel to the arms, legs and head. He is recovering, but is still based on the Eastern front while the ceasefire holds. Many Ukrainians who served in the army during this time are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, as they try to return to ‘normal’ civilian life.

“I pray that this war is finally over and that our children would come back home alive.” I try to find what food I can to send to him at the front as I dread to think how they all eat out there. Still, I have my faith, and I believe God will protect my son.”

This is just one of the many struggles that Olha, widow and mother of 13 has faced in her life. “When my husband died, it was a difficult time for me and my children. My Petro was a loving and caring husband and a very good father,

and I had to be very strong to be able to cope with my grief and at the same time support my children. Of course, financially that was very hard too. Ten of our children were still at school. Without the Mission’s help during that time, I don’t know how we would have survived.”

Olha now lives with six of her children, the other seven are now married. In 2015 gas and fuel prices soared to nearly six times their normal amount. Olha’s monthly pension of $136 was not enough to cover their basic needs, let alone heating their home.

At the onset of winter our MWB Coordinators became concerned that they would really struggle as temperatures plummeted. As part of MWB’s Operation Winter Rescue campaign, the family received enough firewood to heat their home through the long and dark winter months.

“We have got enough firewood for the whole winter!” Olha exclaims, getting emotional. “The cost of it is higher than my monthly pension, and I now don’t have to worry about how to keep our house and my children warm. Thank you so much to the supporters who have opened their hearts to us!”

Ioana and her siblings live in Danes, an isolated Roma village in Romania, where poverty is rife and changes in life very few. Their parents have neglected them and are often away for days collecting bottles at a rubbish dump a few kilometres away, their only source of income. They cannot provide their children with sufficient food and have even given them alcohol to make them sleep and to mask their hunger. Ioana is left to care and provide for her siblings. Their grandfather is around to look after them as much as possible, but he is getting very old and cannot keep up with such active children.

In this community Mission Without Borders partners with a local church and Community Centre with the aim of bringing hope and education to children like Ioana. The Church and Community Centre in the village are doing a fantastic job supporting these children, providing them with food, medical and emotional support, space to do their homework and potentially future scholarships. Each day after attending the centre, Ioana brings back a loaf of bread, yoghurt and sweets for her siblings, who eat it ravenously.

Asked what she would like to be when she grows up, Ioana says: ”I would like to be a teacher.” As you look at her coping and caring for her sibling’s under great pressure in the absence of her parents, you can see how she has the potential to fulfil this dream. However Ioana, and thousands of children like her can only do it with your ongoing support. It’s heartbreaking to realise the challenges they face. One in eight Romanian children go to bed hungry and thousands of children each year abandon their education because of their parents’ inability to support their schooling. The statistics are bleak, and the outlook dark for children in this region, but with the right approach through our Child Rescue International program and the hope of Jesus Christ, anything is possible.

Thousands of children, especially those living in the rural areas, live everyday on the edge of survival and are without any hope for the future. Their parents are unable to provide for them and the children are left neglected and vulnerable. Through the CRI in Community program we are able to meet the basic needs of orphaned, abandoned and “at risk” children living in the local communities, offering them the chance of education and social and spiritual guidance. The activities developed for these children over the years consist of regular visits in order to provide the necessary spiritual, educational, emotional and material support they need. Regular meetings with all the children in a community environment have a positive impact upon their social development. The Summer Camps and Bible Correspondence courses are also huge impacts in these children’s lives, touching their hearts and offering guidance throughout many difficult times. The material, emotional, educational and spiritual investment in the children’s lives have long-term benefits – all of which contribute to a more positive future and adult life. What they learn now through all the activities provided will give them a better chance of a successful future than what they are currently living in.Child Sponsorships are how we provide for all these beautiful children. Is there room in your life to love and support a child in need? Please contact us today for more information on child sponsorship. www.mwb.org.au

Yana, a 14-year-old girl from Zbarazh Children’s Home, Ukraine went to her first Summer Camp in Berizka, situated in a beautiful area in the middle of the forest. She didn’t know what to expect. Nevertheless, Yana was very excited about what her time away would be like. She did not expect such a special and unique encounter that would change her life forever. During the 10 days at camp, Yana got to know the Good News and decided to give her life to Jesus. Yana shares, “I was so overwhelmed to learn that I’m God’s child and that all my sins are forgiven! We have prayed with my leader, Tania, and after the prayer, I felt something within myself - as if I was born again, a great load off my mind! I want my heart to be changed and now I believe that Jesus will do that for me. I’m so grateful I could come here and learn from our leaders all about God’s love and grace!”

