Thanks for taking a moment to read about the opportunities that we have before us at C3 Church. We want to make everyone aware of some of the exciting programs that we are offering this fall. It is our hope that you will be instructed and inspired to live “Your Best Life” by getting involved in some way.

Everything we have designed is prayerfully and strategically built to help you grow. Some of the offerings this year have taken us to new dimensions of planning and will stretch us and our leaders, but we

totally believe it will be worth it. It is our hope that you will partner with us to support the purposes of God in our generation. Our vision includes the reaching, equipping and empowering on a variety of different levels; yourpersonal, professional, financial and family life. Hopefully we can serve you this year as we journey together. We have the mostamazing weekend services at our two campuses: Westhills and Metro Calgary (17th

Ave). We’d love to have you join us. Make sure you visit our guest lounge after the service for a coffee, so you can meet our team and get to know some or our amazing leaders.

MY STORYVince & Tracey Urquhart

initiative

Our family has been attending C3 Calgary for 6 years and we love it here! We have experienced God at C3 in a new and fresh way and feel that He is alive today. Our perspective on “church” has changed now and C3 has given us a new revelation of what it means to be “free in Christ”. We have experienced personal

healing from the past because of some awesome leaders that have poured into our lives. We desire now to be real to a broken world yet being challenged daily to serve Christ and let God do the work through us. This is a place that is fun, powerful and relevant and I can just be myself when I worship God. I’m excited about MY church and excited to bring MY friends to C3 Calgary!

involved stuff

We are just over two months into our Rise & Build Journey. It is with great anticipation and excitement we are able to announce we now have commitments to eliminate $210,000 of our $219,500 debt in this year’s Rise and Build Phase 1 campaign. Not only that, as you are pressing into your commitments; we have received $35,000 in offerings toward the campaign! That puts us right on target to meet our objective.

We pray that this is a time of blessing and growth for you as you continue to walk in faith with your

finances. As we look forward to our future together we thank you for your commitment to building disciples at C3 Church. Lives will be changed because of the seeds you are planting.

If you would like to share your Rise & Build faith journey, please submit it to: [email protected]. To read other stories of faith, visit www.c3calgary.ca.

perfectly. You see, I am passionate about being a mom and I’m living the dream that God placed in my heart even as a young girl. Of course I have those days where I want to go running for the hills, but 99.9 percent of the time I feel blessed beyond measure.

So, it’s time once again to embrace days that both start and end with checking my calendar. It’s time to slowly back-up the kids’ bedtimes to a reasonable hour, and yes, it’s time to venture out and buy those dreaded school supplies. Once September arrives I’ll embrace the routine and even enjoy certain aspects of it. For now though, I’m choosing to embrace each moment of these last days of summer. Because I am quickly realizing that years disappear almost as quickly as summers, and before I know it, my little ones will be all grown up enjoying summers with their own children. So for now, I’ll revel in the warmth of those unhurried morning snuggles while praying for an Indian Summer.

you know what water reminds me of? ... RAFTING!” Floating down the Bow River, building a fort on ‘Harder Island’ (the island behind our house which our kids have adopted as their own), snuggling into Mom and Dad’s bed to watch a movie (complete with popcorn) in the middle of the day, and playing waterproof UNO in the hot tub during a rainstorm; these are some of the snapshots in time that will play through my mind longafter we’ve raked up every last leaf in our backyard.

I’ve been feeling unsettled today, kind of a nonspecific angst. In trying to discern the source I realize that my calendar for next week is starting to fill. Life is ramping up in anticipation of Fall. There are things to do, places to be and people to meet... goodthings, great places, awesome people. It’s all good, but it’s not the peaceful reprieve that I’ve enjoyed throughout this summer. Now you may be saying to yourself, “Peaceful? With four kids?” I know that the two seemingly don’t mesh, but for me they go together

Why is it that when I was a child summer seemed to last FOREVER, but now as an adult, I feel as though it’s gone in a blink? Just last week they started again, those ‘Back to School’ TV ads that have as their musical accompaniment “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Seeing the commercial almost brought me to tears. Now, I have to admit that I have become successively more emotional with each of my four pregnancies, but that said, rarely do marketing campaigns have me reaching for Kleenex! What makes me teary-eyed is the realization that in a couple short weeks, two of my four little treasures will be heading off to school, bringing an end to our lazy days of summer.

You see, my ideal summer day looks something like this: it begins with me

sleeping in as late as our one year old allows, pajamas until noon, then bathing suits until supper, an unhurried dinner with everyone gathered around the table followed a couple hours later by an hour or so of PVR’d reality TV (my guilty pleasure) snuggled up on the couch with my love while the kids are all tucked in their beds.

