Research Focus:
My research focus is in pediatric neuroimaging, specifically the study of imaging markers that may predict outcomes in epilepsy patients. I am also invested in the scholarly pursuit of teaching methods for non-interpretive skills in radiology, especially quality improvement.

Contributions Not Otherwise Noted: Curricula, non-print materials, QI work
Curricula developed at Children’s National Medical Center
2007 Developed Neuroradiology Rotating Resident and Pediatric Neuroradiology Fellow Curriculum.
2008 Support staff curriculum. Quarterly educational sessions with schedulers, nurse, and
technologists to raise awareness of patient safety issues that affect their work areas.
2007-2013 Pediatric Rotator Introduction to CNMC Neuroradiology call. This program was first a case collection, then an online
module, now an online course and under review by MedEd Portal. Planning to implement at BMC using a radiology curriculum management software.
2012-Present CNMC CHEX module “Radiation Exposure in Children”. This module was develop to educate employees at CNMC
about radiation exposure in children. The modules are mandatory for all medical specialty trainees and radiology staff on a yearly basis.
Curricula developed at Boston University Medical Center
07/2013 Quality Improvement for Radiology Residents. Implemented July 2013, designed for radiology residents, to
achieve ACGME Radiology Milestones in “Systems-Based Practice 1: Quality Improvement”. Length is 9 months. Three lectures and a mentored QI activity.

07/2013 Pediatric Neuroimaging Weekly Conference. Implemented in July 2013, designed for radiology and
pediatric neurology residents/fellows. Weekly 20-minute lectures covering pediatric neuroradiology topics.
5/2013 Radiology Economics. Implemented May 2013, to achieve ACGMR Radiology
Milestones in “Systems-Based Practice 2: Health Care Economics”. Four lectures and a yearly web-based test, test scores ranked by resident PGY.
09/2014 BMC Faculty QI Bootcamp. Training BMC faculty in Scientific Quality Improvement Method so they can implement trainee curricula in their specialty programs. In collaboration with James Moses, BMC Director of Quality & Patient Safety.
10/2014 BMC Pediatric Neurology “Case of the month”. Monthly email program to prepare pediatric neurologists for passing the neuroimaging section of the ABPN board exam.
Quality Improvement projects Children’s National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
2011 Completed: Nursing technique for contrast injection. Standardized
contrast injection technique to reduce contrast extravasations. 2013 Completed: MRI for shunted children. Implemented a fast MRI protocol
for shunt evaluation I children to reduce radiation exposure in this population.
2012-14 Completed: Cervical spine trauma- Pediatric Imaging Algorithm. Multidisciplinary project. Implemented an evidence-based algorithm to assure that cervical CT is only performed in children who fulfill imaging criteria.
Quality Improvement projects Boston University Medical Center, Boston, MA
2013-14 Completed: Reaching Radiologists. Facilitated how medicine residents
contact radiology with questions. 2013-14 Ongoing: Medical Student Neuroradiology PACS Simulation.
Established a neuroradiology curriculum for medical students on a simulated PACS server.
2013-14 Ongoing: Reducing MRI callbacks. Developed a metric for tracking patients called back for MRI. Analyzed reasons for callbacks. Implementing changes, testing for success.
2014 Completed: Reducing Voice Recognition Induced Report Errors. Developed techniques to reduce errors caused by voice recognition in my finalized reports.
2014 Completed: Lean Radiology: Is the film-based teaching file a waste? Digitized a film-based pediatric teaching file and measured cost (financial, time, equipment) versus benefits (teaching value, ability to publish, ability to access).
2014 Completed: LifeImage Manual. 2014 Ongoing: WSSS- What Radiologists Can Do. Anatomical landmarks to
determine radiological spine levels for surgery. 2014 Completed: Contrast Reaction Simulation. Creating scenarios to
prepare radiologists in the management of contrast reactions in radiology.
