Aloha,

My name is Dario Rinaldi, and if we haven’t met already, I am the new deacon at the parish. I am a Transitional Deacon on the road to priesthood and am spending a year here at Resurrection of the Lord as part of my hands-on training for ministry.

While I was born in Eugene, Oregon, I have been living in Hawaii since I was seven years old. I grew up on Maui, where I attended St. Joseph Church with my parents Steve and Laurie and younger brother Victor. I also attended the parish school, which was staffed at the time by the same Dominican Sisters that are here now at Resurrection of the Lord. I later attended St. Anthony High School on Maui, where I discerned the call of God to enter seminary. I entered after my high school graduation in 2011, returning to Oregon for four years of College seminary at Mount Angel before entering St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California. After a total of eight years in seminary, I was ordained a Deacon on July 5th, 2019.

Now, as I move forward towards a fully ministerial life, Bishop Larry has assigned me here as a part of this parish community, so that I can gain some experience that cannot be learned in a classroom. I will be assigned here for a full year, learning about parish life and experiencing the real Church. I’ve only been here for a month but have already gained so much and truly feel at home here. I look forward to this year and all it has in store.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of ROL,

I really enjoy seeing our new pastoral center being used, especially in the eve-nings. Almost every night of the week there are different groups using our meeting rooms, kitchen, and office. The Diocesan Stewardship Conference in February, that you’ll read about in this month’s issue of RISEN, was also a great opportunity for others to experience our ROL hospitality. We really want people to feel welcomed and loved on our campus!

This coming Easter season, we’re going to promote evangelization with a pro-gram called, “Who’s Your One?” I’ll invite you to think about one person in your life who you want to win (or win back) for Christ. It can be someone who no lon-ger practices their Catholic faith or someone who doesn’t have a church home.

During the 50 days of Easter, I’ll ask you to name that person in your life and pray for them in a very inten-tional way. We’ll also study why it’s so important to share our faith and how to do it. All of this will lead up to an invitation to your “one” this summer, starting with Pentecost. Most importantly, we’ll do this together and pray for each other too.

So let’s use this coming Lent and Holy Week as an opportunity to first renew ourselves and our own faith in Jesus. Only when we are grounded in the Lord’s love for us, a love that showed itself even unto death on a cross, can we be the credible and effective witnesses that Jesus calls us to be.

ROL Hosts Diocesan Stewardship Day

On Saturday, February 8, ROL hosted over 200 participants at the annual Diocesan Stewardship Conference, and we were well represented! Our Men’s Group set up tables and chairs, our hospitality ministers were stationed around the campus to greet guests as they arrived, our Catholic Women staffed the kitchen, our liturgy team provided a beautiful Mass celebrated by Bishop Silva, and Fr. William led one of the breakout sessions.

This year’s keynote speaker was Dr. Jo Ann Paradise, a long-time educator, consultant, and retreat director from the Diocese of Pittsburg. Her topic, “Love’s Movement Is Always Outward,” addressed the theological foundation of stewardship within family life. Rita DeKlyen, from Our Sunday Visitor, provided an overview of their resources to promote stewardship, evangelization, and engagement in the parish, many of which we use here at ROL. Keola Kalani, from St. Elizabeth, Aiea, gave a breakout session geared toward young adults and how to encourage them to think about their lives in terms of stewardship.

In his presentation, Fr. William had a chance to share some of our accomplishments at ROL, such as our successful capital campaign and the building of our new pastoral center. He noted the growth in his understanding of stewardship and our parish emphasis on tithing. Father William believes that tithing is best understood as a spiritual practice that helps us to grow in holiness.

Many attendees commented on our beautiful pastoral center and the hospitality of our parishioners. It was an excellent opportunity to let others see and hear about the good things happening at ROL!

PHASE II: CHURCH NARTHEX REMODELROL started the church narthex remodel project on February 10. A narthex is an antechamber at the entrance of a church, traditionally, the Western entrance, opposite the main altar. Historically, the narthex was not considered part of the church proper and was the space where baptisms took place. The project will expand the seating capacity of the church by approximately 80 seats, renovate the Blessed Sacrament and Marian Shrines, provide a new Confessional, and create some new quiet zones for parents with small children at Mass.

Another important (and expensive) part of the project is the upgrading of our fire alarm system. We were informed a year ago that parts for our current system are no longer available and, we would eventually need to replace the system. We decided to make this part of the remodel project. Additionally, we will be installing LED lights in all of our church fixtures. This will help conserve energy and reduce our utility bills.

For the duration of the project, the Tabernacle has been relocated behind the altar. Out of reverence for the Blessed Sacrament, please remember to genuflect to the Tabernacle when entering/leaving your seat. If you are not able to genuflect, please make a profound bow. Casual conversations before and after Mass should be taken outside on the lanai or parish hall so that the worship area can be available for prayer. Nan, Inc. is the general contractor for the project. The narthex remodel is expected to take approximately two months to complete.