Thinking back on this summer the most memorable moments have been for the most part unscripted, uncomplicated, and inexpensive. Just last week our three year old, Max, was taking a drink when he looked up at me with a big grin and said, “Mommy, do

FEAR “Ninety percent of all those who fail are not actually defeated. They simply quit.” Paul J Meyer

The Two Most Crippling Fears that Face Men Today: The fear of failure is the single greatest obstacle to success in the lives of adult men. Taken to its extreme, we become totally pre-occupied with not making mistakes and seeking approval for security above all other considerations. This fear usually manifests in the words, “I can’t”. When gripped by this fear, it begins to outwork itself in our bodies in the form of rapid beating of the heart, shallow heightened breathing, tight throat and an irresistible need to run to the bathroom. Sound familiar?

The second fear that interferes with our performance and restricts masculine expression is the fear of rejection. We learn this as children when our parents make their love conditional upon our behaviour. If we do what pleases them, they give us love and approval. If we do something they don’t like, they withdraw their love and approval which we interpret as rejection.

Men raised with conditional love

become preoccupied with the opinions of others and develop a behavioural pattern that is characterised by hostility, suspicion and an obsession with performance. This is expressed in the attitude of “I have to”, and is associated with the feeling of, “I have to work harder and accomplish more in order to please my boss.” (With the role of their boss now having become that of a surrogate parent.)

A high percentage of men experience both these fears of failure and rejection. They are caught in the trap of feeling like, “I can’t, but I have to”.The antidote to these fears is the development of courage, character and self-esteem. The opposite of fear is actually love, self-love and self-respect. Acting with courage in a fearful situation is simply a technique that boosts our self respect and so that our fears subside and lose their ability to effect our behaviour and our decisions.

Here are two things you can do to increase your self-esteem and

self-confidence in order to overcome your fears.

Firstly, realize and accept that you can do anything you put your mind to and when confronted with a fearful situation that you normally would retreat from, step into it with a courageous attitude and action. Secondly, continually think of yourself as

REALMEN is committed to encouraging men in seeing their value and assisting them practically (by addressing issues like those mentioned above) to finish life well with the vitality, wholeness and longevity they deserve.

a valuable and an important person and remember that temporary failure is the way you learn how to succeed.

Stop allowing the fear of failure and rejection rule your life. As you become the master of your world and your fears, you’ll start to see the future you deserve begin to take shape.

You and I find our healing in our ability to trust Jesus’ heart of love towards us, not a pastor, father, mother, traffic cop, politician or even our own, but His!

I remember the deep shame and dread in my soul the moments before Jesus opened my heart to His ferocious kindness towards me; His love and His forgiveness of my vile nature. His long suffering and patience. His nature to redeem the seemingly unredeemable. His great plan for my life. His great grace and love flooded me, washed me, changed me.... and continues to.

As I have daily tried to “make every effort to apply the benefits of the Promises of God

towards me” (2 Peter 1:3-11), I increasingly have become a man who covers instead of exploits. Who blesses more than curses. Who sees what the devil doesn’t want me to see... the finger prints of The Father on His children.

As my pastors says, “it only takes a cold heart, boney finger and one good eye to fault find (judge; to pass a verdict on the intentions of a persons heart and intentions - to give up and stop fighting for someone and instead start fighting against them... just my interpretation).”

Hi, my name is Sean. I’m a Pastor. A Father. A Husband. A Friend. And I am also narcissistic many

times. Which is a much greater grief to me than anyone else could imagine. But, it is the blessing of God that heals me.

My heart overflows with gratitude for His mercy in my life. His heart breaks and bleeds when we forget or choose not to trust Him.

The very best life awaits those who would trust Jesus at His word, when He tells us that He didn’t come to judge, but instead to love, forgive and empower us to live us to our God-given potential.

Jesus’ empowering love leads the narcissist becoming fearless, powerful and full of hope.I’m on such a journey...

FOR ANARCISIST

GRACE

Proverbs 4:23 “Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the Issues of life.”

We would be hard pressed to find a more important Scripture for success in life – Your Best Life comes from your heart! If your heart is sour, your life will be too, same if it’s stingy, disagreeable, negative, cynical.

This is like working hard to keep your ATTITUDE right. Don’t let your heart get stolen by jealousy, hatred, fear,

doubt, cynicism. How many people do you know who have not gotten over an offence and developed a cancerous attitude towards the group or person who offended them? Every area of our lives are affected by our attitude.

Thank you Lord for the great Holy Spirit who shapes our attitude to please God & bless people. ‘Be filled with The Spirit!’.

The REALMEN Ministry of C3 Church meets and supports men where they’re at in life - as husbands, fathers, sons, workers and as Christians. Men everywhere want to know how to do life and to do it well. They want to know how to best manage busy lives and juggle the ever-increasing responsibilities and demands being placed on them.

The REALMEN Ministry recognises that there are different seasons in a man’s life that he needs to understand and be prepared for. He also needs to be equipped for success. The aim of the REALMEN Ministry is to be proactive in bringing men to a place of understanding and equipping them with practical strategies for all aspects of a BEST life.
