Standard 5: Assess, provide feedback and report on student learning
Artefact 1 includes a range of assessments that have been carried out throughout my placements and part of assignments completed at university. These documents exhibit my knowledge of informal and formal assessment strategies including diagnostic, formative and summative approaches.
Artefact 1 addresses the following focus area:
5.1 Demonstrate understanding of assessment strategies, including informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative approaches to assess student learning
Formal Diagnostic Assessment – Mathematics Assessment Interview
This is a record sheet that I completed while interviewing a Grade 1 student at my second year placement. This task was part of an assignment at university.
Informal Formative Assessment – Anecdotal Notes
These anecdotal notes were taken when I was working with a small literacy focus group in a Grade Prep classroom on my placement round in third year.
Formal Formative Assessment – Open-Ended Task
This is an open-ended task that was implemented in a mathematics unit planner created as part of an assignment in third year.
Can you help John? – Open Ended Task
John’s iPhone machine tests the quality of each iPhone according to its durability and functionality. At the end of every hour the machine prints a report of decimal fractions. The decimal fraction pairs measure both attributes (durability and functionality). He needs help to determine which measure (decimal fraction) is larger. Can you help John?

This is one page of a written test that was given to Grade 6 students at the end of a mathematics unit that I taught at placement in second year.
