Introduction
This Neighbourhood Action Plan (NAP) has been developed for North Reddish by Stockport Homes in partnership with customers, services and organisations working and living in the neighbourhood. The Neighbourhood is located within Stockport Homes’ West Area Housing Team, and managed by one Neighbourhood Housing Officer (NHO), contact details are shown below.
The NAP covers two distinctive estates, Poets Corner and Somerford Road / Thornley Lane South in Reddish with a number of small clusters of housing including property around Somers Road and Betley Road, Reddish. Stockport Homes manages 681 properties in the Reddish area, comprising of 175 flats, 485 houses, five maisonettes and 16 studios, in addition to a number of garages and landscaped areas within the neighbourhood.
NAPs are developed in order to identify the key issues in a neighbourhood and to develop actions to address these issues. NAPs can cover a range of social, economic and environmental issues, which includes housing, the environment, community safety, leisure and access to services and facilities. The NAPs are influenced by a range of existing polices, strategies and action plans at national, regional and local levels. The information used to develop the plan links to Stockport Council’s strategic plans and supports Place and People strategic objectives. The NAP has been developed by analysing data about the area, looking at current and developing policies and plans in the area, results of consultation with customers and talking to other partners and services about their plans for their areas.

Neighbourhood and Customer Profile
The NAP covers Reddish North ward and one Area Committee, Heaton and Reddish. North Reddish lies to the northern part of the Borough, and forms the boundaries for Stockport with Manchester and Tameside. The properties managed by Stockport Homes are located within primary residential areas, although there are a number of pockets of industrial uses. There is one primary housing area, Poets Corner which is located east of the B6167, a main route to the A57 and M60 motorway. In addition to dispersed properties located around Betley Road. Reddish is served by a railway station on the Manchester to Sheffield line with a direct rail link into Manchester City Centre and the Peak District.
The neighbourhood contains one of the eight district centres across the Borough. Reddish Centre provides a range of shops, services and a local supermarket focused around the Houldsworth Square, at the junction of B5169/B6167. The centre is overlooked by Houldsworth Mill, recently converted to provide new homes, business enterprises and a gym. Within the area there is also a number of small parades of shops providing a range of services.
The neighbourhood benefits from a range of formal and informal play activities including North Reddish Park, with football pitches, play area and bowling facilities. In addition to Houldsworth Golf Centre and Reddish Country Park, which provides a green corridor linking the town centre with Denton in Tameside at the north and Woodley to the west. It has walks, cycle paths and bridleways that link with the Goyt Etherow, Saddleworth and Longendale trails as well as long distance routes such as the Midshires Way and Trans Pennine Trail. Reddish Vale Country Park was opened in 1985. The Visitor Centre is sited on a former industrial complex, including a calico printing works supplied with water from the river via mill ponds and reservoirs. Most of the race has been filled in, but a short length carries Denton Brook down to the river. Denton Brook (and a small tributary) marks the traditional boundary between Reddish and Denton. Within the park Reddish Vale Farm offers riding stables plus a variety of farmyard animals, including horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, a llama, rabbits, guinea pigs, ducks and chickens.
The majority of Stockport Homes’ customers are aged 45-54 plus (32%) and there is a low percentage of customers aged 16-24 (2.4%). Stockport Homes’ customers are involved in many ways to ensure that all customers have the chance to get involved and influence the decisions and services received that affect their home and neighbourhood. In addition to a range of ways customers can get involved, there are two active groups including Poets Corner and Spa Close Tenants’ and Residents’ Association.
