The Board includes key service areas working in the neighbourhood including representatives from the Primary Health Care Trust, Greater Manchester Police, Environmental, Regeneration and Children and Young People’s services. Introduction

Stockport Homes manages approximately 654 properties comprising of six bungalows, 237 seven flats, 342 houses, 22 maisonettes and 47 studio flats. In addition Stockport Homes manages a number of garage units, commercial properties, a play area at Bridgehall and a number of landscaped areas within the neighbourhood.

Neighbourhood Activity 2010-2011

A range of projects have been delivered in the neighbourhood over the last 12 months. This has included physical improvements to properties and within the neighbourhood, in addition to a programme of activities and events throughout the year. Regular updates have been made to customers through the Neighbourhood Newsletters, and this will continue throughout this year.

The following highlights the key areas of activity over the last 12 months in the area:

• A programme of community clean up and estate walkabouts across Adswood and Bridgehall with partners and residents

• A range of children and young people projects have taken place including an under 11s World Cup football competition and a mini Olympics during the summer at Adder Park, Adswood

• Improvement works carried out at Taporley Close, to install new fencing and communal doors

• New signage completed at Adswood Road Flats

• The Adswood and Bridgehall Community fun day took place during July involving all members of the community

• Landscaping works have been carried out to the corner of Parsonage Way and Priory Road

• Environmental works have been completed across Adswood and Bridgehall in partnership with Stockport Environmental Services and Groundwork to customers’ gardens and identified grot spots.

• Customers have access to funding through Stockport Homes’ Community Fund for a range of projects and activities including Bridgehall Golden Circle over 60s to support trips out, Junior Rangers have carried out environmental clean ups including litter picks and have been on two trips to reward all their hard work and Bridgehall and Adswood 13th Scouts group have purchased tents and equipment for young people on expeditions

• Approval has been received for the demolition of a garage site to the rear of Bridgehall shops, Cuddington Crescent and works are due to start in 2011.

Neighbourhood and Customer Profile

The neighbourhood is located within Davenport and Cale Green ward and Cheadle Area Committee. The population is 14,225 at 2001, the majority of residents are aged 30-59 and the area has a higher than Borough average of residents aged under 16, 24.3% in comparison to the Borough average of 20.3%. Conversely the residents aged 60 and over are lower than the Borough average. Within the area the majority of Stockport Homes’ customers are aged 40-54 and a similar percentage of customers are aged over 60 (33.86%).

Bridgehall is approximately one mile south west of Stockport Town Centre. The estate is bounded to the north, east and south by railway lines, access to the estate is via two roads, Adswood Road and Bird Hall Lane. The area is predominately residential, although adjacent land uses include Europa Trading Estate and Adswood Industrial Estate. There is one parade of shops within the estate, providing local convenience shops and a range of community and local authority services. The properties are mainly family accommodation, in addition to a number of flats. There is a formal play area within the estate for play and ball games, in addition to a large underused grassed area to the north of the estate off Handley Close. There is one primary school

within the estate, Bridgehall Primary School, which is located to the rear of the Bridgehall Community building and Stockport Homes’ West Area Housing office.

Adswood is mainly a residential area and lies to the north west of Gardners Lane, there are a range of local shops and services off the main road. The nearest park is Adder Park, a small local open space with facilities for ball games and a play area. There are two local primary schools within the neighbourhood, but no secondary school. In addition there is a youth club and community building with access to Sure Start and the local Neighbourhood Management Team.

Stockport Homes’ customers are involved in many ways to ensure that all customers have the chance to get involved and influence the decisions and services received that affect their home and neighbourhood. The neighbourhood does not have a formal Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, although work is underway to develop a group within the neighbourhood.
