A man in his early 40’s was threatening to commit suicide today.This happened in the area of Ladywood off King Edwards road. This caused a lot of obstruction in the area with the traffic and with the amount of people coming to watch to see if he would jump.One witness said ‘he was shouting abuse, talking about how his family is mean to him and that no one cares for him’.A family friend of the man on the roof said ‘he was okay and was a good genuine per-son, but he has been in quite a bit of debt and it seems like no one is there to help him out even though I’m there for him, but he wouldn’t listen to me to get down either, he normally listens to me so something must of happened previously’.Another witness said ‘he was cursing so bad, I had to cover my children’s ears so that they dont hear his bad language.I think he had a lot of troubles, he didn’t sound like a happy man to be honest’.Another witness said’ That he was up there for ages, I’m not even exaggerating he was not there for like half an hour he was there for like literally two hours, just walkin back and forward, swearing and threatening everyone by saying he will jump’.A final witness said ‘he was so close to the

edge I just didn’t know whether he would jump or not but I really thought he would slip, he sort of looked drunk as well by the way he was walking and his words were coming out slurred’.This has been a second related event of what some people may see as ‘attention seeking’.A previous man in the city centre tried to commit suicide which caused a lot of traffic and road blockage.Police arrived shortly at the scene and corded the area off; they tried to talk the man out of jumping and were asking him to get down safely. Some of his family members, and friends were persuading him to get down as well but he would not listen to them.They told us that he has been very depressed lately and has been getting treated for it.Police are thinking to take these issues to the government to stop people from causing such a scene.The man nevere jumped in the end, but over-all there was a lot of trouble caused over this.Hopefully nothing like this happens again.

Protesters were protesting against the cut backs the government have in stall for us in the park off Colmore row, Centinary square.Students who will be starting univer-sity discussed this issue with a few adults who were not happy about this situation.A petition was being signed by people who agreed with ‘fighting cut backs’.A female aged 19, told us ‘they should cut back their wages instead than making it only affect us, they have the money we don’t where’s the logic in that?’. Protesters stood around shouting comments about how they feel and were encouraging people to sign the petition, particulary students who will be affected by the EMA cuts and the increase in tuition fees for higher education.

In the area of Ladywood a man in his late thirtys snatched a gold chain off a woman, Sarah, aged 31 whilst she was in her flat. Apparently, he knocked on this woman’s door and snatched the gold chain off her neck before she had time to even look at him properly. Childsplay located in Ladywood arts and leisure centre was celebrating 20 years of achievement on the 29th October.The event started at 6.30 pm where all staff that worked there had to attend with fifty guests which could be par-ents whose children attends the nursery or play scheme.Joan Hinds the manager of Childsplay started the night off with a well thought

speech about her experience in managing the company and the staff she has worked with.Each staff member received a present due to their intake in the company and their hard work.Food, drinks, snacks and cake was given to everyone that participated within the celebration.Shirley, age 45 said ‘’I enjoyed working at Child-splay, the environment was friendly and warm and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, it was just

really good, won’t be an experience I’ll forget.’’John, age 21 said ‘’I’m proud that I can say my mum owns this company, I worked here for a year, and I understand fully why people enjoy working here so much, things had to be done but not so much pres-sure was on you, I would recommend any job here to anyone’’.Have you got a story?call 0121 444 1298
