Please continue to allow your child to walk from the Multi-Purpose Room to the classroom with his/her teachers and peers. This is very helpful in developing a child’s independence and self-confidence.

Perfect Attendance Awards! Family Meetings are held

once a month on a given Tuesday. It is a time for us to share important information with you and also to recognize the children’s achievements, including perfect attendance for the month. Children receiving a monthly attendance

award will be called to the stage and publicly recognized for this great accomplishment.

We encourage children

to set high goals and try

to achieve perfect

attendance and

punctuality for the entire

school year.

Children who reach this

outstanding goal will

receive a very special

award at the End-of-

Year Ceremony held in

June.

Please make every effort to ensure that your child is in school every day. We are committed to giving your children the best education possible, but this requires consistent attendance to ensure desired student progress.

Daily Attendance If your child is sick and

unable to come to school, please call the Charter School Office as soon as possible at 323-780-2961 to notify the Charter Secretary, Graciela Ramos, of the absence. Be aware that if

no call is received, Graciela will call you at home or work to confirm the absence. Please send a written excuse with your child upon his or her return to class. Thank you for your cooperation.

California English Language Development Test

What is the California

English Language

Development Test?

State law (Education

Code sections 313,

60810, and 60812)

requires schools to

administer a state test to

students whose home

language is not English.

This test is called the

California English

Language Development

Test (CELDT).

The purpose of this test

is to identify students

who are English Learners.

¿En qué consiste la prueba de evaluación del desarrollo de la lengua inglesa del estado de California? La legislación estatal exige a todos los distritos escolares de enseñanza pública de California a evaluar a todos los estudiantes cuya lengua materna no sea el Ingles por medio de una prueba del ámbito estatal. Dicha prueba se conoce como la Prueba de Evaluación del Desarrollo de la Lengua Inglesa del Estado de California (California English Language Development Test, o prueba CELDT).

An English Learner is a

student whose primary

home language is

something other than

English, and who is not

yet proficient in English.

Who must take the

CELDT?

child’s home language

Home Language Survey,

which was completed with

your application for

admission.

What does the CELDT

cover?

The CELDT covers

listening and speaking

skills for kindergarten-

aged students. Test

results are used to identify

English Learners who

need to develop their

speaking and listening

skills in English.

This state test will be

administered by

PUENTE instructors

during class hours to all

appropriate children

beginning this week.

La finalidad de esta prueba es detectar a los estudiantes del Kínder que estén aprendiendo el Inglés. Se considera que un estudiante esta aprendiendo el Ingles cuando su lengua materna no es esta y todavía no ha adquirido un dominio pleno de la misma. ¿Quiénes deben presentar la prueba CELDT? Deben presentar la prueba todos los estudiantes cuya lengua materna no sea el Inglés y se hayan matriculado en un centro de enseñanza pública Californiense por

primera vez. Esta información es identificada por medio de la encuesta de lenguaje del hogar que completaron en la aplicación de la matrícula.

¿Que evalúa la prueba CELDT? Al nivel de Kínder, la prueba CELDT evalúa destrezas de comprensión verbal y de expresión oral. La prueba CELDT se corresponde con los estándares académicos estatales para el desarrollo del inglés.

Este examen será administrado por los maestros esta semana durante la clase solo los niños que aplican.

This week, the children will learn about germs. They will discover that good hygiene habits can help prevent the spread of germs and keep them healthy.

Teaching children how to keep their hands clean can help ensure that the only thing they bring back

from school is their homework! Most germs are spread when someone sneezes or coughs. Have your child wash his/her hands after coughing and sneezing, after using the bathroom, visiting a sick person, and, when handling

money to keep from spreading germs. Remind your child to use tissues to contain sneezes and sniffles. Teach him/her to toss soiled tissues in the trash and to wash his/her hands again.

Semana de Higiene y Salud

Esta semana los niños aprenderán sobre los microbios. Descubrirán que los buenos hábitos y la higiene pueden ayudar a prevenir la propagación de microbios y a mantener los niños sanos. Al enseñarles a los niños a mantener sus manos limpias puede contribuir a que lo único que traigan de regreso de la escuela sea su tarea!

La propagación de la mayoría de los microbios sucede cuando alguien estornuda o tose. Haga que los niños se laven las manos después de toser, manejar dinero, y después de ir al baño o de visitar a un enfermo.

Recuerde a los niños utilizar "Kleenex". Enséñelos a tirar el Kleenex usado en la basura y luego, lavarse las manos otra vez.
