Phanindra Sama or ‘Phani’ is co-founder and CEO of redBus.in, India’s largest bus ticketing company. He is the CEO of the Bangalore-based Pilani Soft Labs Pvt Ltd, a company that was set up by three

friends who studied in BITS, Pilani. He was chosen as a Global Shaper 2011 for the World Economic Forum. He was also awarded Entrepreneur of the Year award under IT, ITES category by ET NOW

and the BITSAA 30 under-30 award. He is also selected as a high-impact Endeavor Entrepreneur and TiE Entrepreneur.redBus was amongst Forbes top five startups to watch in 2010 and was ranked first

amongst the fastest growing companies in India in a survey done by All World Network. It was awarded India’s best Internet start-up, 2010, by IMAI The Idea of Redbus has arrived from the problem he

faced for going to his native place for diwali celebration from Bangalore. The idea emerged has a solution to a social problem. The problem of rushing to bus stands, travel agencies, last minute schedule of

holidays for corporate companies, No ticket reservation system,failure of providing buses to the customers who rush last time, unavailable List of travel agencies and their office address had answered the

solution of Redbus(online booking of bus tickets over the internet) from the idea box of one of the founders.

To tell about Redbus, This is first ever online booking bus ticketing company in India.

The strong Market Research which involved even Bus Operators, Consumers, Venture Capitalists and discussing their idea with them which got favorable response from different kinds of working people.

This made them prepare a code( for the software),an elaborate B-Plan and gone for search of mentors to give life to the idea. TiE-Indus Entrepreneurs, Bangalore chapter breathe life in their idea. They

started working on Redbus. Though they have got few ups and downs, struggled for changing the mindset of people, things settled in place within few months. It provided one platform for the bus agencies

and the people to book tickets even at the last time showing available seats instead of travel agency selection.So, that people can find agencies,bus type and convenient timings to travel with. 10,000 travel

agents use seat seller, an inventory distribution platform for agents to sell bus tickets.

They not only provided through PC, but also moved beyond providing value over the internet by reaching out customers using all media like phone,Home delivery,Physical outlets and through SMS which is

feasible for the customers. The word-of-mouth is the only marketing strategy they used to publicize Redbus and this has been working out for their fair competent work, Learning from mistakes. taking

seriously the feedback of the customers to rectify the mistakes built strong bonding between customers and companies.

Today, Redbus has 2 crore+ users, 30,000+ outlets,4500+ routes and 1200 bus operators belonging to 24 states apart from road transport corporations of 5 states,16000 daily uses. Not only this, they assure

for safe transaction by using Secure Socket Layer data encryption. They even have 8 call centres to support. This fair work for customer satisfaction made customers feel safe,secure and happy journey

whenever they want to.

They crossed 10 million(1 crore) mark in no.of tickets sold in July 2012 and sold of 12 million tickets a year.It has $200 million Gross Merchandise Value where it has 50 Lakh of GMV in first year, 5

crore in second year and 30 crore in third year and has 65% of market share when the company last publicly disclosed the figure. Redbus owned by ibibo for 790 crores.Though they have competitors like

Bookbusnow.com, matus, abhibus, seatsselect.in, simplybus, igoezy.com Redbus stoods first in the priority place from the side of customers and also in the market. The reason for this is just that none of the

other companies have the convenience or bandwidth of redbus offerings that combine consumers,operators & Travel agents.The strong Market Research on the idea, Strong Technical Background that can be

used for the idea implementation, innovative Business Plan, Mentors, Aiming for the customer satisfaction, update of the work process and above all the First ever Idea to implement in India made Redbus a