“At camp, I’ve learnt to read the Bible and want to read it every day to know more and more about my Saviour. I do not know how to explain it, but somehow Jesus has become so real to me now!”

Yana loved the camp’s atmosphere as she felt accepted and loved there. She enjoyed spending time with her leader, talking to her and receiving answers to her questions. “It’s so great to have somebody to open your heart to, especially when your heart is heavy and you feel so bad. I know I have someone I can talk to anytime now, she will be there for me. She (my leader) also taught me that regardless of how bad I feel and whatever problems I have, I can always tell everything to Jesus in my prayers and He will always listen to me and never abandon me,” she continued.

Yana dreams of getting a higher education after school and to become a paediatrician. She believes this career is all about helping others and saving lives, something that she wants to do very much. “I want to be successful in my life. Still, success has different meanings for different people. This camp helped me understand that I can truly only succeed with God, and that I don’t have to do everything on my own because my Lord is always here to help me. It feels so great to know this, indeed!”

We receive so many positive letters from our CRI children of their time at Summer Camps, but some of them are very special. We love sharing stories like Yanas with our supporters, so they know that their input in the children’s lives and destinies through supporting a program like Summer Camp is so very important and significant. Yana says goodbye so beautifully: “I will never forget my time because I got saved! Thank you very much for giving me this chance!”

Paul says in one of his letters to the church in Corinth, “I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow” (1 Cor. 3:6. NIV). We believe that by our donors supporting children like Yana to come to Summer Camp they are planting the seeds in the children’s heart, and we are honoured by the Lord to harvest it.

We thank all the supporters who contribute to this wonderful project, which God uses as a powerful instrument to build his Kingdom!

TAKING REFUGE IN CHRIST: AUREL’S STORY

“I liked hearing that God is with us through the hardest times in life.”

The name Aurel means ‘little gold’ in Romanian. Sadly, there is not much that is bright and rich in Aurel’s life in Surani, Prahova County. His family has been trapped in a cycle of poverty for many years. From generation to generation they have had little or no education resulting in unemployment, addiction and early deaths in the family. Aurel is now 17 and he has been enrolled in MWB’s CRI in Community program since he was 13. His father died when he was three and his mother suffers from schizophrenia and has always required constant medication. Aurel and his three siblings have essentially been alone for over 10 years. School was the last thing on their minds.

In rural Romania, life is hard at the best of times. Education is the key to helping individuals like Aurel and his family to become self-sufficient and to break the cycle of poverty. Aurel said: “Sometimes, especially during the winter, it is more difficult. Food is more expensive in winter, and we need more firewood. We want to be warm and have food on the table, but also to have the medicines we need. We do not always manage to have it all.” He was forced to grow up too soon and held strong fears that he would end up with the same disease as his mum.

Mission Without Borders has helped Aurel with his studies to become a tailor. A Vocational Training Scholarship covers his transport costs to school, and also to the hospital where he has treatment twice a week for scoliosis. He has spent time with people who have been able to share with him the love of Jesus. Aurel is appreciative not only of the opportunity to study but what it represents to him.

“Homework and the Christian Input meetings are a refuge for me from struggles at home. Once we learnt about Daniel’s story in the fiery furnace. I liked hearing that God is with us through the hardest times in life.” Last year Aurel gave his heart to Jesus during his time at Summer Camp and Christ became his ultimate refuge.

We hope this story is a wonderful encouragement for all our sponsors and supporters, who contribute to our Vocational Training Programs and Scholarships. Not only will Aurel have a chance at a better future, he is on his way to breaking the cycle of poverty. Best of all he now has Jesus on his side every step of the way!

Becoming a Vocational Training and Scholarship partner is a great way to provide a child like Aurel with a chance to break the poverty cycle. Please contact us today to find out more information about how you can make a difference through the gift of education.

Mission Without Borders Street Mercy project, in partnership with the local evangelical church in Sofia, delivers food to the homeless. One of the areas they visit is near the public housing blocks. These buildings are close to a very busy road. The state of homelessness in this city is visible for everyone to see as the lost and outcast gather by the Street Mercy bus. Broken, desperate faces line up, hungry for food and water.

