Africa’s fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market offers vast

potential for local cleaning product and detergent manufacturers.

International producers of cleaning products, detergents and

chemical products form part of one of the most profitable industries

worldwide. A select few of these producers maintain a monopoly on

a massive multi-billion dollar industry. Names such as BASF,

Unilever, Dow Chemicals and Shell Chemicals come to mind.

Soap and detergent players need to turn their eye towards Africa and

its emerging markets; else they are going to miss the mark when it

comes to tapping into Africa’s growing FMCG) market.

Emerging markets have been a prominent theme for some time in

soap and detergent markets. For instance Colgate-Palmolive
