Peace Corps Work Description for Alex Macias Promoted healthy lifestyle development, built skills for the future and the world of work , promoted service learning, leadership and community projects with support of parents and community members in a rural community of 7,000. **Also managed and incorporated gender work in all my work as my site was a Let Girl's Learn (LGL) site. Primary projects: Teaching: Facilitated educational session to over 300 middle school and high school students on a weekly bases on the following; positive identity, establishing goals, decision making and critical thinking, Sex Education, Career Orientation, nutrition, financial literacy, and project management. Health Education: • Partnered with network of health posts to design a HIV/AIDS prevention campaign where 10 teachers were taught how to teach Sex Education using non-formal educational techniques, and then replicas of HIV/AIDS educations sessions were done by those teachers to about 250 high school students. • Designed a Sex Education Peer Leadership pilot program for 35 high school students. Vocational Orientation: • Coordinated with provincial government and school board to plan a vocational fairs for rural high school aged youth • Designed a series of career orientation workshops for 57 high school seniors Secondary Projects: • Designed a free summer school learning program for 180 students from elementary to high school and taught English and World Geography and Culture to these students. • Facilitated workshops for teachers on how to do parenting schools and how to use non-formal educational techniques in the classroom. • Manage and direct weekly television program addressing social and

• Designed a free summer school learning program for 180 students from elementary to high school and taught English and World Geography and Culture to these students.• Facilitated workshops for teachers on how to do parenting schools and how to use non-formal educational techniques in the classroom.• Manage and direct weekly television program addressing social and health topics.• Coordinated with local Women’s Emergency Center to advocate for gender equity in Peru, as well as served on their executive board of the Inter-institutional Committee for the elimination of family and sexual violence for the province of Yungay.• Designed and executed cultural night activities with the local municipal government which involved movie, and art and crafts nights. • Formed two after school Ultimate Frisbee teams in two different schools.

Work with Peace Corps Peru:

• Served as the Vice President of the Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Committee and helped in the training of Peace Corps volunteer and staff, as well as the development of a gender equality manual, and monthly newsletter. • Served on the Regional Executive Team which programmed activities for the volunteers in the region of Ancash. • Served as a Diversity Task Force Ally in doing so I provided support to volunteers regarding obstacles they may face in their communities and strategies on how to surpass them.