This particular morning a young family (pictured above) stands out from the crowd. The parents stand in line with four small children. The children appear innocent and do not seem to be aware of the struggles of their parents or the difficult life they have ahead of them. As the food is served, the father takes his food and walks off to a nearby concrete ledge and turns his back on the van. He reeks of alcohol.

“We have always lived in a shelter,” the mother says. “Life is very difficult as I have seven children. We try to rely on God. I first heard about this project after I went to churches looking for help for my family. We have been coming here for food for over a year. Recently we managed to find an apartment for six months.” She continues, “There is nothing in it, all the doors were broken. Anna from the Mission helped us get mattresses, clothes and food. I struggle to think about tomorrow, I try to help my children today. Without the help of Mission Without Borders, I don’t know what we would do.”

Anna Atanasova, Street Mercy coordinator in Bulgaria, said: “Sadly many fathers drink to numb the reality of day to day life and the pressures they are under, and young families find themselves in a cycle of struggle as a result. We are not here to judge but to support, love and try to reach their hearts through God’s word and Christ’s hope.”

MWB in Bulgaria delivers 120 hot soups, 6 days a week to homeless people living in Sofia. Besides nutrition, our beneficiaries count on medical care as well as clothes and shoes twice a year. They receive Christian care, Bible readings, prayers and personal counselling. What they value above all is the friendly attitude towards them shown by everyone involved in this ministry.

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Jesus Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:23-24

Every day at 6am, Diana rises and begins to dress her little children in the same worn, and only warm clothes they own. It is barely light when she leaves the dilapidated house, carrying her two-year-old in her arms with her four-year-old walking sleepily by her side. It is -5 degrees celcius and it is over 2km to walk to the kindergarten.

Diana is 32 and lives in a small village in Cantemir in south-west Moldova. She was one of seven children who grew up as orphans when their parents both died in the space of a month from cancer. Her parents had always tried to cover up their poverty with love, but after their deaths, Diana remembers only famine and physical abuse from her older brothers.

When she was 25 she married, got pregnant, but sadly had a miscarriage. Doctors told her she could not have children which left her devastated but after lengthy treatment, Diana became pregnant and gave birth to a boy, Eric.

“The baby brought sunshine into our family,” she said. “To provide for us, Nicolae, my husband, found a job. It was not well paid but at least the money he earned was enough for food. Unfortunately, my husband began drinking with his friends and started coming home late and abusing me verbally and physically. When he was sober, he could not recall anything from the previous evening. I thought that if I got pregnant again, he would stop, but he didn’t.”

Diana gave birth to a daughter, Milena, but her husband decided to leave for Moscow in search of a better life. It was then that Pastor Boris, one of Mission Without Borders (MWB) Moldovan Coordinators found out about Diana’s situation and decided to visit.

“When I met this family for the first time,” the pastor said, “I knew it was not by accident. I started consoling Diana and enrolled the children into MWB’s CRI in Community program. I saw the humiliation that they had to endure at the hands of their father.

Together with other brothers from the church, we helped them move to another house where they can live in peace and they do not have to pay rent. They have started attending the church and regularly attend the Community Centre. Diana has received Jesus into her heart. I think everyone is a lot happier now.”

Speaking Life & LoveIn collaboration with MWB, the Cantemir Community Centre supports many women and children in similar situations as Diana. They have a fully functioning canteen open to the elderly during the day and for the children to come after school to eat nourishing meals and to study. Many children from the local area arrive daily, are given a warm meal, fresh fruit and spend time doing their homework and attending English classes. The younger children like Eric and his little sister Milena, play games and learn about Jesus while their parents have some much needed rest and time connecting with other adults.

The Community Centre is always a hub of activity. Once a week the needy, including the children, can bring their clothes and a volunteer will wash them in the washing machine. For those that don’t have a bathroom at home, there is a shower and fully equipped bathroom they can use at any time. The staff are all very aware of the homes most of the beneficiaries live in. Most of them are lucky to have running water, and electricity would be a luxury.

The volunteers and staff at the Community Centre also spend time visiting the families and elderly in poverty within the area, ensuring they know about the facilities available to them. Pastor Boris and his team bring them food and provide them with emotional support.

