HeolThe humanoïd robot Heol is an OpenSource project. The aim is to build a team to compete in the Robocup, the famous robot soccer competition and to serve as an educational support for children to learn programming, CAD design and 3D printing at school. The robot can also function as a companion to hospitalized children, aiming to make them smile and aid against feelings of isolation.

I am the designer of team, creating the head and the outer shell of the body in collaboration with mechanics and computer engineers and give Heol his identity.

Armadillo Project exposed at the Milan furniture fair 2014.

Armadillo aims to create a reassuring environment for a person waiting to be rescued after a disaster. It is a survival backpack which resembles a shell and includes first aid equipment, a GPS and a light, to be visible to emergency services and a secure storage compart-ment. In the event of a disaster, the user grabs the bag from his house and leaves it in order to look for a safer place. He/she then opens the shell, transforming the back-pack into a cocoon in which he/she can sit. Much like the Tuaregs, a belt is used to keep the user in a seated position for an extended duration of time. The comfortable seat protects the user’s legs from the hard floor. A blanket is made out of Gore-tex® which allows the user to stay warm and dry, while keeping the sweat from condensing. Parts of the backpack and blanket are reflective to be easily seen by rescuers.

BulbeThis project won the third prize of the Sourcing & Creation contest 2013 edition.

Small appliances for the brand Essentiel B.

Bulbe was created from the observation that 75% of students admit to be in constant need of underwear. The reason? The lack of access to washing-machines available at home or in laundromats and the difficulty of washing clothes in the sink, an extremely time-consuming and laborious task. I thought about an alternative halfway between washing clothes by hand and with a washing-machine by designing an object that fits into the bathroom and that will be compact and transportable. Bulb can wash the equivalent of 1,5 kg of laundry quickly and economically.

IpnoHow to reduce noise-related discomfort ?Ipno is a product that allows you to sleep in a noisy environment.

The loudspeaker broadcasts white noise: a sound that includes all sound frequen-cies. This sound heard when lying down, has hypnotic properties that are beneficial to the quality of sleep: it allows the brain to disconnect external noise, while soo-thing the heart rate and helping you to relax. At the same time the microphones at the back capture the surrounding noise.Digital Signal Processor combines the signal received by the microphones with the white noise to cancel the environmental sounds: the DSP’s ability to select which sounds are harmful (all except white noise), reverse the frequency and transfers it to the membrane of the loudspeaker. Both frequencies, noise and inversed frequency, are in antiphase. The results is not a complete cancellation of sound but a signifi-cant reduction of the volume.

White noise

At bedtime, the user turns the device by turning the ad-justing ring and selects the volume. After one hour, the unit automatically turns off.

The use of electronic devices such as screens are banned before bedtime: they affect the quality of sleep. This is why the object is very simple to use and contains no unnecessary function.

TECHNOLOGY

Electrical circuit capable of scanning a frequency range from 20 to 20 000 Hertz (ability of the ear).

Amplifier circuit: amplifies the signals, including those in phase opposition, before transmitting it to the membranne the speaker.

The Digital Signal Processor fre-quency crosses the white noise with the signal received by the mi-crophone to cancel out ambient noise.

Rechargeable via USB cable.

PurepleScenario : epidemic outbreak.Implementing cold plasma technology to sanitize hands more accessibly in airports ?

About 80% of infectious diseases are transmitted by touch. Pureple is a hand purifying station designed for airports to use everyday and during an outbreak of contagious diseases, using cold plasma technology to kill bacterias on the users hands. This will minimize the chance of diseases spreading across the borders. Pureple makes hand sanitizing accessible for eve-ryone traveling through an airport, without the use of water.

We touche everything with our hands. Keeping them clean is one of the best ways to pre-vent the spread of germs. Every year we use a lot of time, resources and money on curing diseases. By preventing we can, in the long run, save a lot of lives.By treating your skin with cold plasma, pathogens are killed without causing damage to the healthy cells.

The Vyf concept wireless speaker is a personal project in collaboration with fellow EDNA student, Adriaan Broodryk. Today, almost all electronic products are made from plastic or metal and for this reason we tried to imagine how we could bring new life to a personal electric device by utilising different and/or unconventional materials. A portable wireless speaker seemed like the ideal product as it is something frequently used and also adds value to the experience of listening to music.

Vyf

When synced with a music player (computer, smartphone...etc), the device needs to be switched on. for this you simply need to turn the device to one of its sides. To switch off you do the same. The Vyf uses an accelerometer to calculate its orientation. This makes this process an intuitive and tactile experience which requires no buttons or touch pads.

Currently the project is just a concept. The next step would be to experiment with various materials and manufacturing techniques to understand how we can alternatively produce a consumer electronic device.

Braun MeetgrinderDesign a product using formal codes from the brand Braun’s household appliances.

Our meatgrinder differs from existing products with its compact, sleek and geometrical shape, like the Braun products by Dieter Rams.We made a scale model. We provided two speeds to chop the meat and a reverse one to loosen up the pieces that remain stuck. It is electric and the AC outlet is stored in the lower part.
