Please mark your calendar for NAFSCE's next webinar on October 24 , which will focus on culturally- responsive family engagement, particularly as it pertains to high-need Latino families. If you thought test scores were keeping parents up at night, you'll find the results of a recent survey of parents interesting. We've also highlighted an innovative program that transcends school boundaries to effect community-wide change, and some interesting job opportunities for family engagement professionals. This webinar will introduce participants to the AbriendoPuertas/Opening Doors program, an evidence-based parenting, leadership and advocacytraining program for parents of children ages 0 to 5. Participants will learn how aculturally responsive parent leadership-training program promotes more confident andknowledgeable parenting and increased advocacy on behalf of children and families.

Our Presenters:Sandra Gutierrez is the Founder and National Director ofAbriendo Puertas / Opening Doors. Prior to her work with Abriendo Puertas / Opening Doors, Ms.Gutierrez developed a series of training programs to supportchildren and families involved in the child welfare system forParents Action for Children. Her multi-faceted career hasincluded founding the first service organization to assistCentral American Refugees, developing health educationprograms for the United Farm Workers of America and leading

campaigns to promote the benefits of preschool to the Latino community. In March 2014,Ms. Gutierrez was named by the White House as a Cesar E. Chavez Champion of Change,and in February 2015 she received the James Irvine Foundation Leadership Award.

Hanseul Kang became DC's state superintendent ofeducation in March 2015. She previously served as chief ofstaff for the state of Tennessee's Department of Education.Prior to joining Tennessee's education department, Kangworked for Teach For America, where she was a managingdirector of program for the organization's regional office inthe District. She led a team of program directors supporting

middle and high school teachers in schools across the District and Prince George'sCounty. She is a member of Chiefs for Change and serves on the Governing Board of thePartnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).
