From the Editor’s Desk
The world has changed a lot. Change for better is the essence
of life. Science & technology, religion and spirituality, trade &
commerce, politics & ethics, amusement & entertainment, art &
literature are changing at a very rapid speed. Education is not an
exception. The revised UGC pay scales for University & college
teachers have changed status & dignity of college teachers. Ph.D
& M.Phil regulations and norms for promotion have increased
the responsibilities of teachers. I am sure that higher education
in India will have drastic changes in the coming decade.
Personality development sessions, Spoken English classes,
remedial courses, computer awareness programmes and campus
interviews have added glamour to the vibrant college atmosphere.
Project works and internships in some courses are exposing our
students to the outside industrial world. Students today are busier
than ever. Quality education is topic of discussion everywhere.
These changes are sensitising all the stake holders. Private
colleges in the country are thinking about NAAC and ISO
accreditations. Some institutes have already introduced academic
audits. Students evaluation of teachers has already been
institutioinalised. All these changes are intended at improving
the quality of education imparted and to make our students
employable and useful to the society.
Our college has not remained as a meek spectator of this
changing scenario. We are an active participant in this process
and are beneficiaries. An orientation course to the freshers in the
beginning of the year familarises the students to the college
infrastructure and facilities available. Bi-annual news letter is a
window through which an outsider can have a glance at the
activities of the college. Saturday C.G.C. sessions have become
the pet hours of our interested students. These sessions train
and prepare students in personality development activities like
G.K., Quiz, Group Discussions. Power point presentations,

Extempore speeches, Debate and English language
efficiency tests. The feedback from the students in
farewell parties in this regard have been highly
encouraging. Their response has motivated us to
experiment innovative things in those sessions in the
coming future.
Regular classes have almost been completed. It is a
matter of pride that more and more teachers are using
ICT enabled teaching methods. As usual, we are
expecting better results and ranks. Our supremacy in
literary and cultural activities has remained undisturbed.
The drama troupe of our college staged two shows of
Kannda play ‘Aagasada Aaseyelli’ in Gulbarga and
Raichur. Around 10 students of our college had the
opportunity of acting with popular stage artists of this
region in the drama ‘Deshpremi Surpur Venkatappa
Nayak’ which was jointly organized by our college and
Ranga Madhyama Ameteur drama troupe. The show was
a grand success and provided major exposure for our
budding artists.
Renovated classrooms, addition of digital library and
modernisation of infrastructure for Music dept have
enriched our institutional environment. Opening of P.G
course in commerce, career oriented programme in
Material Science and starting of chemistry subject in B.Sc
have resulted in providing horizontal & vertical academic
flexibility to existing courses. The only disturbing factor
is appointment regulations & filling up of vacancies
created by retirement of teaching & non teaching staff.
The attitude of Govt in this regard is really discouraging.
The society’s financial burden is increasing as most of
the teachers have retired and are retiring in the near future.
Barring this factor we are on the right track and doing our
best to impart quality education.
The summer heat is on. The spread of diseases like
Jaundice & Cholera are being reported frequently in news
papers. The semester examinations are fast approaching.
Parents and students have to take utmost care about
their health. Being unwell during examinations will have
far reaching effect on the future of students. We take
care of our students. They should also take care of
themselves. A better future is the result of a few sacrifices
at the present. Wishing all our students a grand success
in examinations I extend a warm welcome to our
prospective students.

Air Hostess Training :Frankfinn, world’s No. 1 Air Hostess Training Institute,Belgaum, conducted one hour seminar for the girl studentsof our college on 19-11-2010.