When we asked Diana what the Community Centre has meant, her eyes welled with tears. “I cannot express my gratitude enough. Pastor Boris and MWB have helped me so much. Since I accepted Jesus as my personal Saviour, He has worked a lot in my heart. I am a changed person now; I have peace and trust God in everything. I even pray for my husband every day and I believe God will change him too. Recently, I received winter shoes and clothes for my children from the Community Centre. You cannot imagine what joy it brought to me. I can’t afford to buy such things for them and I have been ashamed of the clothes I have had to dress them in, but I had no other choice. Often, when we arrived at kindergarten, their feet were wet through and cold because their shoes were worn out. Thank God we will not struggle with this anymore.”

Pastor Boris and the staff at the Community Centre have also recently provided the family with firewood to help them through the remaining winter months and beyond.

Will you partner with us to support the Community Centres? Your gift will go a long way to bring new hope to many children, families and the elderly in Eastern Europe.

Just $50 will provide a month of hot meals and Community Centre facilities for a needy person – so much more than a daily warm bowl of soup. www.mwb.org.au

Community FundraisingORDINARY PEOPLE MAKING AN IMPACT

When a group of Year 9 and 10 students at Mount Annan Christian College learned about Mission Without Borders and the amazing experiences children their age receive from a week at Summer Camp, they took it upon themselves to help raise money for children just like them to learn about Jesus whilst having the time of their lives.

11 girls sought permission from the school to hold a sausage sizzle with all proceeds going to MWB’s Summer Camp appeal. MWB’s National Manager, David Turner was there to lend a hand cooking the sausages. He also had a chance to talk to the students about Mission Without Borders and the work that we do.

The event was a huge success with a total of $1433 being raised to support children in Eastern Europe to attend Summer Camp. The cost for a child to go to Summer Camp for one day is $20. Their goal was to raise enough money to send 7 children to Summer Camp for a week each. After easily reaching this goal, they decided to donate the remainder of the funds raised to buy school supply packs, so these children had the necessities to be able to attend school when they returned from camp as well!

What an achievement! On behalf of the children in Eastern Europe who will be able to go to Summer Camp this year we say, “Thank you MACC!” We really appreciate your support and raising the awareness of our Summer Camps.

Mount Annan Christian College Digs Deep for Summer Camp.

On A Mission To Provide Warmth And Comfort.Pam and Peter Butcher’s love of making quilts led them to hold a 10 day Quilt Show at Kyabram Town Hall in Victoria late last year, to raise awareness and funds to support MWB’s Operation Winter Rescue Appeal. Over 40 beautifully hand-made quilts were on display to the public. Pam’s inspiration: “We started out to provide comfortable quilts for the children in homes who really just want to be warm.”

Pam’s husband Peter also has a passion for quilting. “It can take anything between 8 to 20 hours to make just one,” he said. “We don’t just want to do it, we love it and enjoy doing it.” For Pam, so much more goes into the quilts than just fabric. “It’s like parting with a child, but I know they’re going to people who need them more than us.”

Pam and Peter’s church is right behind them. There’s now lots of other volunteers making quilts to donate. “We’re really happy to see so many people helping out, especially the younger generation. It’s rewarding to see something so beautiful made out of scraps of material. Each one of our quilts would fit three children under it, and to be able to give that to a family or child in need on the other side of the world, brings us so much joy!” All of the quilts and money raised from the show have been generously donated to Mission Without Borders! Thank you Pam and Peter for keeping the poor warm!

If you think your school, Church community, friends, family or Bible study group may be interested in hearing about the work of Mission Without Borders, or has an idea for fundraising and would like some more information, please contact our office. We would be happy to help!

Gift in KindDonations given to Mission Without Borders in 2015 to support our Gift In Kind ministry kept our volunteers in both Sydney and Melbourne extremely busy!

We would like to extend a very big thank you to all of our amazing supporters who volunteer, knit, crochet and donate their time to provide items of warmth to the thousands of poor families, children and elderly of Eastern Europe. You are very much appreciated.

We’ve included the following information to give an idea of the magnitude of this ministry, and just how many people living in poverty we actually reach.

In 2015, a total 33, 570kg of donated goods with a total value of $2,384,000 were sent in 6 separate containers from Sydney and Melbourne. This included:

• 350 cartons of hygiene items

• 107 cartons of brand new footwear

• 4256 knitted and crocheted blankets

• 508 cartons of manufactured clothing with a value of $710,000

• 54,133 pieces of knitwear with a value of $956,300

All of these items are an incredible blessing to the beneficiaries Mission Without Borders serves. We have received information on what is needed moving forward. As you can appreciate the field countries receive thousands of donated items from all around the world. With the exorbitant costs of shipping and transportation, we have been asked to be more selective and send the field only items that they currently most need.

