BOOK CLUB

“Rainy days and Monday’s always get

me down”. Well rainy Friday’s and pow-er outages tried on Friday, but it didn‘t work. I was a little disappointed but my Pollyanna attitude pulled me up and I realized I hadn’t given much infor-mation about when and where in ad-vance of our first meeting. So for those that read “The Nightingale”. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Chapter Two of Book Club will be on No-vember 11th, Friday at 10:00 A. M. at my home, 1039 Stonybrook Drive.

I have chosen another book set during WWII, but this time it takes place in Lon-don. The title is “Vintage Affair” by Isa-bel Wolff. It’s the story about a young woman opening a vintage clothing shop and her connection with her couture clothes and her dealings with her past. I hope you enjoy this book.

If you plan to attend Book Club, please let me know by email, [email protected] or telephone 255-1421 so I know how ma will attend.

Until then, happy reading.

Our speaker for November will be Major General Kathy Thomas, retired

from the U.S. Air Force.

General Thomas was commissioned in 1972 after completing Officer Train-

ing. She was one of the last Woman Squad Commanders in Strategic Air

Command. She helped write the plan to completely integrate woman in

the Air Force.

The General transferred to the Reserves in 1978 as an intelligence officer.

She has served as an interrogator, escape and evasion instructor, and

Latin American specialist, serving extended tours of duty with the U. S.

Southern Command.

The General was recognized for her pivotal role in the nation’s 9/11 response, leading the mobilization of

more than 6,000 Reserve component officers and enlisted personnel across all services for NORAD’s and

USSPACECOM’s mission support to Operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom.

A Vietnam veteran, Thomas participated in the rescue of the merchant ship SS Mayaguez and the evacua-

tion of Phnom Penh and Saigon. She has expanded professional opportunities for women throughout her

military and civilian careers through extensive mentoring and community service.

We are truly fortunate to have such an outstanding veteran/woman come to join us this November.

Hope to see you at Tarla.