At present, the field have an excess supply of knitted and crocheted scarves and beanies, so do not require us to send any more until further notice. If you currently knit items for MWB and would like to continue to knit, we are still in need of warm jumpers, blankets or knitted squares and bed socks. Alternatively, you may wish to donate these items to other organisations presently in need of them. If you are unsure what is needed at the time of reading this magazine, please contact our office on 02 9647 2022 and we will be happy to update you.

We would also like to thank our corporate partners who this year have donated thousands of boxes of undergarments and various other manufactured clothing. Their generosity is overwhelming and we are fortunate to have established some amazing partnerships this past year. Mission Without Borders is always in search of corporations to partner with us to donate bulk quantities of items in need. If you would like to get involved in a corporate partnership or know of organisations that may be interested please contact David Turner, National Manager for further discussion.

Please keep in mind that our collection point contacts are volunteers giving of their time and resources to serve the Lord through MWB.

A special thank you to all of our volunteers andcollection points, who selflessly devote their time and effort to bless the people of Eastern Europe.

Logistics with LoveWe are so blessed to receive thousands of handmade and donated items of warm clothing and blankets to send to Eastern Europe.

Let’s be honest, not everyone is gifted with the ability to transform a few balls of wool into a colourful masterpiece that can actually be worn! If you are reading this and nodding your head, don’t fret, there’s still a lot you can do!

Did you know that each time we fill a container ready to leave our shores with donated goods, we must also raise the funds to cover the continually rising shipping costs? Once the goods arrive it also costs $5,500 per truck to transport items to all the countries we serve in Eastern Europe.

A $100 donation will provide 1 cubic metre of shipping freight costs to assist us in sending all the wonderful items donated. If you struggle to knit or crochet, but feel led to help by donating towards our container/shipping expenses we would love to hear from you! It’s a small amount to give to keep the cold out and bring love to so many men, women, children and elderly who desperately need it.

Gift In Kind – Ways you can HelpIf you have only just learned about Mission Without Borders and the Gift in Kind program and would like to get involved, thank you! Here’s how you can make a difference.

What is needed (a quick guide)

Knitted, crocheted and handmade items including blankets (160x140cm), patchwork quilts or polar fleece blankets, gloves and socks and manufactured clothing and shoes.

If you are knitting squares we would ideally like a set of 56 same sized squares (20cm x 20cm) packaged together. This is helpful for those who support us sewing the squares into blankets if the correct number of squares (and same size) are provided.

Knitting patterns are also available – contact our office or visit www.mwb.org.au to download a copy.

Items not acceptedSecond hand/used clothing items.Beanies, ScarvesBaby Aids jumpersMaterial/fabric pieces of any length or size.

Please also minimise the packaging that you send with your knitted and donated items. Items sent to the field countries are counted, re-packed and put into boxes and all packaging then needs to be disposed of.

Please assist and consider the collection points and our volunteers in the packing rooms by adhering to these guidelines. As you can imagine they have thousands of items to sort through. MWB also then has to dispose of the incorrectly donated goods which is costly and time consuming.

A BEQUEST TO MISSION WITHOUT BORDERS CAN CHANGE LIVES!

”I have blessed my family in every way I know how… I have lived each day trying to make a difference… It’s time to leave a legacy that will continue to help

others even when I cross the final border…”Making a Will is a very private and personal matter. Of course, first and foremost you will want to see that you adequately provide for your loved ones. Having done that, you may then wish to consider a gift in your Will to Mission Without Borders, to continue supporting and providing for the poor in Eastern Europe.

Leave a lasting legacy… A gift in your Will to Mission Without Borders will bring hope for generations to come…

The poverty and suffering in Eastern Europe is greater than ever and leaving a bequest is one of the most personal ways that you can support our work. For many of us, our Will is an opportunity to give the greatest gift of our whole life. Not only can we take care of our families in a special way, we can help some of the neediest people in the world far beyond what we ever thought was possible.

It is the generosity and support of people like you that enable Mission Without Borders to bring hope and positive change to children, families, the disabled, sick and elderly whom we serve.

If you would like more information about leaving a Gift in your Will, contact Mission Without Borders to request our comprehensive brochure.
